INFP here... Meaning is very important to me. You must understand that all ideas have been thought of but it's your spin on them. It's all about your unique fingerprint on it. There's another part of meaning for me is finding the connection to everything. My mind branches out like a tree. Meaning is understanding that not everything is meaningless. It's to know how everything fits and how they work together.

@Batfemme639
@Batfemme639 Год назад
Fellow INFP: I agree with most of what you say, but meaning is created, not revealed. From the standpoint of revelation (not in a religious sense, but in the sense of unearthing meaning to reveal it), everything is ultimately meaningless. You could say that this is my meaning and yours is different, but I disagree. We humans make meaning because we are meaning-making organisms, because meaning structures our lives and gives us direction. I don't think there's much more to it. Meaning emerges in the space between you and I, or between you and whatever or whomever. Interestingly (and here's where I go full-tilt INFP) although its origins are mundane, the subjective experience of this process is anything but mundane.
@FalconWindblader
@FalconWindblader Год назад
@@Batfemme639 Fellow INFP here too. I agree wholeheartedly on the creating meaning part. Too many of us, INFP or not, do not realize that in the process of seeking to reveal the meaning of things, at least half of the time we're going through a journey of creating said meanings, & at the end of that journey, we would either 'find' said meanings, or lack thereof. The 'your meaning is different from my meaning' still applies though, as people can often come to different conclusions to the exact same thing after all. Though most of everything is ultimately meaningless, we do indeed create different meanings for them.
@Batfemme639
@Batfemme639 Год назад
@@FalconWindblader Certainly people come to different conclusions and create different meanings about the same things. However, and I know I seem to contradict myself, is meaning ever immanent in a thing? Or is immanence merely an artifact of the human brain? Most of that time I would argue that immanence is an illusion. However, what about numbers? In this case I am not so sure. This question seems truly imponderable on its face since we are, in a sense, trapped within our own minds. I suspect that there's a workaround, however.

True. As an ISTP I don't like anyone who makes excessive effort to get to know me. Sometimes it makes me think you have an ulterior motive. Constantly texting, constantly making plans to meet up and do things, constant bombardment of your day! It's sweet when people want to get to know me, but dial it down! Be more mysterious! Let's play hide and seek! I find that more thrilling!

I'm INTP. I found the INFJ, ENFJ and ENFP descriptions most relatable. For me, boredom is not in the inability to do something interesting, but in trying to do something boring. The boredom of having nothing to do for days is nothing in comparison to having to focus on something monotonous and predictable for an hour.

As long as I’m allowed to spend time with my brain on our own I’m never bored. I’m a creative INTP so I can either spend my time exploring ideas or create and feel happy. The one thing that bores me to death is being forced to wait in a way where I can’t relax and daydream. Like at the dentist or doctor’s office where you have to pay attention to your name being called at any moment. I’m the absent minded professor type and I can completely zone out when I’m lost in thought and won’t see or hear anything - but if I have to pay attention to a delayed flight or something like that I am stuck in the mundane, horrible real world with no escape. I feel trapped. I even prefer small talk with strangers (which I normally dislike intensely) to just waiting in a vacuum of nothingness.
@VictoriaForSale

My dominant functions r infp but I can relate. Very much I can relate. I also hate waiting. Time is the essence. Waiting is a waste of time. Not being able to pay my attention on things that r important to me makes me physically and mentally sick if it's for a longer period. My fiance is intp too and he gets bored very fast, I try to figure out what might stimulate his mind enough, he never is bored though when we talk but when I am not with him he kinda struggles finding something to entertain himself. Sadly his working schedule is not allowing him a creative hobby that might balance him out. He enjoyed writing stories for me and he enjoyed immensely to work on a song we made. I wanna find more things that we can create together. I would love to talk about philosophical topics with him but he gets angry at me and I get frustrated. 😕 In the end I just sit there, say nothing besides okay. He is not listening to me anyways if I don't have his opinion. Or he cuts me off and says what I say makes him feel uncomfortable. I am not good in pointing out what I mean by speech, I struggle hard and need some time to get down to the point. I try my best to accept his opinions but I am not even able to explain what I mean when I say something provoking or controversial. So, philosophy is no option. I am glad I can make him watch documentaries about the universe, animals and history with me.

Some of the things I actually find most boring/tedious as an INFP: - Like what you said for INFJs, too many things happening without enough time to process and reflect on them - Small talk, superficial interactions, socializing just for the sake of socializing - Having a rigid schedule or overly structured life - Various chores and practical things - Generic/insipid/bad art, especially long things like books or movies - Having to take in too much concrete mechanical information without enough in the way of either meaning or bigger ideas to keep me engaged Meaning matters, but it’s not all about individuality. Helping someone is meaningful and therefore not boring on the level that a purely mechanical tedious task might be. If helping someone requires doing such a task, then sure, the task will be boring, and we might find it hard to get going just as we would if we were doing it for ourselves. We really have to make the helpfulness or value of what we’re doing salient enough to ourselves to be motivated to do the tedious thing. I do not need everything I do to be ~unique~ or whatever, and it does not bother me to do something someone else could have done. I think this is more a trait of people who are not mature or secure in their individuality, just as intellectually insecure people constantly have to 'prove' how smart they are.
@judael5605
@judael5605 Год назад
IxFP cares alot about how others percieve their intellect and worries too much of it too, they worry alot about looking "dumb" "stupid" "silly". They want to look smart without actually being smart = Te inferior, Ti demon. All 16 types want to be something that they arent. For example, INxJs want to be able to perform, performance perfectionists in everything they do, but they refuse to learn or take care of themselves through tedious "worldy" ways, which ultimately cripples their performance in everything they do = Se inferior, Si demon Another example, IxTPs want to be accepted and useful and meaningful in their circles, tribes, but they constantly over think about it, "do they like me, do they think highly of me, do they appreciate me, am i acceptable into the tribes?" ect, however in order to be accepted and being put in high regards in the tribe is to care about each and everyones' input in "illogical" ways, which the IxTP is extremely unable to do so, because it goes against their Ti hero(single minded mathematical logic). They will not care about what you feel or have to say of ir goes against their personal biased "logic/common sense", they will constantly attack you for being "dumb", "silly", "stupid". So they want to be regarded as moral, loving people, yet they physically cant stand flaws according to their personal logic when others' speak their hearts = Fe inferior, Fi demon. Unlike the IxFPs, the IxTPs cares about being loved and regarded highly by the tribe for somethinf that they are not, but IxFPs cares about looking smart in their tribes, without necessarily being "smart". All the 16 types have the same issues. And all the 16 types will grow well into old age not being healthy about this aspect of their lives. Its very rare being healthy, because it goes against their Ego, their Hero, their Purpose in the first place.

@@judael5605 Uh. Where did this come from, and why didn't you just make your own post instead of replying to mine, to which it is not relevant? If this was set off by the last half-sentence of my post, that was clearly not about IXFPs or MBTI at all, it was about people in general and hardly even related to the main content of my comment. Also some straight-up nonsense in there. "They want to look smart without actually being smart" - No, not generally, and being smart has nothing to do with MBTI type.

@@Multitudes_ Are you actually somehoe offended by this. What i mean by smart is the general definition of "smartness" by the people and by you. Its good that some infps realize they are smart without complying with the societal standards of being "smart". But its very rare, and most infps are not confident and are uhealthy same goes with the rest of the types. So theyd conform and look down upon themselves based on what society tell says, because infps are tribal at core, Si child(tertiary). Based on the response i get from you, an infp, it shows you still havent overcome Te inferior. Unless youre not actually an infp but who knows about that, and its fine either way. @@judael5605 1) lol no, I'm not offended, just calling out nonsense for what it is. 2) "blalant mockery to Carl Jung's definitions of cognitive function stackings" ??? I've done no such thing, but a) cognitive functions =/= intelligence, period; b) even when it comes to the functions, there are different perspectives on how the types use those, and neither yours nor Carl Jung's are the be-all, end-all; we've come a long way in understanding psychology since his time, and different theories have been developed. Think you could probably stand to expand the range of MBTI content you consume. 3) So many faulty assumptions, it's not even worth unpacking them all. I never asked for or needed help understanding where 'INFP dumb' stereotypes come from; they come from false assumptions based on poor understanding of how the types work, pure and simple. A lot of INFPs, and people of every type, do in fact align with the normal societal standards of 'smartness'; this is far from rare and again a separate thing from MBTI type. Goodbye. :)

INFP here, and I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. The older I've gotten the easier it is for me to find meaning behind even some of the mundane aspects of life, which helps keep the boredom at bay. The mind numbing, repetitive, seemingly useless tasks, in everyday life are still difficult for me to do (for example grading papers for my students... 😅 which I'm willing to do because I know they will learn better if they receive feedback for their work) are much easier to do when I remember the purpose behind them. Doing the dishes? It serves my roommates (and future me, though I care a bit less about that). Doing the laundry? I feel better and more comfortable in clean clothes that smell good. Brushing my teeth? My teeth feel more smooth, my gums feel better, I won't have to go to the dentist as often, etc. I'm still working on folding laundry and putting it away.... If there's no purpose, why do the action? Especially if it's repetitive and mundane. And, yes. I have thought about each one of these specifically before... I have remember each of these things before I can convince myself to even start these tasks. If there's a daily life skill that those around me seem to do naturally and seem to expect of others, I'll often sit back and ask "Why?" for a long time. If I can't find a purpose... yeah, it's probably not going to happen. But watching youtube videos that analyze what different types of people think are boring and then stopping to write an essay comment?? Totally worth it 🤣

Yeah, now Love Who phrased it for ISTJ, that would be true - it's the "frivolous things" in life that, I would call it "unnecessary". Yeah, because having Si as dominant, Si is a function can 'sense' inner physical state well. So we apparently prefer not to waste our time, energy and effort running around without knowing the clear result, it will drain and tire us in both mental and physical stamina. So I have to make sure things I do is purposeful, and be useful in the future, has the contingency purpose in long term. Yes, even chilling out, take a rest, or just non-doing, is somehow counted.

Either way, Ni or Ne, intuition can definitely be a "lalaland" that one escapes to. And since it is so self-contained within the person's head, Ni is arguably much more of a private "pocket dimension" (Spirit of the Mountain's point in the top post) than Ne.

Huh u analyzed my reason for boredom and also being annoyed precisely. (infp) I get so annoyed and a bit angry when I find out that something I explained or told is already known to the listener. I wish they just would make clear further explanation and therefore wasting my precious life time is unnecessary. I also kinda feel bored rarely because I have many hobbies that I can switch between as soon as one gets boring. Drawing, reading, writing, crocheting, recording videos, baking, singing. And so on. But since I fell in love with a certain person that happens to be intp I can't enjoy my hobbies as much as I used to because there's no meaning in spending time creating something and thinking about everything if I cannot share with him right at the very moment I do. He makes me feel bored as soon as he's not with me... That means, he is my chosen meaning. I need to write that down for him. His heart will melt.

Conforming to set norms. It just doesn’t work for me. Going to traditional gatherings and having to stick to rules and follow certain A to Bs. I am not sure if I would describe that as boredom. It is more like a situation that drains the life out of a person. When it comes to boredom as such I have noticed that having to spend too much time on the ‘here and now’ makes me restless. I become fidgety and cranky. My mom used to say that she would tell me stories as a kid to make me go to sleep but instead she would fall asleep and I would just wake her up to make her continue narrating it and asking questions. Hitting the pause button doesn’t really work for my brain.

I particularly don't get bored often as an ENFP, not only because I find myself pretty free to do things in my life, but also because I have ADHD. Doing different stuff and creating is the most fun, but thinking about different things is also fun. The problem is when, like you said, I am forced to focus on a pointless, monotonous and uninteresting task

I feel like the INTP description is too specific they don't just seek mental stimulation through academia or research otherwise they wouldn't be stereotyped as liking video games they can find this stimulation in everything from race cars to basketball ,As long as thier are enough mechanics to be played around with and enough new things to be understood INTPs can find the activity interesting.

I've developed my FE over the years. Lots of experience watching people to understand how to I teach with the. I definitely am way healthier than when I couldn't do FE. I dobt want to do FE on the daily, but I can. I decided one day to be fed up with the negative attention from my truth telling, seriosness, and judgemental silence. I decided that I would do whatever it took to get attention off of myself, do I played the social game and now I rock it. I invoked in social siuatoobs my deceased mother, an ENFP , asking myself, What eoukd Mum say? The words came, the banter, the lightness, the kindness, the questions about the other person. I put my truth telling, my profound discoveries in there, but subtely. I decide everyday when I leave my house (Man, I wish I could stay home and read, but I have a family, so being a good mom takes precedence for now) that I will give attention to most whomever I engage with. They come first. (Easy after decades of learning that no one wants to hear my real thoughts). I keep the attention off of me; I get more people data to file away for theories later; I get to offer people some value.

INFJ here, my dad paid a huge sum of money for a course I was not interested in, said that he just wanted me to gain skills, even if I wouldn't end up using it, I declined about 3 times, he persisted and said it was for me, politely and constructively though Now I have a ton of floor plans I need to draw, given to me by an instructor who watches cat videos all day, does not actively teach his students, is vague in his tips and advices, in a facility that is literally unfit for technical drafting because the edges of their tables are crooked and won't allow you to draw consistent straight lines with your t-square, the 10 computers only have 2 fast enough ones that can handle cad software, for more than 10 students mind you, and the plans I'm drawing aren't even consistent, I'm not taught about the content of the drawings and am only told to copy fromthe given template, which is either a low quality photo or the absolutely terrible work of the previous students I have to draw all of these floor plans and for a certificate that "qualifies" me to be a professional drafter, lol as if I can actually pull up to a job interview with that useless certificate and the little knowledge I gained, I feel sorry for wasting my dad's money even though I was against the idea in the first place, but I am not going to waste my time doing something that leads to nothing, I've decided to return his money in time, but for now, I'm done with this course
