The 1990 Buick Reatta Is the Buick Halo Car That Never Was 

I've always wanted one of these. When I was a teenager I coveted this and the Subaru XT.

I had one for 6 years, '89 touchscreen model. it really was a car that tried to do everything and failed miserably at all of it. But I still really liked the car. Nobody had one; nobody knew what it was. It drove fairly nice, i was mostly on terrible country roads, and the modern stiff cars do not smooth it out like that car... mostly did.. haha.. but It got 30 mpg (with the headlights down) and really ate up the freeway miles with ease. I think it would be a fun classic for the car guy (or girl) that loves the rare cars. There are a lot of those types out there, and so this car will still have its niche.

I love the rims. Makes the car look really good. Never seen a set like them. Are they custom?

Ok, this was great. I'm am, admittedly, a huge critic of all American automobiles (my dad worked for GM for 30 years and I was raised in Michigan) and by default dislike all things Buick. That said.....this car is pretty interesting, and almost....cool? I think you both hit the nail on the head with your comments. Great video.

The frustrating thing is that GM had the supercharged 3800 engine that could have absolutely made this car but no.

It was a Halo personal luxury car at its inception. It was hand built. Wonderful car for sure There were about 20K coupes and 2132 convertibles.

It's a shame you didn't get a clip of the 3800's infamous warbly exhaust note. Because it was so common across GM in the '80s and '90s, that was the sound of my childhood, along with the drone of the Iron Duke 4-cylinder that still powers every Grumman mail truck.

Used to own one with the touch screen. Love these, but I agree, who was this car made for? So weird. Love Reattas!

It would’ve helped if you had done some research ahead of time, you could’ve learned who the initial target audience was and had more facts at hand. Of course having a high mileage car, with added fake wood grain and wrong wheels certainly didn’t give you an ideal candidate to make an assessment on. The CD player was not a thousand dollars as you mentioned and the addition of the optional 16 white seats would have given you an extremely comfortable seat with plenty of driving positions. A Well sorted out REATTA is a pleasant driving experience, And it’s obvious the one you had which by the way is or was for sale on eBay certainly isn’t the cream of the crop to test, Having had eight of them, 3 coupes and 5 convertibles I can attest to how comfortable, great cruising cars they are. You may also want to note that they were actually very well spoken of by the automotive press and media at the time, they actually liked them a lot, especially the convertible.

Not a car I was aware of as I live in the UK, but this looks great apart from the Volvo 480 style front overhang.

That 3800 motor!!!!! As much as I dislike that motor there are many of them still running. I did a Crank position sensor on one a few weeks ago lol. Ive actually never seen this car before.
