The 1st ever ArkanSTOL Ozark Backwoods Challenge with Steve Henry 

We flew in to spectate. Every time you ran, you had the crowds attention. The sound that thing makes is amazing.

Huge shout out to Sara and Cathy for all the filming they did on thing plus the time they all spend editing the content so we all could enjoy it. With out those two ladies we may not ever see how Steve Henry and @Wildweststeve is doing. Glad to see the GoPro's getting added along with the audio cables as well. Thank you ladies and Congrats again Steve Henry. Looks like so much fun.

This channel is one of my favorite lockdown discoveries. I'm not an aviation guy but STOL fascinates me. Everyone I now show short takeoffs/landings are wide eyed. I love the over the shoulder and wing camera.

I think we accomplished what we set out to which was to showcase backwoods flying in Arkansas by designing a new type of competition specifically for accomplished and/or very talented STOL pilots. You and the other pilots were super impressive to watch on the course! I think you may need to take that degree of pitch back out of your prop but more importantly, I believe you may need 1-2” additional length on those props! It’ll give you more thrust for a faster and harder pull from a stop!

WIENIES!! I don't know if the Marshfield, Mo. strip is still there. But it was fun. Anyway, why do you think that the Air America Aviators ( that's capital 'A') tested Helios in the Ozarks? Test Pilots Foyd Beard, Mike Mc Dermott, and Larry Monygomery, along with Chief Engineer Bob Kasebier worked out the test runs for proof of concepton the Helio Stallion. You guys had too much fun. It sure was back in the early 1970s. Take care down there!

Steve I've been super curious for a long time - why do you use a modified highlander vs. a SuperSTOL as the base for your competition plane? I'm sure you've got some great reasons and I'd love to find out more.

Wow, your plane and flying are impressive, but that Jayden girl can fly too! Wonder what Cub she flies and how modified it is, as she was only 6-7 tenths of a second behind. If she can already fly with that skill and confidence, what next? Btw I would love to see a Highlander vs. Scrappy contest: two very different approaches to STOL. One a light and nimble (Japanese) featherweight, the other more of an American muscle car of the air.

Hey, thank you for such a great video about ArkanSTOL. I was unable to attend this year, but I'm hoping to get the time off to attend next year. Not sure I'll compete, but I'll at least take a picture or two of those who do! Slightly tangential: Love the trailer. We have a diesel pusher, also, and the dream is to travel with the family and drag the Kitfox along. Might have to look into a good trailer like yours. Any towing issues?

Your 180 deg turns on the ground were amassing. So fast that the ailerons were working enough to lean into the turn.

No precautions taken by anyone for COVID-19 at this event. It's no wonder we still can't see any control of it in the near future. Still looks like a fun event. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Wanted to thank you for your videos, watching your videos is what got me started in backcountry flying and it has been the most enjoyable flying/fun I have ever done (check my videos and you’ll see). Is that the “lighter grade” Oratex on your plane, the 600? I am considering the lighter fabric for my homebuilt.👍👍👍👍

Okay, now ya' did it. Did you know that an HT-295 can pull a hay wagon? It seems that a farmer left his hay wagon in the middle of the strip that he was haying. The Helio landed, but didn't have safety margins for takeoff. Sooooooo... the SC pulled the wagon uphill to get it out of the way DO THAT with your Cirrus!! The statute of limitations has run out, I hope.

Just curious, what's your vfe? I noticed you dump flaps almost immediately after pulling power so Yeehaw 6 must have a pretty rigid flap system!

Do you fly or trailer your plane to these competitions?

I know what you mean about it feeling like it's 100 degrees and 100% humidity. I live in Fort Smith, a little less than an hour from Byrds by car. We have Houston weather in the summer in the River Valley, hot and muggy. I don't love that. It's cooling off some now though. It gets pretty cold in the winter. September is a weird month where it jumps around from super hot to kind of chilly and back to crazy hot. Just be thankful they didn't do this in August. People would be miserable trying to sleep in tents when it's humid and in the 80s most of the night.
