The speakers in the back doors are like that for a reason. The smaller speaker is actually called a “tweeter”. It compensates the bigger speaker’s loud deeper sound frequencies by adding in much higher pitch frequencies. This equates to an overall pitch perfect listening experience :). -Hans from Mercedes-Benz Audio Department(Gutentag!)
Working at the MB audio department, do you personally like the Frontbass setup? I’ve listened to a W205 Burmester and absolutely loved it, but many owners don’t.
Understandable. Once you've driven a Merc V8 everything else does tend to feel 'less'. But the amount of tech is worrying as I've found it to be deeply shonky long term. And replacement parts are very far from cheap. Not to mention the dealers who should at least have the decency to wear a balaclava when they're robbing you.
Doug DeMuro woah did the Doug DeMuro just reply to one of my comments? OMG. We need to start a new word like “Dougamatized” for every car Doug had reviewed.
I don't know much about submarines but if he's referring to a periscope it's still a wonky analogy considering those are only useful at certain depths.
Looks to me like the lot of you forgot that some submarines have clear dome windows in the front that provide a wide angle of view out of the front of the submarine... either that, or you forgot/didn't know there are other kinds of submarines aside from military/naval ones.
keepcoding1 To be fair, these wagons depreciate quite quickly. The Ford GT has been doing nothing but going up in value, so it is cheaper to own long term.
Victor K these cars are appreciating quite a bit. If he spends $10k on maintenance/repairs/whatever in, let's say, 3 years of ownership, that cost will be covered by the amount it appreciates when he goes to sell it. The wagon would cost just as much in insurance, gas, etc, but will depreciate dramatically.
@@vika0194 He won't be daily driving his GT, so maintenance & gas cost won't rack up too high, on top of that he already explained that the insurance on his 2012 E63 is more expensive than on the GT. It is definitely cheaper to own in the long run.
The Doug Score is one of the best ranking systems on Earth. There should be a federal mandate for it to appear on the window sticker right next to the EPA mileage rating :)
Sure, on another planet where this boring, bland station wagon got a 7 for styling and cool factor and a 6 for importance... When it should have been 4, 3 and 3 for each of those lol that's 9 points off right there. People are usually said to be like what they drive, and Doug is about as boring, dorky and bland as it gets given his attraction to this grey boring car driven by mostly lesbians with a heavy foot lol
@@Barely2JZ You coulda left it at not necessarily but you had to throw in your passive aggressive "keep thinking that". I can change what I think with new information, since it og comment was just a wild guess. Your F-Type is a 4 cylinder. Bitch.
GGamerEZ that was my first thought and also the "scales of justice" are probably just SCALES. It's a wagon so it is assumed it's gonna have weight in the back and that will factor into the "eco score" or whatever they choose to call it.
Funny in Germany Estates are way more popular than the limo versions. And E Classes around here are so common even Taxi drivers have the new E Class estate
ghuldorgrey yes but still in other countries they drive Skoda, Renault, Dodge, Ford or some other cheap brand. So E classes are quite the upgrade to them
Hey Doug! Correction to the guys name who built the engine: it’s “Peter Gerlach” . You couldn’t read it easily, because those names are always in the handwriting of this very person, how Peter writes it! Nice channel, though. Frank from Stuttgart, Germany, where they build these cars nearby , and across the city from Porsche
Thank you for these constant bangers Doug!! I watch your videos with my dad who recently lost his eye sight. We love watching your videos together and my dad really enjoys the detailed descriptions you give. He enjoys all the narrations because it helps him follow along with the video. He always asks “did Doug upload a new video?” Since I showed him the video you did on the demon, he’s been hooked. Thank you for these great videos that my dad and I bond over our love of cars!
If your dad is okay with technology then get him a touch phone, preferably an iphone and turn on Voice over in the settings or Talk back on Android and it will be very useful for him. It took me a week or two to get used to it but, now I youtube, surf the web, social media, uber and everything.
@Doug DeMuro Blue light: In germany we do have blue light reflector at roadmarkings, which is positioned and runs through wilderness. this blus light is annoying for animals and drive/scares them away from the road - so I guess this is a extra feature to prevent crashes with animals
Don't be too credulous :D I don't know where you come from (probably US or UK) but we don't just think in everything, the government does also regulate quite everything. Keep that in mind
That's true, i read a lot about Germany and their complex laws and regulations, and those can be a real pain in the ass. But here in my home country, Colombia, we also have many regulations but colombian culture just don't care, everyone just do wherever they want and that is very frustating to many people here, that's why i find Germany interesting, knowing of course all the "quirks and features" of german culture :-)
Ah, you're from Colombia :D Well, that's probably a huge difference to the countries I thought you would live in. So, in contrast to Colombia, Germany surely is an "upgrade", if you know what I mean (dont't want to bash your home country - don't even know much about it^^ ). But in order to study here, this is undoubtedly a good choice. I do even know many South Americans that are studying in Darmstadt, Germany ;-) And, to be honest, you won't notice most of the laws in daily live, I think. That's something you'll witness, if you're "going deeper" :D
As a owner of one I question the "cool" score. It seems "cool" for Doug means "flashy" . In my book, the very fact that most people wouldn't recognize the beast this machine is , now that is the "coolest" factor of all.
As he said, most non-car people don't know why it's cool and may think of it as an average Mercedes (even though almost nothing about a car this expensive and luxurious is "average").
This is more of a personal score Ithink. Everybody has his own coolest car. Doug said in the beginning of his scoreboard that the cool factor is more of his personal score.
I can explain the first aid kit and the blanket, both of them are required in eh EU or at least Germany, that’s why they alsways match those laws, probably easier to manufacture only one version of it... the blanket is also known as space blanket and it’s highly heat reflective, so that a injured person won’t lose body heat quickly and yes they work quite wel
+Anderson Silva Blowing the doors off of any car in the 918 Spyder = expected. Blowing the doors off most every car in a station wagon!? There's no way that's not more fun.... And your hot girlfriend won't ditch you if you loose. Call that a win/win
Simple, his rating split into two parts, weekend and daily use. This scored well in daily use and pretty ok in weekend category hence the result. 918 not meant for daily use. I guess this car has found the loophole in Doug score!
I have been binge watching your videos over the past couple weeks and this thing, of all of the videos I've watch, has become my dream car. Thanks.... lol
Doug is the type of guy who has never driven his grandma around and assumes she would know how to ajust her seat position or its heating. She won't, Dave. That's why you can control those features from your door. And, you should also learn how speakers work, the larger one is the midbass or woofer, designed for voice and midrange frequencies, and the smaller one is the tweeter, made for more treble or higher frequency sounds.
MikefromQueens still interesting that MB is selling it in the USA! That’s really cool because as far as I know not many automakers still sell wagons in the USA
just realized the rear view camera mirrors the output. from the topdown view, the house is on the left of the car, and the bushes are behind the car. directly next to the rear view camera view, it shows the house being on the right of the car with the bushes being centered still. youre seeing the house on the left and right of the car simultaneously. brilliant.
the blanket is a foil gold coated on one silver coated on the other side, to either absorb or reflect sun light / body heat, to prevent hypothermia / overheating. it is mandatory in first aid kits by law in Germany and yes, it is effective... ps: still dont understand why Americans in general dont like station wagons - its simply the the best and most practical type of car. personally i'd go with the Audi RS6 Performance though!
Mylar would be just Polyethyleneterephtalate (PET) a colorless plastic. It is actually coated with a very thin gold layer. The thickness would be in the nm scale so the cost is negligible.
+Robert a periscope cannot be used underwater to view the area around the sub. you will see nothing. it is a black abyss. a periscope sticks out of the water from periscope depth to view above sea water. I'd know. SSN 707 USS Portsmouth, COMSUBRON 11, Point Loma, San Diego, CA
Me: "i want to buy a Lamborghini" GF: "what if we have kids?!" Me: "oh, ill just buy this station wagon that is faster then a Huracan. Why not?" This post was made by rich but has family gang.
!!!!!!DOUG!!!!!!!! PLEASE start doing start up videos, I really REALLY wanna hear all your cars start up and what it sounds like on the outside. Keep doing awesome videos!
just gonna be that guy now:The Blanket is a Silver-/Goldfoil Medical Blanket designed to keep an injured person warm, as its made of very thin metal foil it can be put in very small packaging. The small/medium/large speaker thing might be just marketing, but higher sounds can be reproduced better (at least its easier to achieve) with smaller speakers and so on. again, sorry for being that guyI just like Audio and Medical stuffzthose explanations are kinda shortened
And you may find this blanket in every first aid kit in Europe : www.alibaba.com/product-detail/DW-EB001-emergency-thermal-heated-mylar_60391961444.html?spm=a2700.7735675.2017115.2.fPoyq6&s=p
Hey Doug. The smaller speaker next to the bigger speaker on the door in the back seats are what is called "Tweeters" and for the bigger speaker obviously, the "bass". The tweeters are responsible for the high frequencies and the bass obviously the lower frequencies. Instead of having the tweeters on top of the bass speaker to make one speaker total, hence (2-way speakers) they are separated, therefore creating a MUCH richer sound experience. Just in case you were wondering. That's why the higher scale automakers, even newer cars today, we see more and more speakers being separated and placed all over the cars.. I love your videos man! Keep going!!
The speaker next to the tweeter is a mid range speaker. The bass speaker/subwoofer is usually somewhere in the trunk, under the seats and/or near the bottom of the door panel.
A Rolls Royce Wagon Made all of carbon fiber weighing 1.5 tons with a naturally aspirated V12 Manual with Lotus handling and an under 100 production number
For a wagon that expensive why aren’t the rear windows tinted??? I know Mercedes has a slight blue tint to the windows, but no excuse for a $120,000 wagon to not have the back windows with some factory tint.
I like how you can control the power seats and heating from the driver side. Never know when your mother or grandmother might end up in the front and need some help adjusting the seats
Jos We got one year of the RS6: The C5 RS6 in 2003 (there might be a couple 2002 models, not sure). It was a sedan, not a wagon, with a dud of a transmission.
Survival Blankets are usually a Mylar Film with a reflective coating applied. The coating reflects your body heat back towards you. They keep you surprisingly warm given how thin they are. That is why it can fold up so small. They are also pretty fragile so basically a one time use thing. Me, I keep a sleeping bag in the back of my vehicles during the winter along with some other goodies to survive an over night in sub zero temps.
I am about to pull the trigger on a E450 wagon. It drives so nicely, good handling and has tons of room I need for my two large dogs. Wagons are the best of all worlds. I wish I could afford this AMG wagon but I'll be happy with the E450 :) Great review BTW.
We bought a CPO '18 E400 wagon largely because our older English Mastiff and our young Newfoundland couldn't easily get up into the cargo area of our SUV. Sadly, the Mastiff passed away this fall, but the Newfie is much easier to load into the wagon. I love this car. The AMG version would be better, of course, but I can make do.
Im an intern at daimler R&D and a buddy of mine from design was very excited an showed me these diamond rear lights. from the far i was like so what they look pretty normal but as soon as you see it they look so amazing. it is one of those things that doesnt bother normal people but if you own the car its just really special.
Doug, the ability for the driver to change the temperature and positioning for the passenger, is so one can be a gentleman. I was talking to you at my television when I saw that. lol
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but the "+" in 4Matic+ signifies that the front wheels can be de-coupled for drift mode. Yeah, drift mode, on a wagon!!!
I was a bit disappointed to see that Doug missed this feature... I mean, when it comes to "quirks and features", this might just be one of the coolest quirks/features on the car... need to go somewhere when it's snowing? AWD mode... want to smoke the tires and hoon it? RWD (a.k.a. "Drift") mode. This should be a feature on all AWD cars.
I wasn't a fan of the Wagon until now. It's nice! I'm still waiting for the 800hp minivan. Every man fears the minivan conversation when their wife gets pregnant. You need to sell your corvette honey cause we have twins on the way..... Might not be so bad if you bought one of these Wagons or maybe a minivan with the hellcat engine in it. :) Come on.... It's time. Give us a minivan with a Christmas tree in the instrument cluster.
they built some, the R class. nobody wanted to buy a MB Van tho so they stopped the production, there was even the R63 AMG, which is in fact one of the rarest modern AMGs
You've gotta test the BMW i3 - I've just had a ride in one, it's such a quirky car! Also, still waiting for the review of the second ugliest car ever made (right after the Aztek): The Fiat Multipla!
The Stig's German Cousin It’s Aztec with a C, and by the way the PRIUS is the ugliest car, not the Aztec. That makes both the Aztec and the Multipla look as great as the Agera R.
Dodek72 GOOD. And when they turn 25, DO NOT IMPORT ONE unless you want Doug’s experiences with it like with his old Nissan Snail, which is now a pizza delivery car. I wouldn’t want my pizza arriving in a Snail!
Have to say that I've just started watching your videos (along with videos from Jay Leno's Garage) and am impressed with the way you inform us about these cars with humor and quirky details about each of them, and then score them at the end. Keep up the good work
