I researched thoroughly before I bought my S10. This was one of the videos I studied I’ve added the following extras: 1. Factory panniers. Agreed they are not ideal. 2. Big Foot on sidestand base for soft/wet soil 3. Screen top extender, bottom side deflectors are next when I get to agents 4. Yoshimura tailpipe 5. Spotlights, as headlight was inadequate 6. Givi tank bag(small) 7. iPhone holder in lieu of GPS 8. Sump protector plate 9. Givi crash bars I will still fit a foldable gearshift and foot brake lever as well as the above mentioned wind deflectors below screen. I have spent money on the bike but I have a shaft drive as well as the Yamaha reliability and service network in South Africa.

Congrats on the Super Tenere purchase. I picked mine up in March 2018 and am loving it. A Yamaha touring windshield and side wind deflectors have been added for more wind protection. At the low position the windshield still allows a good amount of breeze to cool you off around town. At the highest position the windshield enables me to ride with my visor up at highway speed if I want to(I'm six feet tall). I don't adjust the height a lot, but have become familiar enough with adjusting it to do so at a stop light. A top case and engine guards are the only other add-ons I've installed. My previous bike (Vstrom) had the rad behind the wheel....I much prefer the Tenere's orientation the Strom's rad filled with bugs and dirt. Press on the lids of the cases when you use the key and you'll have a much easier time......I've not bent my key at all. I did the Lake Superior circle tour and the cases got a good test in rain....no leaks and they functioned well for the trip. The bike was so nice on the highway.....planted and comfortable enough to ride all day. Enjoy your Super Tenere!

Ditch the stock screen and get a Madstad screen and brackets. You can at least adjust it on the run and it actually is slightly wider and taller giving you more coverage. I also don't care for the exhaust note, but it's better than having to wear earplugs all the time. I have a Shoei Neotec and this is the first bike that is quiet enough to not have to also wear earplugs. I choose not to get the factory panniers and got the Bumots. They are heavy duty and really sealed well! Went through a frog floater in Denton, TX and everything stayed nice and dry. I was able to drive through where cars were having to pull off to keep from getting flooded.

Radiator was moved to the side so the motor could be moved forward and down for that low center of gravity which makes for the great handling it has. The reasons you stated are just a bonus. I got a 16 in yellow Kenny Roberts that I absolutely love. Shaft drive, tubeless, cruise control, most comfortable seating position I’ve ever found and tough as nails. I like the tough looking dash also. I’ve got the Yamaha tall windscreen with a spoiler on top that makes a turbulent free pocket of air that I can still see over. This is also the first bike of the many bikes I’ve had that I’m not bitching about the stock suspension (non es). I think I found a keeper!

I like the instrument panel. I'm just not in to the disco colors and lighting of other bikes instrument panel. Can be a distraction. I'm guessing the color screens wash out in the sunlight more than the black and white. (I have a 2015 non es) Also, it is an "adventure bike." Meant to get a little down and dirty. A pretty screen won't be able to handle the abuse and moisture as well and will be much more to replace. Just happy our bike have an adjustable windshield. I use the Madstad bracket. I've tried 5 different types of windshields and like the stock windshield best. I'm 5' 10" and have no problems with buffeting.

Those issues are mainly too minor and subjective. End of the day the Super Tenere take me places as plan. @jimwms1able
@jimwms1able 6 лет назад
Well, those are definitely items on the list. Other items are the oil window is not accurate until the bike is hot and on the center stand, my personal big complaint is the gear indicator does not work when the clutch is pulled in and the glare at times on the speedo screen when the sun hits just right...ouch. This is a great bike and rides really well. The BMW and others are great too but the cost is way up there. I have 7400 miles on my just turned 4 month old S10 and I think it is a keeper. I live in the mountains and when I first got the bike I was averaging 47 MPG but now I get (on average) 63 MPG if I stay out of the throttle and mid 50’s (two up riding) at sea level.

I agree about the gear indicator. Why would it not tell you which gear your in while you're say stopped with your clutch engaged? It's annoying. When did you notice your fuel mileage improve? I'm at 4k so far. I also do like not being able to adjust the height of my windscreen while moving. Beyond these small annoyances I'm very happy. It's my first non-BMW bike and with the money I saved I'm happy. I have Nelson-Rigg soft bags now but I'm shopping for hard luggage. I'd love to hear some opinions on that? Thanks

The windscreen/display are all things that would increase the price point of the bike - the BMW GS/KTM/Ducati are all 5-10k more making the S10 an incredible value for what you get. WIndscreens are ALL relative with any bike and winds/cross winds/buffetting can never be 100 percent eliminated. As soon as you go around a corner or change direction, that wind screen becomes a sail and pulls you one way or another, but I agree that it would be nice to be able to adjust it while on the bike. It is a bit fiddly. I bought a 2015, mine came with a Yoshima Rs4 which completely transforms and wakes the bike up. It's hard to keep from winding it out coming out of every turn. I still get 47mph. Yes, I've heard many complaints about the locks on the side cases. I"m not a fan of hard cases anyways. Mine is an ES but didn't come with them. I installed the Mosko luggage brackets and will eventually buy the Mosko soft luggage. My biggest complaint was the stock seat. I bought a Sargent seat (front only) just in time for a 1600 mile Big Bend trip. I was never sore and it's been the best investment for the bike so far. Lighting usually sucks, and Mine came with the Cyclops LED conversion and small light bar. I may eventually add some Denali yellow floods (for deer lurking on sides of roads) but these lights really make a huge diff.

Just found your channel. Really enjoy your content. I bought a new 2017 Tenere a few months ago. My complaints are pretty similar to yours. I've since changed out the windshield for a larger one and replaced the stock exhaust with Yoshimura RS4. I also don't like the stock seat for long trips and have replaced that with a saddleman seat. Still not as good as I'd like but better than stock. My biggest complaint has been the vibration coming through the handlebars and the noise that seems to be coming from the clutch. From my limited research. I've added grip puppies to the grips and added a speaker system to listen to music while riding. The grips have helped some with the vibration and either the speakers helped with the noise or I've gotten used to it. 😂

None of those things you mentioned are issues they’re more preferences. You have to keep in mind that this bike is substantially less expensive than the Multistrada, KTM1290, or R1250GS. It’s a lot of bike for the money and it’s performance is pretty close to those more expensive bikes. In fact I think the S10 is probably one of the most comfortable adv bikes for travel. And it does pretty well off road too. Back when I had mine I put it through some pretty nasty stuff in the woods. The only reason I sold mine was because it was the first year model with no cruise control and because I wanted an engine with more punch. I bought a KTM1190 and yes it was more spirited but it was not as good as the S10 as a traveling bike. I may get a new ES model this year.

I have looked , and looked, and looked all over to come up with an adventure bike that will go and go and go. There are very few who will do this. The AT , the T12, the T7, the BMW 800 adventure and maybe the Guzzi 850 will fit the bill. Bikes have become very complicated of late and all the technology is great....once it keeps working. ATM my choice would be the T12.

Flatcap007 And then it would be even heavier. The engine is definitely detuned (probably for heat issues) and some folks are getting reasonable power with a pipe and a reflash. The windscreen being adjustable on the fly, or at least with one hand would be nice. An electric windscreen adds complexity, cost, and weight.

Panniers I agree. Pressure on the lid should make lock turn easier. For the most part you're whining with 2 white breads under your arms lad. If you love that Ducati so much at 2x the Super T price..... Go get one. Those bells & whistles are only a place to go wrong. Especially on a trip. Set your screen to suit you & be done. The radiator absolutely doesn't vent straight onto your leg. It's way in front, unless you chose to 'Harley' your leg up front. I love my Super Tenére and live in the Texas Hill country. Never had a radiator issue. And it's hot here in summer. Exhaust... Horses for courses I guess. Yamaha has their finger on the pulse I feel. Good riding. 💪👍

Moto's in general, if they have medium to large engines, will cook you in traffic (physics, and IMHO). I spent over 5 years riding daily in Phoenix, AZ where the summer was where I would have to consider my safety during a ride in town (Heat Stroke and such). It could easily go over 130F (what is that, 54C). I have seen 140F (60C) while waiting at a light next to a truck. Yes, this is heated asphalt combined with engine heat. I would ride 105 to 110F, but usually not over that because of the above. Most days I commuted it was morning (95F) and return in evening (95 to 100F), but I was able to ride year round locally. Anyway, all that to say, no bike is immune as that heat has to go somewhere. Maybe there could be an aftermarket deflector to at least not dump on your leg. I haven't seen an S10 close up yet, but will look at that. You might want to consider that issue as you stated you wanted to travel south. It is rarely cool to cold once you get south (and summertime, south of Montana) of the US. Humidity combines with the sun (actually more of an issue because of angle the closer you get to the equator) and temp to cook you. Mesh gear and layering is the only way to go for long day rides. I can tell you about the nightmares of night riding if you ask). Glare on most bikes digital instruments and even analog seems to be an issue at certain angles. My wife's old Kawasaki Vulcan 800 (a HD Soft tail wanna be) had chrome around the tank mounted gauge and lights that near noon would try to blind you coming up under your sun glasses. Yah, panniers (my wife has Givi rounded hard luggage, I had to order a spare key from Italy) can be a pain, but they are far more secure for riding in the America's than soft. I saw a video where the guy put the key when not in use into a tube he made with a closed end so that he would coat the inside with lock graphite. That allowed for regular infusing of graphite to help with the loosening up of the lock. Just saying, I think I will try that with a couple of locks of mine. Because of the Givi's were added by a PO, she has three keys to work her bike. My "03 Kawa has one. Much nicer on the keychain (hers like's to get tangled. Windscreen: My wife's Vstrom DL650 had the stock screen, but an aftermarket mount that made a lot of difference. We did get a bigger aftermarket screen that gives her much better protection and the mount adjustability. Yes, more money. I have seen the deflectors, they might help with helmet buffet. I like a screen that gives my main body protection from strong winds (say 30mph head wind added to 70mph highway speed). I find that the more I have to hold against the wind, the more tiring, and shorter, the ride. I am spoiled by having a backrest and true CC. I can go 12 to 14 hours on my Voyager, but we have to limit it to 8 hours for my wife (no backrest, more wind, and old bike was more noise and vibration). Oh yes, seat can be everything for long rides. My stock and her OEM seat were really only 2 to 4 hours before you were looking for a cushion to add. My Corbin and her Sargent seats adds much to the comfort. I have sat on other model's of Yamaha and their OEM seats seam much better. Can't say about the S10 as yet haven't seen one in person (next time I am up in the US). Thanks again for your review. Let us know as you learn more. It probably won't be till next year before I get more earnest about looking, and then it will be for a little used, already as much set up as possible, S10 or maybe something else by then (3 to 4 years, light use seems to give the best price break). Chow (or whatever they say in Canada). Adiós!

Fair enough on the Euro 4 but I don't believe the actual muffler does much to impact the Euro 4 standard. Typically, and this is my own understanding its more how the engine is designed, tuned and how the Catalytic converter handles the remaining exhaust product. Quite certain a slip on won't negate the Euro 4 compliance.

They also do it to allow the motor to move forward, resulting in a longer swing arm and greater handling offroad. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gPXAA1hFZNY.html

I disagree, at a standstill the radiator on the side allows the heat to be "fan" blown away from the biker. by comparison my friend who has a Tiger 1200 complains about the excess coming up through the front mounted rad.

Why can't they give bikes like these cool names? WTF is Tenere???

Teneré means open spaces eg. desert in the Bedouin language, after all Yammie won the first few Dakar’s before they had proved their point.

Ducati Dude I had a 2011 Multi for 3 years and 20000km. It was a love hate relationship and finally ditched it for a S10 due too many problems. 4 th year with the s10 and 30000km and not one problem. I’m super happy.

what kind of range do you get on a full tank of gas? 200 miles? oh wait, canadian...ok, kilometers
@jackrabbit8703
@jackrabbit8703 5 лет назад
I've gone 250 miles on one tank...but was a bit worried. Average is 46-52 mpg. for me. I get about 2-3 mpg less on my s10 than my son on his s10 because I have full panniers and top case. Very economical for a 1200 cc bike.

Greezy_Chef , I was told it would burn your leg, since I made my original comment I have been told by multiple people it does not burn your leg, so I am 50/50 at this point..

JEB I live in Texas and it's not a problem for me. Your experience with it may vary. I owned 2 ktms and they both roasted my left thigh from the heat off the rear cylinder. Super tenere is in no way nearly as bad as those were. Jmho.

Greezy_Chef , thanks for the info, I am gonna go ride the Tenere ; how hard is it to ride due to the weight ?
@cuzimaluzer777
@cuzimaluzer777 6 лет назад
JEB the weight is down low. It's amazing how they mounted to motor. Getting off of my FJR and riding the Super T is something that always feels weird because the Super T feels so much lighter. But to be fair FJR'S weigh 640 pounds, and it's a top heavy bike. The weight of the Super T is low and forward. Very well balanced. I ride well maintained national forest roads at a pretty quick pace on mine. No problems.
