Hey Doug, The reason that you can deploy the power running boards independent of the doors is that, in case they get caked in mud from boots and such, you can put them down to go into a carwash or be able to hose them off without having the door open above it.

Well, it wasn't just Cummins, original 6BT was developed with Cummins, Dodge and Case IH. Also there are A LOT of semi/Lories that have straight 6 engines because a straight engine has a lot less stress than a v engine.

It's 2019, and, "We're almost to the point where you can pull a fully-loaded semi trailer with a vehicle you can just go buy at your local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram dealership..." Well, I'll be. Summer, 1992 I was working midnights with a guy who did repairs on tractor trailer vehicles. Guy radioed in that he was broke down a few miles away on the Interstate. So my buddy jumped in his beater F-250 and went off to get it going again. About an hour goes by and my buddy was on the radio telling me he couldn't get it started but they'd be up in a few minutes. I thought he meant that he was bringing the driver in to call a heavy tow truck. Imagine my surprise when I later looked out the window and saw his F-250 come creeping up the service road, TOWING the class d semi - with trailer still attached. He started yelling over the CB to run and get the garage door up because "taking off was a real b*tch." I did, he got the thing into the drive-through garage, and proceeded to repair it. Later, as the sun was rising and the driver was inside taking care of the bill, my buddy drove the now-running semi onto the scales to see how much he had towed with his mid-80s 300 straight-six F-250. He walked in and laid the weight ticket in front of me and stood there, grinning. I picked it up and read the total (multi-platform scale). Only slightly overweight - at something like 80,546 pounds. If he'd wanted to place a bet that night, he might have ended up having to decide which vehicle to drive home from work - his Ford pickup... or the one he'd just taken from me. What is this "progress" you speak of, lol?

Ram knew its customers and executed excellently. I have a 2010 I use for road trips when I work with the 6.7 Cummins and I have 420,000 miles. All I’ve had to replace is a water pump and alternate once each.

Although I love all the new diesels I WILL keep my old 2006 built duramax and enjoy its relative simplicity. That interior is going to be hell when it starts to glitch.

One reason they dont give you fuel economy numbers is because the sheer number of possible configurations. You can have it in 2500 or 3500. Single cab, extended cab, crew cab. Short or long bed. 2WD or 4WD. Single wheel or Dually. 3 different engines. And then empty or loaded. No manufacturer will test every possible combination to get you an average fuel economy number if they arent required to.
