I've always been bias towards manuals to be honest, but throughout the years It's started to become a pain when your consistently always in traffic. I think i'll be going auto for the first time. But it sure is a plus when you know how to drive both. lol
@@covenant_mog05 exactly. in europe, we all drive manuals but they're such a pain in traffic, especially cause streets in europe are so much smaller and the traffic is so congested compared to the US. got an automatic and i can't enjoy manuals anymore, lol. but i do like knowing how to drive both
Sorry to hear about Honda's envisaged plant closure. A Brexit casualty? I bought a new Honda Civic Del Sol Si in 1993 and still own it. Replaced the computer three days ago! Greetings from a Brit residing in the USA.
That sux that it’s closing down. The only car we got in Canada that was built in Swindon was the civic SiR hatch from the early 2000s. I’m still driving my 92 civic si hatch with 456 thousand kms on it. Love Honda
I picked up a 2020 Sport Touring Hatchback a few months ago and I love driving it every day, built in the U.K. Best of luck to your husband, I appreciate the work they do and hope Honda has a backup plan for those workers.
I've owned my civic hatch for about 6-7 months now. Some notes, in no particular order: 1. The turbo is not going to be as reliable down the road as a NA engine, but the passing power on the highway is great and makes it worth it IMO. 2. I haven't run into oil dilution issues yet *fingers crossed* but in the winter I turn on sport mode which elevates RPM's and warms the car up faster. I hope that helps. 3. Visibility out is great. When the rear camera gets gunked up from road grime (I live in Canada), I can always fallback to the windows and mirrors for reversing. The Mazda 3 hatch would've been much more difficult without the cameras. 4. Seating position can be dropped pretty low, lower than the 2019 Mazda 3 rental I had before. Gives a sportier feel which I like. 5. Even with the Touring's stock subwoofer, the bass is rather weak. The base model Mazda 3 had stronger bass than the sub from this unit. And I've tried all the settings and tried tweaks suggested in the forums. I'll describe the sound quality as OK, not super clear, not super bassy, but it sounds like a mid-level sound system more than an upgraded one. Will probably upgrade it provided it doesn't make point #7 worse. 6. The infotainment system is about 98% reliable. It randomly disconnects Android Auto on me, even when driving and without user input. 7. A lot of buzzes and creaks while driving. At certain speeds the headliner and sun visors vibrate. Over bumps the trim creaks. Hatch doesn't fully unlatch sometimes. Front armrests creak when I apply pressure. Pretty disappointed with the build quality of my car and the only reason I'd wished this car was made in Japan like my old 2008 Mazda3. Never in nearly 200,000km of driving did that car buzz or have creaky trim. While fit and finish is very good, it doesn't seem put together that well and some materials feel cheap. I hope my vehicle is the exception. 8. This car is roomy. It can fit adults in the back, has large windows and a relatively large hatch that prioritizes horizontal space over vertical space. This is arguably more useful 95% of the time. I haven't had to carry anything super bulky in it yet, but it has carried luggage, souvenirs and shopping for 4 adults on a week long trip. 9. I hate Lanewatch. I turned it off because its lagginess is arguably a safety hazard. I have Android Auto GPS running often, and when I engage the turn signals, there is a 1-2 second delay until the camera comes on. I could have completed a shoulder check in less time. When I turn off the signal/press the lanewatch button, there is another 1-2 second delay until the screen changes back to the GPS. I've turned it off and only engage it manually when traffic is heavy. I use it for planning lane changes and use the normal shoulder checks instead. Overall, I still love this car and has surprised me. I'm a stickler for quality and am somewhat of a basshead, but even though the Civic fell well short of those things, I still love this car. It's fun to drive, roomy, practical and looks great.

I appreciate your honesty. I've read other owners complain about the creaks and rattles. One of my pet peeves is a car needs to be quiet when I'm driving. I was thinking about getting a sport 2.0 non turbo with a manual xmission, but the reviews about rattles and such, no way.
Just saw your review and I appreciate you sharing your input. Just visited a dealership this morning and I fell in love with the 2020 civic(still deciding on a hatch or sedan), I do believe ill be getting mine soon so excited! the creakiness might be a pet peeve but i still haven't experienced it, but I drove ancient models before that rattle like no ones business so I don't think it will be much of deal breaker. As for the GPS monitor, I always use my phone as my go to GPS since forever but I do remember the days where I would use a physical map lol. All the new tech will be eye candy for me and definitely useful but I always fall back on good ol head twisting to check corners :D Thanks again for the review mate glad you love this car, hopeful soon I'll be on the same boat
Having huge bass is an obnoxious fad that has now taken over everything- and now everybody thinks it's how it "has to be", or is supposed to be. It's completely unnatural and doesn't represent at all what the the original creators of music intended, EXCEPT hip-hop and some dance-trance type stuff. Even radio stations have added bass to their signal before it even gets to you, because of this stupid fad.
Review is spot on as usual. 100% agree about the screen size and lack of ambient lighting. Pressure from you guys (reviewers) is what gets us meaningful change about what consumers actually care about. So thank you.
@@JokerG16 Sure, but other compact sedans offer those features. Features also trickle down every year, that is how you get panoramic roofs, and HID/LED headlights, heated steering wheels. Prices are rising regardless. So rather than have manufacturers put in "low-yield" features that increase prices, I'd rather have people like Sofyan re-calibrate expectations for what is important for consumers (full screen android auto/carplay, padding near the knee rest, safe LED headlights instead of cheap halogens). A few strips of ambient lighting does wonders to elevate the mood and feel of a car (see VW Passat). That costs pennies, and you feel like you are in a more premium vehicle despite the cheaper engine and lack of nappa leather. I don't need a heated armrest, but a heated steering wheel is a strategic few hundred dollars well spent that 80%+ of buyers will appreciate. Same for adjustable lumbar - I don't expect massaging seats, but most people will appreciate adjustable lumbar support. I can go on and on. Once again, thanks to Redline and others for focusing on the important parts.
I actually bought my 2021 Honda Civic hatchback because I actually like the Honda Lane watch camera over the Blindspot monitoring system ... I like the line spacers that displays as an overlay on the image of the Honda Lane watch camera...
I just bought the 21 Civic Hatchback Sport and have to say that I am very impressed with the overall performance and handling for a vehicle around 25k. I have owned other various Sport Sedans like the the Infiniti Q and G series along with the BMW 328XI. For the money, the Civic Hatchback Sport is a better value in my opinion than Infiniti or BMW. You get a reliable vehicle that has low maintenance and repair costs along with really good fuel economy! Kudos to Honda for making such a good vehicle at a very reasonable price point!
@ChocoMePengu I love ❤️ this car between the ride quality, handling, performance and gas ⛽️ mileage!! It's such a spectacular car and the build quality is superb 👌!! I highly recommend buying one!!!!!!
@@kenharris7194 didn’t get it guy was trying to force the car down my throat very rude haven’t even given up though my search will continue very sad dealership I went to car was so bad no original rims fender coming out tires worn 26k and he wouldn’t budge 💀 called him out and he got mad was used too 48k miles
An under 7-sec 0-60 was considered to be muscle car territory in the mid to late 80s. The Mustang GT then had 225hp, and that was considered a lot back then.
Eric B : I like it too, apparently this guy hates it, no wonder Honda did away with it. Now Hyundai has it in there new Palisade with cameras on both sides of the vehicle and the screen is located directly in front of the driver in the instrument panel.
I have a 2019 sport touring hatch and it's been amazing. I did trade out of a Wrangler 2 door so I think a roller skate might feel like it drives like a Lamborghini but I've been very impressed with this car. Even with just 180hp it has some get up and go in not used to.
I also went from a 2 door jeep to a Civic. I went to a '14 si. Honestly don't regret my decision at all really love driving it and it is decent on gas (obviously if I got a normal Civic it would be a lot cheaper with not having to buy premium). I built my Jeep and really made it my own, but the Civic is really just a jack of all trades, for me at least..
I have a 2020 Civic Touring sedan and it’s one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. I Love the all black interior Sofyan. Sofyan you should know by now there is a second setup for the infotainment that is 100x better.
You compalined about the lanewatch..First: You can turn it off in the settings if you dont like it. Second: The Apple Carplay/Android Auto display also shows up in the gauge cluster when a turn/exit is approaching, so even if the lanewatch comes on when you signal, you can still see the direction in the gauge cluster so you dont miss anything.
And not only that. But a camera is more reliable than the sensors which, sometimes cannot be trusted 100%. Still Honda will change to the sensors in the future I got the camera anyways
Thanks for reviewing this car. I had a 2016 ext and got rid of it just because I got it as a lease and didn’t want to loose any more money on it but I miss how it drove and how good looking the interior was. I can’t wait for Honda to redesign the exterior on the Honda Civic and new accord. Honda definitely has good looking interior.
@@fz094ever4 I just financed my 2020 corolla le that I will own soon. The only vehicle I will even lease is nissan and luxury brands. With finance unlike lease im not restricted as to how much mileage I can put in a year and also that I have to return it after 3 years
The crazy thing is that the base Honda Civic Hatchback smoked every single other contemporary base trim rival including the Corolla, Golf, Mazda3, Impreza, Elantra/Forte, and Sentra while also giving the older 2015 Civic Si with VTEC a big run for the money.
I have this exact vehicle and spec on my 2019 hatch. It’s my daily and it’s pretty much perfect. If it weren’t for fear of the oil dilution issue I’d plan on keeping it forever.
Calisto Riviera I get you. I have a 17 and the fuel injection system is real and it has its pros and cons. I know port injection is just better but Honda was dealing with ambitious mileage requirements back closer to 2010 so they went this way but the 8% improvement comes with problems and geared properly and with reduced weight, the port injected can do just as well or better
Love the looks of the current gen Civic. It's bold, striking and looks like nothing else on the road. If I was buying in this class I would take this or the pretty looking Mazda 3.
I have had My 2020 Sport Hatchback for just a bit over a month. I love it. I am already a technophile, I am ok with the smaller screen, less distracting. Everything I need is in the dash display.
I actually really like the lane watch camera. I have it on my '15 civic si and it's one of my favorite features. glad it's still on the sport hatch, thinking of maybe trading in...
I look forward to watching your reviews. Always well spoken, and you are fair, while giving a truly comprehensive understanding of the overall pros and cons. I watch a lot of vehicle reviews that include many of the more popular automotive journalists. Sofyan, thank you! Keep being the best in automotive reporting - you have great power in inspiration and knowledge.
I ended up purchasing the 19 Mazda 3 2.5 manual. I found it more refined and it’s an actual hatch. I also like the naturally aspirated engine’s linear power over the turbo.
I have yet to drive one but the '18 Mazda 3 felt like the shifter was stiff and the car's handling was not as planted as the Civic. The power was good though.
can we just take a moment to appreciate the production quality of this video? I'm a Television and Video major and I'd have to say its quite nice seeing quality content on RU-vid for once.
Always loved Honda cars as far back as the 80s. Just bought the civic yesterday, again. Had a civic back in 1990; a del sol in 1994. Had two Toyota 's (SR5 and Camry.) Purchasing my last car for life in a couple of years and thought it would be a Lexus but will close out with another honda. Just a good buy overall.
I recently rented this car. It’s pretty nimble, has a great turning radius and is great on gas. My only gripe is the comfort of the seats (they’re not comfortable at all). Aside from my backache, it’s a reliable car and drives great in all weather conditions. I wouldn’t buy one because of the seat issue but it’s a smooth ride and they’ve kept the body style pretty aggressive and streamlined.
I have the 2018 ext manual sedan version of the civic. Out of all the cars I’ve driven and/or been in it’s legitimately my favorite for what you pay. I say that honestly, I am not being biased. I’ve hated my previous cars looking at you pontiac and vw. I absolutely love this car and I kid you not, even if I won the lottery tomorrow I would never sell it. I would still use it as an everyday car because it’s that good. It’s so fun to drive. It’s powerful enough where it’s fun, but not so powerful where you’re going to be getting pulled over (I have a lead foot). Apple car play is wonderful. The car is just smooth and can be tossed around. I’ve lended my car to my dad for a few weeks now since I don’t need it and my mom got into a crash and so has to use my dad’s car. Anyway he won’t stop telling me how much he loves the car. It is a phenomenal car. My only issue has been the ac. It’s broken twice on me. Luckily it was under warranty so it got fixed for free. Other than that the car has been 100% solid. Absolutely love this car and if you’re considering buying it, I highly recommend it.
I honestly just love looking forward to your reviews, you’re just amazing. Thanks for all the videos, they’re entertaining and descriptive, something most reviewers are tending to forget about. Happy Holidays to you!
It's ok to have a small screen, some of us dislike TV's in our car. I definitely agree it needs some interior color contrast at least. Less added features are good, I just want an inexpensive, reliable car and Civic has filled that space for a long time. Keep it up Honda!
Honda cars are never into the beauty contests. Especially with their rear designs. It looks like their design engineers give up by the time they reach the rear area! 😜
Bro these are fantastic little cars. Got my sister one for Christmas and she's been ecstatic. For the price, everything works in your favor on these....
Civic's are great cars! My 2017 EX-T has the 1.5 liter turbo, which gives the car great excelleration, and the steering is nice and firm, steers like a dream! Car hasn't changed much in a few years, but it's nice that they added Honda assist to all models, and they put some actual buttons on the screen! The buttonless system, which Honda incorporated in the 2016-2018 models, is a major pain in the ass 😡 but aside from that, the car is an awesome, affordable sporty ride, one of the most stylish and fun to drive affordable sedans of the late 2010's
I had the 2020 sport sedan but it didn’t have all of the features I wanted. I ended up getting the 2021 sport touring and I’m much happier. The three things I would like would be memory seats, rear heat vents and blind spot monitoring in the side mirrors like my Jeep has. Other than that I really like it.
I am 6ft9 and buying a car sucks. I've kept the same family 2003 Odyssey and need something cheap but fun for school since my van is having problems shifting on my way to Uni. I always thought civics were crappy little cars until I got to drive around the sport hatch (no sun roof). My local dealer is really relaxed and lets people test drive for 40 minutes without a sales person, no arguing about an extended test drive either. I found that the base sport hatchback has good headroom and I really like to pep of this motor. You could argue that the thing is a little slow but if that means more time to hear the engine rev then I'm happy. Too bad I cant slap a Vtec kicked in yo sticker on it though, haha. Also what is important is the manual in this car. I work at Hyundai and driving around the Veloster stick shift feels really like a chore while I actually enjoy the civic's stick. Thinking about buying this 2020 year, CVT variant though of sport hatch (no sunroof), since my university is 30 miles daily driving into Chicago with inching/frequently stopping traffic and I don't want to clutch in and out all the time.
To fix the issue with the blind spot camera turning on when you need your gps, just tap the camera button at the end of the turn signal and it will turn the camera off while turning
Going today to look at a 2021 in Sonic Grey Pearl color, but I like this color better honestly. The back end does look a little unfinished but the rear spoiler can fit a ducktail spoiler so ima slap one of those on. Idk why but the tail lights are a bit much for me. If they took off the 2 little lights that are on the hatch I think it would look cleaner. 🤷♂️
I had a 19 civic ex and just picked up a 21 touring in sonic gray because I don’t like the 22 hatchback and I don’t regret it. That color changes the car dramatically. Love it!
1. This model also comes with an optional ivory interior, which is two tone . 2. What was called “ carbon fiber “ trim on the dash , looks nothing like carbon fiber . It’s has dark metal look with a grain to it . Also has a metallic flake in sunlight .
@@bimer420 yeah but most people race at stop light...90% of the time someone challenge you on the road it's at a stop light and the civic both 1.5 manual and 1.5 cvt sucks at stop light racing
One thing that I find amazing is that now we are all loving interior accent lighting. Just an observation and not a complaint... because I too love the new accent lighting in all the newer cars!
I have the 2017 civic hatch EX in blue and I absolutely LOVE this car! I came from an upgrade from the 2002 Honda Civic coupe so this was a major upgrade for me. I love the way this car looks and I love the way it drives. I usually drive with it in the eco mode but when I put it in sport, it flies! It flies in the eco mode too but the sport mode has even more pick-up. As much as I love this car, there are two things I’m not a big fan of: 1. In my model it doesn’t have a volume nob but I mainly use the steering wheel controls for this (looks like this may not be an issue in the later models). 2. When driving, the road noise is pretty loud. The music does get louder when you drive but talking on the phone using the Bluetooth is a little more difficult but not too bad...you get used to it.
I traded in a 2004 Civic LX sedan, to a 2018 Civic Hatchback EX like yours...my foot is used to the 2004 wow the new Civic just takes off. I’m looking forward to buying a body kit, spoiler, and aftermarket LED taillight for my car. Search on RU-vid there are some awesome kit and LED tail light for the hatchback.
Lane watch camera is not just aged ... it was a bad design from beginning. It adds so much of extra processing for drivers brain. A simple blind spot indicator is much better design.
@@f181234 True, but when u have cam, ur brain needs to work on the distance and metrics ... the camera will show a car which is farther in the lane. On the contrary, the indicator is just on or off ... simple binary code for brain to decode!!
Can’t wait to see the 11th gen Civics on the road later this year. I’m not 100% sold on the redesign looks...yet (I LOVE the 10th gen looks) but I have an open mind.
The sport and sport touring have a lower MPG rating. I'm getting around 28-30, but I mash the accelerator in a lot because it's fun. I've turned on eco+drive mode and set up the sensing auto pilot and get more about 36.5-38 MPG on highway trips in my Sport Touring.
Memory seating; Lol, It’s called leave my seat the F😖ck alone! I Love my 2019 Civic EX-T in grey/ silver metallic! 36 mpg city/44 mpg hwy and $25 fill ups!#Honda#Civic
I love when they talk about cars safety features and im still driving cars that still only have airbags and seatbelts like you dont need all that if you would put your phone down and watch the road
Probably the most practical. I love the layout of the center console. I am probably going to either get the next Generation Civic in ex trim or the next TLX.
Honda til I die, just about to pick up my nearly new civic after trading my Accord (Acura TLS)in, which I hasten to add still looks quite new, drives like a dream and will serve someone really well, even though it has 145000 miles on it!
@@kamalalleyne2197 traded it in Monday for a Kia Sportage. The Crosstour was too slow. Sluggish. Instant battery drain. Had to replace the original battery within 5 days of buying it. Then a week later it still said battery low. There was a rattle in the wheels from 40-60mph. Apparently all of these things are common for crosstours
I got the same exact color and year but in the sport trim for $23,300 it was a sweet Memorial Day deal. And the city I reside in shot me a $500 visa gift card for purchasing a vehicle during a pandemic (which it all went to insurance and gas). Overall it is a very good car. Love the cargo space. The only thing that does suck is the CVT lag after u come to a complete stop. When the car was a few months old the lag wasn’t all that harsh but 5 months later the CVT lag has gotten worse. I’m definitely getting an upgraded exhaust system to help , to start with.
Sofyan does a great job and I enjoy his reviews. But his disdain for Honda LaneWatch is becoming comically legendary. LOL. I like LaneWatch but he is correct that it can interfere with GPS if you use the integration. But Honda should keep LaneWatch and just add blind spot too. Bring LaneWatch back to the Accord too please!
Honda really screwed themselves over by not enhancing Lanewatch over the years. Kia now has two-sided lanewatch on their high end vehicles, right on the speedo cluster itself. Essentially, Kia is going to say they invented lanewatch since Honda is giving up on the tech. Blindspot monitoring, by the way, stinks, especially on econo cars they use cheapest grade sensors that false all the time! can't trust it.
Used to own for about 1 year the 17 Civic 1.5t sedan manual. Great car, great gas mileage (up to 50mpg pure highway when I travelerd to FL from NY). Only issue, seats killed my back. Traded for 18 wrx, no regrets other than I miss the gas mileage.
Alex Peguero yes the seats are DEFECTIVE. I changed mine a little but they still are not comfortable on highway and if not electric, you can't adjust them well and they are 1-2 inches too low. Only the Type R seats feel good. Subaru seats always feel more comfortable especially on WRX models. Good move
A very good review! That’s your standard! I appreciate your discussion of the pros and cons of the Civic Hatchback. Right now, the new Mazda CX-30 is starting to look better to me. The only negative for the Mazda is the performance. And that’s a very big negative 👎🏽! However the Mazda looks better, has modern blind spot monitoring, a six speed automatic transmission versus a CVT, an all wheel drive option and a superior sound system in the higher trim levels. Normally I am a Honda fanboy, but if I had to choose now it would be the Mazda!🙏🏽
More importantly, Mazda doesn't have the shitty direct injection (and all the shitstorm of troubles that come with it) that Honda turbocharged engines have.
nearly a year late, but you didn't fully disable the traction control system: you have to perform the pedal dance. 1. Turn car to on position 2. Parking brake off 3. Press and hold brake pedal 4. Turn traction control on and off 5. Parking brake on 6. Release brake pedal 7. Turn traction control on and off 8. Press and hold brake pedal 9. Turn traction control on and off The VSA light will light up and another similar but with the letters "OFF" will be blinking."
I’m sure it gets great gas mileage because I have the 2019 civic si and I get 37 mpg city. Yeah that’s insane for a sports car not driving on the highway. Down side is the stupid premium gas it needs
@@DBCOOPER888 Yes, but you dont need to have a freaking high end tablet with many apps and toys in it... I can even be happy managing my music and my GPS using a single deck stereo with BT and my phone.
@@wtrdogg20 sure you can manage it with a phone, but it's often against the law to look down at your phone while driving, which means if you want to use GPS decently you need to hook it up to the dash in some awkward way. A car's built in GPS is also a hell of a lot more reliable than most phones, especially if you get out of reception.
