When I reviewed the Indian Roadmaster, I found the chassis to handle superbly and the TS111 sufficient for an excellent and relaxing cruise--but if I wanted to squeeze the juice out, I was left wanting. The Thunderstroke 116 engine becoming standard changes that entirely.
It's no Indian Challenger, but it doesn't need to be (and that's 100% perfectly fine.)

With ape hangers handling does not get impaired but ape hangers will help you with shoulder fatigue from long rides!

I went from a Scout to a '19 Springfield Darkhorse in white smoke and I love it. 111ci right now, but I've got the 116ci kit in the closet right now, just waiting for install 👍 Also, the throttle moves forward to roll off cruise control. You dont have to cancel cruise with pushing a button or the brakes. You can roll the throttle forward and it cuts the cruise.

Honestly if they took this bike out the the challenger's engine, and slap some more power since it's liquid cooled I would loved it

I bought the 2020 Challenger with a test ride, first trip over a hundred miles the wife and I hurt so bad I went on line looking for a really good seat. None available until September, you could get a crap seat but none of the high end touring seats. Talked to the dealer and traded for a 2020 Springfield two tone with cams, oval exhaust and the hi flow intake. Love the Springfield ride all day on it! And the optional cams for the 111 are really ballsy! The Springfield is lower seat height lower center of gravity and easier to handle in slow walk around speed and less twitchy at high speed than the Challenger. May go 116 some year but happy with what it is now!

@@InvictvsNox If you haven't tried a Springfield with the performance upgrade you need to, and the non-darkhorse has the windshield standard. Actually it has the best assembly of features of any of the windshield bikes as they come with passenger floorboards. Give the performance package a try, I think you'll like it!

Riding for 55 years -no footraps. 1st 45 min. On new 2020 Springfield had two footraps turmoil left. Mangled my foot and ankle. Goons take 3 months to rehab and heal. Lucky it wasn’t snapped off.

Throttle reverse overtravel feature is to cancel cruise control, and probably also has ECU function for technicians. You’ll find it on most e-throttle bikes. Need to ride one of these! Rode the Challenger and was highly impressed, but I don’t think I want a fixed fairing bagger right now.

InvictvsNox, the boot contacting the exhaust used to happen to me when I first got my Springfield. In my case that was a bad habit from my previous bike. I verified it was by standing bike straight and then presenting my boot, not flat on the floor, but rather at a 90 degree. At that angle, any boot will touch the exhaust with the heel. I do agree, these bikes have torque, are comfortable and are great on curves. BTW, thank you for sharing video.

I have the 2019 Springfield in White Smoke, I just bought it new in Stugis, SD, at the 2020 rally. I could have bought a 2020 Springfield in same color with the 116, but preferred the 2019. I like that the 2019 came with the highway/auxiliary lights (up front next to headlight), and that the tail light/brake light is separate from the directional. Plus, I'm not a big fan of the 2020 tank badge, I much prefer the older decal/paint on teh tank. All in all, there is more to the 2019 but to each their own. :) I traded in my 2017 Chieftain and to be honest I think the TS111 with the airbox, tune, and Warhorse pipes (I did same to 2019 Springfield) isn't far enough behind the 116 decked out in similar fashion to make much of a difference (if any). Regardless if we're talking about the 111 or 116,... either way the HD guys fall behind going uphill. ;)

I love that bike but the one thing that is bugging me is that the speedo is too low and I had to look down with my head and not just my eyes to see it. I would prefer it up higher (further up on the tank). I don't need to see the gas gauge easier than the speedo.

Dude, I love this bike! With the seat height slightly higher then the scout maybe me being 5'9 I could actually still ride it. Going to look at them after I graduate college. Nice review man.

If your coming from pegs to a floor board it’s common to feel a little awkward but after riding with them for a while you will realize you wouldn’t go back. And if you ride like I do .... your boots will thank you for having running boards 👍

I also felt vibrations in the bars and floorboards in the lower gears when I was hitting higher revs. Definitely a great bike enjoyed the ride.

Springfield on your short list for your next bike? That’s a bike that’s caught my eye recently. I think even the Dark Horse would benefit from a windshield though. What’s new with the Scout? I’ve been watching your channel for a couple of years now. Purchased a Scout Sixty partly based on your Scout content (I think you’re right about Sixty owners wishing they had that 5th gear). Anyway...hadn’t noticed any new content lately. Hope all is well. Take care.

I believe the dark horse does have power mode via the toggle switch on the back side. but I could be wrong !

I'm very certain you're right since this year should have both modes AND cylinder deactivation, but I wasn't able to dive that deep during this review. :(

How did you find the comfort level of the seat between the Challenger and this bike? Also handling? Did this feel a bit nimbler because of no fixed fairing? Living out in a vast prairie like I do, I wonder if the fixed fairing would provide some good stability. But I do like the old skool look of the SF compared to the Challenger.

I found this Springfield to be both more comfortable and more nimble than the Challenger, however the difference was very hard to notice. If offered the choice between the Challenger and Springfield Darkhorse specifically, I'd say it's worth choosing the Challenger for the air protection alone.

@@InvictvsNox thanks. I am also thinking of that same factor: wind protection. One more question: any sense of vibrations in the bars or floorboards that might give the impression: here comes the numbness. So far I haven't seen any vlog reviews mentioning this as a concern.

I have to disagree on the clutch pull. My new Roadmaster pulls very easy and has a very good feel. Then again both Harleys I have were cable clutches as well.

I would say you need to ride the 116 big bore kit but that new 116 is butter and the stage 2 116 feels similar to the big bore kit The big bore kit 116 is definitely rougher. You waited long enough that they made a standard 116 motor lol

They have the 116 big-bore kit installed by the factory. They also have a factory tuning. I've been told having the kit from the factory is definitely a more tame experience.

@@InvictvsNox it's kind of wonky though, that you need a Stage 1 and Stage 2 to get a 111 to Stage 3, 116. But even though this comes from the factory with 116, Stage 1 and Stage 2 aren't stock? Very confusing. Debating trading in my Scout for either a 2019 111 or 2020 116. I hear through the grapevine from guys that have owned 111/116 conversions and 116 out of the box, that the 111/116 conversions were smoother. It's all subjective, but still something to ponder

Foot trap on Springfield is a big problem. Muffler catches foot and mangles it. Be very aware of keeping feet up on floorboards in each and every left turn. Crushed my foot twice in first 45 minutes. Design flaw big time.
