The 2021 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Surprised Me!!

This week I drove and reviewed the 2021 Camaro ZL1 and found that it was one of the most capable cars I've ever driven!! Of course it lacks the refinement and luxury of a Porsche 911... but it easily outperforms said 911... all the way until we're talking about GT3's and Turbo S's!!
The combination of pure grip and a communicative steering feel is sure to leave a smile on your face. Even if the strangely angled infotainment screen and limited visibility bother you, as they bothered me, the alcantara wrapped manual shifter and steering wheel, along with the Recaro buckets seats all but make up for it.
This is all especially true when close to all 650 horsepower can be unleashed out in the canyons where I had the pleasure of driving this beast of a Camaro... if I ever doubted a muscle car, the ZL1 not only changed my perspective, but also left me more curious than ever to drive the Shelby GT350 as well!!

Ohhh... tell me more!! Yet to drive a GT350 (only experience in current gen Mustang is the GT), what're the main pros and cons between the two?

@@Reoniz GT350 was a V8 Honda. Had to rev past 5-6k to get real power down. Its a true NA race car experience. Its completely visceral and you feel really connected to the car/road. Very sluggish feeling as a daily driver however, low end torque doesn't exist. ZL1 however is just bananas all the time, slightly more disconnected feeling, but still amazing. I also wanted to mod my car a little and I didnt feel right throwing a supercharger or turbos on the Gt350s flat plane motor.

@@clancas01 ahh that makes some sense!! Hopefully I'll drive a GT350 sooner than later myself... but until then your perspective is helpful. I've generally heard that this LT4 can seriously outlast that flat plane V8's in the Stang!! One of the reasons this particular cars owner chose it over the Ford

That’s crazy I saw this comment because I was literally about to buy a used 2019 GT350 and before I signed I walked out and went straight to Chevy and got a brand new 2022 ZL1 Convertible 6 speed manual. I’m beyond stocked with myself and literally my last second decision to abort and not buy that pos used car.

Hey little hesitant to watch im a huge camaro guy wish i had a ZL1 but my wife drives a 2018 RS its her daily driver. We love bought it for $20,000 with 6000 miles on it in 2018. idk what more we could ask from a car in that price range. But anyhow very well spoken im now a subscriber keep up the great work. I just ordered a convertible, manual ZL1. Infinite headroom on rear seats, better and more exciting exhaust enjoyment y zero blind spots. Also there are almost no competitors out there that come in a manual. In fact I think zero ;)

I had a 14 Z/28, and now have an 18 ZL1, manual and the same Hyper Blue color. Love the car, totally agree about the blind spots, but knew that coming in.

Nice one Reo! Changed my mind a little too on this type of domestic performance car. But that tall boy failure is going to be a dealbreaker lol - J/K I only need 1 open drink at a time. That’s a damn good value like you said for some cool burn outs and such. Chevy deserves some awards for this one.

Haha this is not a muscle car, it is a more of a sports car thanks to the chassis. This is a 2021, you should have a rear view camera in the rear view mirror. Have a 2019 ZL1 with the 10 speed auto, Crush color, it's a blast. Be safe and God Bless!

Most people calculate the difference between the SS and zl1 but don't consider they keep the Lt1 as trade in for the Lt4. So how much is the Lt4? Way too expensive.

Still surprised how people sleep on GM performance, this car will MURDER anything from Japan and eat the lunch of anything from Germany and you just now find out after like 5 years? Wait til you drive a CT5 V Blackwing or the 4. Nothing touches the alpha platform performance and when you factor in price it’s just an embarrassment to other manufacturers. The “regular” SS 1LE will make you leave that Supra in the garage AND for less money. Thanks 4 the vid and for educating yourself.

I have a 2020 SS manual and your absolutely correct.I test drove a Mustang and a Challenger and needless to say the Camaro won me over as it handles better than any. No Japanese car in its class has nowhere near the power as a Camaro.

So funny, I drove a Supra same day I drove this ZL1... It held up surprisingly well considering the power discrepancy

I own gt 350r and just got my 2022 zl1 1le manual. Wtf ????? I’ve never cared for Camaro. But this is not a Camaro. It’s something special. Will never get ride of the 350. But I can stop driving this car. The love is real!!!

Ya the new G8X are $$$, but I was comparing it more so to an F8X you could get for the same roughly $60k price point... I haven't had a chance to drive the M3/4! I have feeling I'd take them over the Camaro haha 😈

Paddle shifters are the way to go ! So you can keep your hands on wheel concentrate on brakes! A old fashioned manual is stupid on a car with this much power!

I usually agree, in this case it was fairly easy because the torque curve so wide you could mostly stay in 3rd or 4th - but ya it's nice to keep both hands on the wheel with high HP
