Can confirm. Growing up in WA, we played pickleball all the time in gym class. It was an easy indoor activity to do on the basketball courts.

The game would be amazing if the players had to play fetch with a dog for 20 minutes before the game and let it run around during play.

Same here on the weekly games. My crew is fun though, some light smack talk, and a variety of game strats, some dinking points, some smashing points, it's great fun. Well, until those super competitive douches show up and try to make it the most important thing in their life.

The dinking strategy largely depends on the players. Many players are more aggressive, i.e. Waters/Waters, Ben Johns, Matt Wright, AJ Koller. They tend to attack more often, on what most would call "less attackable or unattackable balls". Saying the game at the highest level is just dinking and hoping the other team hits it into the net is pretty reductive. All pro's have great hands, regularly hit passing shots, volley rallies (as shown in this video), lobs, flicks, slices, drops, etc.

There is no activity so mundane or uninteresting to spectators that Americans will not be extremely competitive about it.

Infinitely better work out than golf. As long as golf, an activity where you can actually gain weight while doing it, is considered a sport, it keeps the definition pretty wide open
