Just bought the 2023 bike, number one reason was the price, what a bargain! No brainer in my eyes. Then I also love the look of it, like a smooth inline 4, plenty of power and up and down quickshifter! I don't need or want all the fancy electronics so would be a waste of money for me buying one of the more expensive options 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've just bought one. 'A' mode is loads of fun, plus its really comfy and that standard exhaust gives a nice crackle. But the price makes it outstanding.
@@Dutchmonsterbike there's a marker on the rev counter, about 4k Everything after that is QS. It makes a huge huge huge difference on acceleration. Instant gear changes. So fast they make you go whoa hang on.
I reckon this bike is the one I'd get in this class, as certainly it isn't a tech laden as the more expensive competitors, but it does have decent suspension, an up/down quickshifter, decent brakes and good throttle response, as compared to the previous iteration. For the price...well..it's a snip really.
i@@BikesofRye I hope you have seen other reviews, such as Visor Down, Lamp Chop Rides, Missenden Flyer, also Mark Pulling etc...all were liking this bike..the bi-directional QS was a particular like. Man, saving 2 or 3 grand is a huge thing!! Having less tech is a good thing...it means YOU ride the bike...no nanny electronics watching you. As I say, 11 grand for this is a snip, I think.
Great review there. I’m thinking of getting one of these. And I noticed you borrowed it from my local Suzuki dealer in Letchworth. I’ve bought 2 V-Stroms from A&M over the past few years. Brilliant service.
Nice review. I like that you said straight from the off the supernaked are great but too much for you at this point. They are for most people whether they admit it or not! I think this is a great road bike & genuinely one of the best value bikes out there at the moment. You could also stick with almost anything on the road with it too as it's not slow by any means.
Now that you’re back in market, I would suggest jumping back on the MT 09 SP again! It’s electronics package is inedible, engine is amazing and all for an incredibly affordable price! 👍🏻
Great vid mate! You can never fault suzuki for providing smooth, great handling, reliable bikes. I'm sure that thing would be mint with a full system, air filter and dyno tune. Was it 150hp claimed at the crank?
It's 150bhp... the guy at the dealership also tunes the bikes on a rolling road they have there and reckons a full system and tune the bike will produce 155 at the wheel
That’s basically a new version of my 2020 Katana. I got mine last August for $9,000 USD as a demo bike with 825 miles and the first service done, still with full warranty. Too good of a deal, got the black one. The Katana/GSX-S1000 is very overlooked, they’re rock-solid and very well-balanced bikes. Footless stops are effortless and so is puttering around town, but on any country roads it’s an excellent fast roadster. The bike is also faster than 600cc sport bikes, having a 0-100mph time of 6 seconds flat and a 100-200kmph of 5 seconds flat, and running the 1/4 mile in 10.7 to 10.9.
Love this bike, colour & looks are great for my taste its a sexy little thing even for a 'generic suzuki' This is a good next bike consideration for sure, shouldn't be overlooked...
I don't believe it would get destroyed by the super nakeds as you say. A fast competent rider on this would stand a chance with most if not all in its class. V4 streetfighter aside and maybe the Aprilia I think this is a great bike. The Honda cb1000r won't handle like the suzuki because of the front rake. It sort of reminds me of the FZ8 I used to have. Everyone jumped on the MT range but when all said and done the FZ8 was actually the better bike. The 800cc was an absolute beast and due to the ergos it was better handling than the 07 and 09. I'd take one of these all day or the monster 1100 evo, last of the air cooled
It definitely wouldnt get destroyed. Most people that buy these bikes plan on driving on the streets, not racetrack. So even if it is half a second slower in some cases it really doesnt matter.
Test riding one tomorrow. Recently took out the MT10 and it's scary fast, like too fast for the road you have to use the lesser power modes plus it's almost double the price Got a Tracer900GT atm
@@BikesofRye nah - engine is great but I like the creature comforts of my tracer with heated grips and cruise. Gonna save a bit more and go for the mt10 once cost of living crap is over
First time viewer, and enjoyed the review. I am in a similar position to you (upgrading a 17 S1000R, so similar pool I am looking at) so appreciate your perspective.
I'm just curious as to how this isn't a super-naked? It's almost impossible to exploit anything above 120hp in the UK and this exceeds that by some way! I feel like just because it doesn't have the HP figure that the Tuono/Duke/SF-V4/SpeedTriple; it is still, easily, enough to keep up with those bikes on the roads.
It's not just the outright power you need to think brakes, suspension, tyres, weight, tech....it will be rider dependant really who can exploit anything above 120bhp. I'd go just as quick on this as a super naked to be honest
It does have wheelie control.. sort of..the TCS is also wheelie control. You said it’s not made for the track, but i believe it would still be very capable.
TC on my Street Triple acts as anti wheelie but it isn't separate which is annoying. Also I said it isn't a track focused bike it's built for the road. But no doubt you could still have fun on the track with one as you can with many road bikes
@@BikesofRye I agree. Having a separate anti wheelie is a lot better. This bike is like a mustang in the early 2000s. It’s a fast, economical, and inexpensive. I pre ordered one in the beginning of august. The dealer should have it in the winter sometime. Thank you for your review 👍🏼
At the point I decided to sell the Triumph street triple 765rs due to wanting a little more bhp but more importantly at 6ft a big framed bike I chose the Mt10 which I love but the Suzuki looks a great alternative and very well priced too. Cheers.
@@BikesofRye I do miss that wonderful 765 triple, however the crossplane 4 which I have de-catted and added a Scorpion can sounds wonderful V4ish, and she fits me better size wise, highly recommend despite the fact it hasn't really changed for 5 years. Thanks for your great videos.
Did you end up getting it ? I am on the Fence too, had a GSX-S 750 2018 and loved that Bike to pieces so much that I sold my Z900 2020 to eventually get another GSXS. I want a fun, reliable bike that I can modify to my pleasing and that doesn't cost 2 Kidneys and a Leg to get. The S1000R, CB1000R and the MT10 are all way too expensive for similar Specs. Heck I can tune that GSXS for cheaper than those Bikes cost.
Hmm, sounds like a great real world bike but having watched most of your vids, I think it lacks some of the quality components that you like. As an example, the front master cylinder with integrated reservoir which looks budget. 11k sounds a bit salty to me when the MT09 SP is 10.2k OTR? Great review as usual.
Thanks - it is an overall great bike I think it could benefit with a few tasty modifications. It has kyb front forks and brembos it isn't totally basic. I wonder too if you could get money off a brand new one I'd like to think likely through winter months
@@BikesofRye fair one, are you going to try the new S1000R? BMW give good discounts a lot of the time. Might be worth holding on until Nov/Dec incase Yamaha announce a new MT10 aswell?
I would love to see a new MT10 but my guess would be face-lift, euro5 with no extra power and new colours. We need a new R1 which shouldn't be too many years from now since it came out in 2015
The biggest fault I find with the dash is the brightness, or lack there of. Wish there was a way to boost it by about 50% and then I'd be pretty happy with it.
Erm honestly I think I would actually take the 765rs. There really isn't much in it power wise and the 765rs is so light and nimble. It's a more focused bike in my opinion. The GSXS1000 is a great bike though!
I know you love the 765 and so do I its in my dream garage bud trust me but I should've said im also 6'5 15 stone the wrong side of 40 and 35% 40% of my time i got the misses on the back if I was single id go for the rs but think she'd kill me 😂 Can't wait to see more of your new bike also thats only a £bonus£ away for me but the bonus never comes 😂🤣😂 😭
Got a mt09 sp coming Friday I know you mentioned you wanted something with more power so you tried this but the mt will beat this 0-100/120 by a second or so
Cool bike, but I really think they should have a imu and cruse for some more electronics goodness. Not a bad price point though I guess but it's mt09 and ktm 890 money, yes there down on power but get more electronics for the same cash and lighter 🤔
I would say my Street Triple would stick to it like glue down a B road no problem. Won't be much in it straight line either. But I'd stick full system on the gsxs and have it tuned.
Thanks Bikes of Rye, nice review. I am in the market presently. Test rides has been a challenge with global supply delays, weather and now a long lockdown. Where I live the GSX S1000 is stg 500 more than an MT09SP. Love to see a comparison vid. The MT09 is supposed to be torquey and quick but you mentioned below that you want more power. I am trading up from a CBR500R and am really not sure how much power is enough or too much. I ride around a city (Auckland NZ) and in the country; a mix of motorway, B roads with corners and real twisties, along the coast and over mountains. I ted to short shift and use torque around town and wind the little CB out over the hills. What are your thoughts? The Z900 is another alternative. The CB1000R look good and I am sure is excellent but is very expensive here down under. Some say better to have a smaller bike that you can thrash. Thoghts?
Hi Paul I have reviewed the latest 2021 MT09SP too - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-60AHPipB17g.html It is a cracking bike and plenty of poke for what you sound like you are looking for. Riding position is very relaxed for cutting up B roads but engine provides plenty of torque and sounds intoxicating too. The GSXS1000 I personally think looks prettier and yes it definitely has a bit more go but it isn't too much quicker. Either one will be a complete night and day difference over the CBR500R so honestly you wouldn't go wrong with either of them! Personally if it was me I would be more inclined to sit on the MT09SP because its a more natural progression.
@@BikesofRye Thanks, I will have a look at the review. I have ridden a GSX S750 and found it smooth and easy to ride. It actually weights 2 kg more and has a slightly higher seat than the litre bike. I was not phased by the extra power, although it did start really moving when the revs got up. Arguably all I need, albeit a bit dated. When I can I will definitely ride a MT09. I am just so tempted by the super bike capability of the GSX for only 500 pounds more than the SP. As I said probably the 750 is enough.... Thanks again
Go have a a ride on the z1000 or mt10 first although Yamaha haven’t yet released the new mt..but quick look on autotrader has 3 with 0 mileage.you know damn well you be bowled over by the sound of that with sc project on it 🤤😜
I had a 2019 model Don't be fooled by the power im no rossi and I could easily keep with more powerful bikes on the street brakes ok changing direction quickly takes effort handling ok try the s1000r its slightly bettering in everyway and doing good deals at minute
I should think a full system and tune should lighten the bike up and give it a good amount of extra power. I am going to check the s1000r out only I just don't know if I like the looks enough
@@BikesofRye same about looks but the bmw has all the bells and whistles and excellent dash if that's your thing the susuki is excellent value for money
I say in the vlog how I just don't think I could ride a supernaked properly yet... I would be just as quick on a gsxs1000 I reckon. But then my 765RS is probably just as quick too. But as always we can never only just own one bike
I would never trade in your striple for this bike. That tank looks awful for one. I wouldn't see this as an upgrade though. Even with a full exhaust that bike doesn't come close to the triple sound. When again, it's just my opinion. Knowing Suzuki it probably rides great.
The Street is just as good if not better to be fair.... but if I get the gsxs I'd be putting full system on it and having it properly tuned. Some less weight and significantly more power would be interesting
Afraid that Suzuki has no soul. It is a capable machine and if that’s all you want then fine, but it’s not a bike to get excited about riding. Think you would regret buying that after the 765. Now that bike has soul, not perfect by any means but that is what gives it real character and ultimately fun to ride😁
@@BikesofRye how about a 1290 superduke, bags of character, more power than you’ll ever need and a bike to excite you whenever you swing a leg over it.
its all down to rider ability at the end of the day whether its a 150 bhp GSXS1000 or a Superduke R with 173 bhp there all more capable than 99% of road riders this bhp nonsense on the road doesnt make a shite of difference
suzuki always sucked at marketing, and their bikes aint the prettiest, but they are the best value out there and their bikes are almost as reliable as a honda but usually with more hp,cant go wrong,I mean I like triumph bikes and wish I had one but I would not invest in one
I personally think Suzuki are not so invested in motorcycles as they could be. They keep it safe I think. Yes maybe they do also suck at marketing but recently they have been using social media influence to get there bikes out there
5.15 hehehehe 😆 sneaky little chuckle. Ok it’s £11000 but definitely not for me mate its cheap and it looks it imo. With a 16 year old engine I’d hope if i was spending 11 bags id have a little more tech. Me id buy something a couple years old with low miles and some gadgetry soz dude this is definitely a NO NO for me 👎🏻.
@@BikesofRye hey mate you gotta go with what floats your boat. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks dude it’s your money and you’ll be riding it. This was just my opinion mate i just think it’s cheap for a reason i would no way sell your TST RS for it but that’s just me buddy 👊🏻
3-4 minute listening your video you didnt talked anything about bike...such a waste todays videos and channels. Rather make video 4-5 minutes video straight to the point. Otherwise I'm gone like most of the viewers. Dislike.
