No, it's not fully redesigned yet, but Lexus promises to expect that model next year, along with a new 4Runner as well. Until then, those of you who must have this brand new old truck will at least enjoy the new 10.3" infotainment system. Would you spend $70k on this over something a lot more modern and car-like?

I’ve had the 22 Lexus GX 460 (luxury package) for 3 months now. Traded my 4Runner TRD PRO. I absolutely love this vehicle for many reasons. Made in Japan and built solid. V8 engine with plenty of power (no twin turbo’s for me.)Tows 1500 lbs more than the 4Runner. Very comfortable seats with a quiet excellent ride. Love the new high resolution infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay. I drove it across country over the Rocky Mts and averaged 21.5 mpg and this vehicle is all time 4WD. Consumer Reports rated the new Lexus GX 460 the #1 most reliable vehicle overall this year.

@@colinkennedy8523 I bought a 2022 GX for my parents. No regrets whatsoever! Great dealer experience. Undying reliability. No gimmicks. Far better option in my opinion than the counterparts from Mercedes, BMW, Audi which have newer tech but reliability is questionable at best. As an example, I have a 2015 MB S550 w/ ~55K miles (bought new) and a lot of the features (massage seats, blind spot, rear window shades) have stopped working. I still love the car as the powerplant is very stout but in hindsight I should have not weighed so heavily on the infotainment/features which become outdated in a span of 2-4 years. If you like the GX, its reliability, and the build quality - highly recommend it! You won't regret it.

Not worth the cost to be honest. Compared to electric vehicles this thing will cost almost $10k more every 5 years just to fuel it up. When you take that into account getting a similarly priced vehicle with better efficiency (not including better tech) will be much more cost effective (even when taking depreciation into account).
@TruthFLA
@TruthFLA 2 года назад
@@Kevin-cf8uu you are asumming a few things, the price if gas stays the same and you limit the scope to 5 years. This vehicle can last 30 years easily. Batteries have a limited life span. How much will it cost to replce the battery based on what we know now?
@Kevin-cf8uu
@Kevin-cf8uu 2 года назад
@@TruthFLA Well given the state of the world it wouldn't surprise me if gas prices keep going up and up for many years. And yeah I agree a battery will eventually need to be replaced (though it could be 10-15 years or longer from what others have said). Right now cost of basically everything is high. But I would bet the cost of battery replacement will come down over the next decade as more people switch to electric cars and more mechanics learn how to do the repairs outside of the manufacturers. So it'll get cheaper in the long run. If someone wants to ensure they'll be able to drive a car for 10 years I wouldn't recommend an electric car. Personally I'd sell those at year 5 when battery is still under warranty and the next buyer can get some decent use still.

People need to realize how quality these are built. I was just in a car accident in a pile up where the woman who drove one of these did not stop and ran into a Rav 4 in front of her. The Rav 4 was pushed into the car ahead of it another Rav 4 and that car ran into me. Both Rav 4 vehicles suffered major damage. Yet the Lexus who did the crashing barely had a mark on its bumper. Usually the car that makes impact has the most damage. Not here. With its transmission and engine, this can easily go 200k. These are the kinds of vehicles people pass down in wills.

Despite your Poo-Poo’ing nearly everything, these will sell like crazy. The engine is a normally aspirated V-8, which if the history of engines in all of time will last longer than a turbo/supercharged anything. It has Toyota’s long history of exceptional reliability. Bottom line, a car is a tool, it does a job. A car broken down in the boonies is just a box you can’t carry out. Everything you said is true, but some, like me, WANT ONE ANYWAY! 👍🏼😎 Great video as always, and please don’t take this the wrong way… you talking and your partner filming produces a slightly better video. You spending your hard earned money on a "2022" vehicle thats really not a 2022 vehicle, more like a 2014 but your paying brand new price tag. You be a fool to spend 70k on a vehicle that looks and drives like a 2014 truck. Get a used older model with low mileage and save $15-20k and since the GX is so outdated the older models are basically the same as new ones outside of very small differences thats not worth spending the extra cash

@@paladin3116 - I’m NOT arguing! LOL! He (Redline) and you are correct. I’m just saying that as someone who has bought a few cars, reliability MATTERS! To buy something that breaks down frequently but has a nice panoramic sunroof and big screen is idiocy, IMHO. I tow things occasionally and a few of my coworkers laughed at my old beater Tundra with a 10k tow rating, they swear by their Rams, Chevys or Fords. But each of their vehicles have 3x to 10x more downtime than my old Toyota. We had to relocate a bunch if cows (Cell sites On Wheels) after a hurricane from multiple markets to the affected area, every single one of them broke down at some point and my beater Tundra that they make fun of finished the job. You can fault Toyota for many things, but they WORK. You can buy your fancy car with the fancy toys, and enjoy the downtime. I’m just one of those people who like things that work. Cheers!

1) Your general critiques and nitpicks of this vehicle are just moot points. Wonder how much Hyundai/Genesis is paying you. The targeted audience for this truck is obviously older folks who buy it for long term, not to lease and then to hop onto another car. They don’t need the flashy technology. People buy Lexus to own because it gets the job done and could be dogged for 200k+ miles; and it has great resale price due to the engine reliability and brand. Why fix something that’s not broken? 2) As for the truck not being flashy, you could literally spend like $20 to $30 on Amazon for ambient lighting and spend a couple more for flashy seat covers. 3) The cargo room is abysmal, I give you that. Nonetheless, just drop the 3rd row seat down and store things. No one is going to sit comfortably back there anyways. 4) This truck is a beast of a car that could off-road and handle rough terrain and weather. It’s not meant to be sporty, it’s meant to be a mini truck of a car. 5) You do realize that The V8 allows this truck to drive at a high rpm without destroying its engine right? I’m assuming not because you criticized its 301 hp and praised other vehicles. Go ahead and break torque those v6 vehicles at a high rpm. You’ll end up yeeting them into a car mechanical shop.

High revving, high compression V-6 motors can be made to produce more hp than a V-8, but they don't last as long. I'll take the low revving V-8. Nothing sounds like 'em and they last forever. Next, it's a family vehicle, a luxury SUV. It's not a freaking race car, and 0-60 in 6.75sec is more than quick enough. I've owned land cruisers 40, 60 and 100 series, lived in the middle east, traveled parts of Africa and understand what the GX is more than many. I get it. It is a baby land cruiser. You can bury yourself in this vehicle because it will outlast you. You will find this vehicle (land cruiser 150) all over the world in the harshest of conditions. It is a Toyota of War and I love it...so I bought one last month. I'll just pass it down to a relative in my will, as a family heirloom.

I had a 2015 and just sold it to a dealer. With high gas prices and the classic style getting too old and other brands modernizing year after year, is very hard to make an argument for this vehicle other than loyalty. Toyota is overplaying that card!

It amazes me how some popular YT reviewers trash Lexus for being old and dated. I think it has less to do with the Toyo/Lexus brand and more to do with viewers stats and pulling eyes. Doesn’t Sofyan own a “boring” Toyota Rav 4 Prime? Informed and cost-benefit aware consumers tend to observe reliability, not chase the fastest new neon-colored rocket from one mode year to the next. Vehicles should be reliable and sound and of course, subjectively good looking.

I bought a new 2019 GX after watching your review of THAT one (which you equally hated). It's a dinosaur gas hog that gets me COMFORTABLY where I want to go, and it will go through anything. Bullet proof reliability with a FULL SIZE spare. Of course, you'd recommend a BMW because it's faster and has better technology. Included in that "better technology" is a bunch of unnecessary stuff that will crap out if you own it for a while. Also, what will crap out FAST are the run flat tires, i.e. "self-fulfilling prophecy" of running flat (w/o a spare). Sure, you can limp 50 miles, but what if you're farther from town than that? One more thing... When you buy something as reliable as the GX, and all of a sudden there's a CHIP SHORTAGE... and you can't buy new vehicles at all, and used vehicles are selling for more than new... It doesn't freaking matter! You can drive one of these for 25 years if you need to. You're not suddenly needing a vehicle in a RIDICULOUS market. For the life of me, I'll never understand why you always play down the ROCK SOLID RELIABILITY factor. That's a HUGE factor for many people. I guess you're still young enough that you don't mind WALKING.

The popularity and resale value of just about any vehicle that consumes a lot of fuel has always been directly linked to the price of fuel. If fuel prices stay high, sales and resale values will fall. If fuel prices return to where they were a year or two ago, the opposite will happen.

What a dinosaur! But a pretty one. Also, why would you want the gate to swing open from the passenger side? More often than not, the driver is going to be "solo" -- to me it makes more sense that the handle to open the back gate/door is on the driver's side. Same with the fuel caps -- THAT should be mandatory/regulated to be on the driver's side.

luxury trim really isnt needed if this will eventually become a family over lander. the air suspension is likely to fail. the off road package is not much, crawl control is an easy aftermarket add-on, as well as the transmission cooler, I guess the cameras are the only thing you would really be missing, I would still opt for the premium trim for this truck.
