I bought one of the first Sequoias back in 2000 and loved it so I kept it for 21 years when it was declared totaled because of an accident. Then I bought a Tesla Model Y, waiting on the Cybertruck. I can tell you with absolute certainty, Telsa is far far superior in every way but interior volume, which I did not need 95% of the time. IMHO, all ICE vehicles are dinosaurs - there is no going back for me.

Just when I was beginning to wonder if only the Capstone trim would be reviewed, Miles scores with the 2023 Sequoia in Limited trim. Always great to see lower trimmed versions of new vehicles, especially with window sticker shock at an all-time high. The new Sequoia is aimed at customers that may have to pick and choose features carefully if the goal is value per the competition. Rumor has it that the Sequoia was scheduled to be cancelled, but the truck team saved it by using the Tundra chassis to save money, see solid rear axle. Thanks Miles.

I'm glad they did save it, Edd! Toyota fans are already sore over the loss of the new Land Cruiser (in the U.S.), but at least the new Sequoia TRD helps soothe the pain

Interior and exterior design is best in class to me. However, the competition offers more 3rd row space and cargo volume. Plus you'll probably get better mpg from a diesel Tahoe or Yukon.

Great review. Curious about the silver trim in the interior and on the wheel, is it painted plastic, metallic laminate or actual metal? The painted plastic on the previous Tundra and Sequoia looked pretty cheap and didn't wear very well.

@@MilesPerHr That's a bummer. If Ford and GM can at least use real metal or at the very least, metal veneer, that's a huge miss for Toyota to use painted plastic. At least it's not everywhere, but it's still a miss.

Toyota almost nailed it. Cargo space for such a big SUV is really poor. I understand it's due to the battery placement underneath, Toyota should of came up with a better plan for more cargo space.

I don't know.. Looks ok I guess... Some things I don't like.. Don't like the digital speedo.. I love the traditional analog tacho and analog speedo. Also I don't like the black rectangle between the windshield and rear view mirror.. For a taller driver (like me), that takes away some very important windshield visibility. Unfortunately most auto makers are doing this.. And would rather have the natural aperated (non turbo) engine.

@MysteriousOklahoma so I have driven quite a few different makes/models. I have found equivalent longevity with my Jeeps as Toyotas. I detail so I see quite a few vehicles. There are some makes that hold up a bit better to time that Toyotas. They make solid vehicles for sure, but I’m just not a huge fan. Which I think is okay.

@MysteriousOklahoma oh yeah? I’ve had pretty good luck so far, but I am only about 60/40 or 70/30 on road to off road here in Utah, so I may have not been using mine as frequently off road like you did.
