The 2024 Genesis G70 Gets More Power Standard, But Otherwise The Changes Are Minor | 2024 G70 Review

If you want a new second-generation G70 you have some time to save your pennies because 2024 is a mild refresh with some exterior and interior tweaks and a new base engine. Aside from that, it's the same G70 you loved or hated before. The big deal for 2024 of course is the new base engine. It's a 2.5L four-cylinder turbo borrowed from the larger G80. Thanks to the larger displacement it's now one of the most power base engines in the segment at 300 HP and 311 lb-ft. Performance from the optional twin-turbo V6 is still better, but you might be surprised to hear that the V6 is unchanged. Yep, it's still the same 3.3L V6, not the newer 3.5L V6 from the G80 and G90. Why no upgrade? Genesis wouldn't say.

I do like the G70. I wish Genesis would have offered this with the size and liftback style of its former platform mate, the Stinger. The added room would make this vehicle more appealing….

Great review! I love my 2023 3.3 - for the money, the best choice. However, the seats are much firmer than I realized at first, and don't support my back as well as the Audi A5 or BMW. The G80 has better seats (still too firm - but less so). Also - regarding the dealer - I am next to a dedicated dealership. I am extremely impressed. As good or better than Audi and BMW.

They "look" comfortable seats, so interesting to read they can be problematic. Found BMW seats comfortable and well designed, but Volvo seats are awesome.

I have the 2023 3.3T RWD and am LOVING it. I'm coming from a 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia which I LOVED, but it proved unreliable from the getgo (I bought it new). I don't have the patience to deal with Euro cars and their electrical gremlins so I traded it in for the G70. I have driven this car cross country a few times and have put A LOT of miles on it in the past year, and it has been BULLETPROOF on top of being a joy to drive. The only small complaint I have is that the gas mileage while driving in the city is abysmal. But I rectified this by keeping it in Eco mode when I'm running errands and then putting it in Sport when I need to get on the freeway. I also get as many compliments on this car as I did the Alfa; they nailed the styling when they did the '22 refresh.

any new car will be bulletproof in its first years of ownership, especially the first year. Only a complete piece of shit would have issues during that period. So its not a very reliable indicator of long term reliability on this car. But time will tell.

Nice review. I was actually looking at the Lexus IS (but no power folding mirrors, no trunk release button on the trunk and no sunglass compartment up by the dome lites). Now proud owner of a 2.5 sport prestige in the Makalu grey. It has the red stitching but not the quilted pattern the 3.3 has.

Really thinking about getting a G70 as it’s more affordable than the m340i which is my top pick. I lease a 2021 TLX SHAWD and the 2.5 turbo my car has always leaves me wanting more power. That’s why I am really interested in the G70 3.3, but it would be a much higher monthly compared to the 2.5. So I can’t decide. What should I do?

Beautiful car inside and out. I really love everything they did with this car. The 3.5TT would have been nice but I didn’t expect them to do it since they only care about EVs now at Genesis. I would definitely buy this over the competition for its great price and rwd dynamics. I also love the concierge service Genesis provides where you never have to go to the dealership unlike other luxury cars.

BMW's twin turbo V8, with 155 more hp, in the much larger and heavier M550i gets the same mpg than Hyundai's G70 3.3t V6 AWD. Both get 17 city and 25 highway. Hyundai's abysmal gas mileage blows my mind.

The IS is ancient and boring to drive not to mention very slow minus the 500 albeit the 500 is overpriced. The es is just a gussied up Camry. @ilyarepin7750
@ilyarepin7750 4 месяца назад
what do you mean ancient? thats what makes it reliable. It could use more interior bells and whistles but otherwise its a fantastic car. "boring to drive" is also relative. Not everyone is trying to hoon their car. Some people want a luxurious and soft ride without road noise and to be able to hit the gas pedal and go. 5.5 seconds 0-60 may be slow compared to a bmw or g70 getting there at 3.5 seconds, but in absolute terms its not slow at all. Most people have probably never even driven a car that fast, let alone need such acceleration in their day to day life. 5.5seconds to get to 60mph is enough for 99.99999% of every day uses.

I have a 2022 and absolutely love this car....i ended up getting the 4 banger because i bought a used 2018 Lincoln MKZ about 18 months before the G70. The MKZ has 400/400...so i already have the power crave taken care of. They were literally giving those Lincolns and Fusions away before Biden killed the economy. The Lincoln only had 31k miles, was in near perfect shape and even had new car smell. I know the MKZ is more in comparison to yhe G80, but just to compare i would say my MKZ has the edge over driving dynamics. Steering is slightly more precise, gives you a better sense of cornering, and the power is crazy for a luxury car. I get people all the time with this car, could have won a lot of money. The cabin is superior in the G70...except for the sound system. But the materials in yhe G70 feel much more premium, its quieter in the G70 and just feels like a better built vehicle. I love both vehicles and as i said, to get that Lincoln for 20k for the low miles and what it offers, makes it that much better. Tech is far superior in the G70 as well. Overall, the Genesis is the better car....but im definitely keeping the MKZ.

No way this car is 4.2 seconds 0-60; I had a 2019 3.3 and it was more like 4.7 or 4.8 give or take. Not really that fast (against it's 6 cyl competition). Having owned one for 3 years, my advice would be to get the 2.5 liter, 300 hp, it is a cracking engine, the 3.3 is not really worth it; plus - and nobody mentions this - the 3.3 requires spark plugs every 60 + you'll need to get the heads walnut blasted since it's just DI. That is $$$ on this car. The 2.5 is BOTH port and direct-injected, and ergo proctor hoc, they entire cylinder stays clean, no nasty buildup like DI. Eg, if you use top tier gas and run cleaners like seafoam every once in a while, you should be good to go. Not so with the 3.3. Service and cleaning on the 3.3 is money. IKFE.
