I agree. In 2021 I financed a 2022 Buick Enclave. I wanted to stay with GMC as I was looking to upgrade from my GMC Terrain to the Acadia. But, it was too small, so I settled with the Buick Enclave which is a great fit for my family. I wanted a full panoramic sunroof but it’s not offered in the Buick Enclave. I’m interested in getting this for my next vehicle!! Good job GMC!
Apparently the reason why many automakers exclude the bench seat on higher trims is all due to packaging. Because there are more stuff in the higher trims, they cut out the bench seat to captains chairs to help reduce weight making similar fuel economy numbers require to meet any regulations or targets.
GMC probably felt by making the Acadia more car like it would appeal to buyers. I don’t think they saw the 3 row midsize segment blowing up the way it did.
Yes! The reason I'm still driving my 2015; however I had to replace the transmission and AC at around 72,000 miles 💸😡 I got my eye on Nissan Pathfinder, mainly for reliability.
This is really gorgeous. I hope Ford is watching - especially on their interiors. Jeep did it, now GM, of course you had Kia and Hyundai. Now they have to step up their Explorer.
Very nice update over the current generation. The rear reminds me somewhat of a Honda Pilot, but overall, I think GM has performed a tastefuk redesign. The infotainment and electronics look very top tier for the class as well. My only guess is that pricing will likely increase.
@@2quick2comeHonda is pulling out of deal. Honda received tons of hate mail from customers saying they will leave Honda if they let GM build their vehicles. Honda owners want longevity.
If they’re making money while doing what they do, they won’t change it. That includes unreliability. Every automaker knows VERY well how to make a car that lasts without breaking. There is a reason they won’t. Although I do wish they were more reliable….
Why do you think they’ve simplified the powerplant and its shared in both vehicles? They’ve spent a lot of time with this motor and its cousin 2.7T has been very reliable in both the Silverado and the CT4-V.
Nice first review. I don’t understand why GM is reducing the size of the third row window. I took a trip in the full size 2023 GMC Denali and sat in the third row a good portion of the trip. Plenty of leg room and quite, but there was not enough third row window area to look at the landscape. Seems to be the same on all new GM SUV’s. The Nissan Pathfinder still has them beat for towing (6000 vs 5000 lbs).
As far as towing goes, remember it's now a turbo 4, and likely weighs considerably more than the outgoing model. Meanwhile only the Pilot and the Pathfinder offer a 3 person second row in the top trim, but the Pathfinder's will let you slide fore and aft for all 3. Every other entrant forces the captain's chairs on you.
Styling. Acadia's rear side profile in particular reminds of the Pilot but even smaller window. Pretty aggravating though isn't it? They're making you rely more and more on cameras and electronic sensors for "visibility."
@@chiemekaa I'm glad you brought up the seating. It often gets washed over in reviews. Pretty aggravating and chronic in the industry. Just because you want the other features of the top trim(s) doesn't necessarily mean you want the captains chairs. And of course, the vice versa is true as well, just because you need/want a second row bench doesn't mean you don't want the top trim features.
Well I have its shorter wheelbase sibling , XT5 2.0L and so far so good. The engine doesn’t seem stressed at all and handles the weight of the vehicle just fine. Though I would not buy a first year redesign. I would wait a bit to let them work out the recalls and new engine proves itself. But as for the engine it seems like a larger version of the 2.0L Turbo which has been pretty decent.
Alex, you forgot all about the Pathfinder when talking about how the 2nd row seats flip forward. One of the reasons I bought the Pathfinder over over 3 row vehicles.
Let's hope the new transmission is more durable than the last one. My friend bought 2 of the previous Arcadia, one SLT and one AT4 and both had their transmissions disintegrate before 30k miles. GM bought back the SLT and he's battling to get them to buy back the AT4. Over the last 3 years he has spent almost as much time behind the wheel of a rental than his own car and became so frustrated with the experience he's shopping at Toyota, Nissan, or Mazda for a replacement after being a lifelong GM fan.
Family has a 2019 Acadia and the Transmission has been performing fine for us. We have more miles on it to. There was also the issue for some where the type of Transmission fluid was causing harsh shifts but that was also rectified.
No. Main header comes off from the manifold then splits into two. Then the two splits into another two as an exit pipe. It should reduce noise but was not really necessary.
Looks like a Cherokee from the rear three-quarter angle. Interior is significantly improved. Would have been nice to see the Acadia continue to be a competitor to the Highlander, Santa Fe, and Sorento though.
Great first look! I was not expecting too much from this, but I have to say I'm impressed! And I really *love* that CarPlay works on the MID as well as the infotainment screen! Excellent! (Does the Traverse boast this capability?) With a portrait display, I was hoping that the HVAC vents wouldn't be knuckle numbers, that is to say I wish they were higher up on the dash so the vents could blow on my face. As for price, I sure hope it's less expensive than the Jeep - I'll be super interested to hear how Lexus prices the TX, which I hope they release at the drive event in late September/early October (?)
This makes sense because I have a feeling the XT6 is going bye, bye so the Enclave & Acadia will be GMs premium 3 row offerings that compete with the luxury side while the Traverse will be the more mainstream (less premium) version like before the XT6 existed.
One underated feature that is now a must on my purchase checkbox is an open spoke steering wheel bottom. This provides a lower & more comfortable grab point during rest or cruising speed. Anyone who drives a truck or long distance understands this.
I think the Denali versions interior looks less upscale than it does in the GMC Canyon. Also, it would been nice if they used the Canyons 2.7L engine as well. 430 pound feet of torque would have let the Acadia to stand out better from the competition and the Chevy Traverse.
This Vehicle does not need paddle shifters, it does need a second row heated bench option to carry an additional passenger. Also front side markers lights like those found on the Yukon would improve safety and overall exterior appearance. Save money and eliminate the quad exhaust tips and replacement with circular chrome tips. Great Looking Vehicle!
This is only showing how dated the Cadillac XT6 is at this point. That car has a pitiful intro for their asking price compared to this and several other options. Great job GM they’re definitely on a roll with their new interiors and design 👏
@@naveenthemachine 😂LEXUS rx and tx have world class extremely luxurious interiors plus more .overall better than gv80 mdx and more. Get a life serial toyota/ lexus hater.
Alex, I think the marketers/propagandists at GMC would be happier if you compare this 'Denali' to a Lexus TX rather than a mere Grand Highlander . 😉 BTW I wonder how often the word Denali is mistyped as Denial. 🤣
Because the interior is closer to Lexus than Toyota. The grand highlander has a horrid interior vs the competition And the Lexus TX doesn’t have a better interior. All the competition even the cheaper ones put the tx to shame without even trying
@@naveenthemachinethe interior is closer to Lexus but you say the Lexus doesn’t have a better interior? But the Denali is closer to luxury? All seems contradictory..
They did a great job of differentiating the trims. I like the AT4 a lot, I can't wait to see what it packs compared to Grand Cherokee, especially being FWD.
Reliability doesn’t make a car better. It’s about the looks, comfort, luxury, build quality, materials, fit finish, tech, features, interior space, driving experience etc Reliability isn’t really important these days
@@naveenthemachine Reliability is important to me. I don’t like going to the dealer with weird problems. Or things breaking right after the warranty is over. 🙄
This is surprisingly really nice looking. If they give it ambient lighting and it's not too far above $50k in denali trim, this will definitely go in my consideration set.
@@shinedownflyI mean we'll see. I don't think they can sell them at that. Maybe they can but when top trim of palisade is 53 all in, I don't recall what the grand highlander is but it's under 60 without the hybrid drivetrain. I just built a 23 on their website with the 2 liter engine for 58. I could see getting that for 55 at a dealer. That's close enough.
I will say that I find the redesigned Traverse to be a better looking model. I think the chevy style headlights work better on a crossover than GM's. And yeah, as other have noted the taillights do look very Honda Pilot-esque. Not a bad thing though, the rear looks good
@@naveenthemachine I’m not surprised by that there are more Cadillac dealers than Lincoln. But American luxury has been struggling for a while now. The Escalade and the Navigator are keeping them relevant and afloat.
Forget about the reliability, that infotainment system is really good, it’s so snappy without delay, no wonder GM claims you don’t necessarily need Apple CarPlay.
I have a few questions. Is this an existing and proven engine? How does this now compare to the Traverse and the Pathfinder in the family friendly features for moving people and luggage around? Is there an option for 2nd row bench (3 seats)?
Yes, it is slightly shrunken 2.5L version of the 2.7L turbo engine that's been powering the Silverado for a few years and now also the Canyon/Colorado. I believe this new 2.5L is the first FWD application, and is probably maximized for a bit better MPG than the pickups.
I had to make a second comment after learning this shares some with the lyriq. There goes that “lyriq only controls “ statement 😂😂. The lyriq is hardly in driveways yet and it already has its parts starting to pop up in the General Motors lineup. Gosh.
I agree. Let GMC be the premium brand their customers are demanding them to be and let the folks who are unsure if the upscale touches are worth the extra go split hairs at the Chevrolet dealership where they welcome negotiations and are known to work with customers.
Wow looks 💯 better and I’m glad it’s bigger! I’m leaning more towards the AT4 for looks . Interior looks amazing! Hopefully that new engine will be reliable.
This is a beautiful SUV. Especially in the Denali trim. However, the outgoing model has grown on me. As much as many people balk about it's smaller size it's perfect for my needs. And it's quite a pretty vehicle in the Denali trim as well. They need more "medium sized" suv's to fill the niche. And i believe the outgoing model 2023 and older did just that. This will be a behemoth now and difficult to park.
Looks good, but i can't help and compare this to the palisade. It appears that Hyundai is still winning when it comes to interior spaces. I'd like to see how this drives.
The new Acadia is back to its original size when it first came out. I really worry about long term quality. The Acadia's I had were terrible for dependability. I'm sticking with Toyota.
Hi, Alex, I haven't watched the previous generation GMC Acadia Denali but both Acadia and at4 look great and big also I like the infotainment system looks elegant flanked with between AC vents looks beautiful however seats are very comfortable 2.5L turbo inline fours making 328 hp and 326 pound-feet torque and at4 goes off-road to all-terrain thanks
So on the GM products with Google Built In, when you're in the native Maps function with a data plan (not via CarPlay or AA) is there a setting to switch over to satellite view? I've seen that on the Honda Accord but I've not seen it yet on any review of a GM product.
I think GM is avoiding sat view to speed up the loading of the maps and keeping menus easy and quick to go through. Something like a Sat view could slow down loading things.
This takes from a un competitive vehicle to maybe makes your shopping list. That said even with pricing being a secret I thing the Grand highlander and TX are the vehicles to beat. They have the powertrain flexibility that no other model can match.
A+ for that dash layout. The small column shifter is the only way to go. I’ve never understood the big lever in the center taking up tons of unnecessary space. That screen is well integrated compared to most Toyotas where a big iPad was just glued to the dash. Looks like trash.
I'm seeing a trend at GM, the 2.7L being used as a universal powerplant in a variety of models. I wonder if it's the exact same engine as in the Colorado/Canyon just tuned differently...?
This is a 2.5t, but it's based off the 2.7t. The 2.7t is for RWD/AWD/4WD applications. While the 2.5t is for FWD/AWD applications. Both are effectively replacing the 3.6 na v6. Which was a universal engine.
Very nice! Im digging that AT4 Acadia. 7 seat is the perfect choice for a small growing family. My choice of interior color would be dark brown leather heated/ventilated. I love my 2018 Traverse 3LT and have no plan on getting a new vehicle. It will be my baby for the next 10 or 20 years. With the cost of living expenses going up and up, I just don't see any real value in getting another vehicle at this point.
Can someone tell me why manufacturers are switching to four cylinder turbos over V6 when they really don't get better economy? Is is that four bangers are just cheaper to make?
Cheaper and lighter mainly, plus they can stretch them across their entire lineup without having to make different drivetrains per vehicle. A lot of new Turbo I4s are basically on par or faster than what normal people are used to anyways.
When entering a freeway I usually need to punch it a bit. I had a rental car that Fishtailed all over the place with front wheel drive. Could this be an issue with the new GMC Acadia Denali?
