The 2024 Mustang GT is a solid car but is it a good daily driver?

@@CarsWithSteve dealer told me anywhere from 3-6 months is what they’ve been seeing. I’m on day 17 of 45 to get on the production schedule haha but I’m in no rush to get it, gives me more time to save $ and pay off more of it upfront

Love your reviews when it comes to Mustangs. I daily drive my GT and I got caught in that big snowstorm that happened in Toronto this past year and it was quite scary. I must note that snow builds up at the front bumper and it blocks the pre-collision sensor which deactivates the function until you clear the blockage.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
Thank you! Just the Mustang ones though ;) I figured that sensor would be trouble with snow as well. Do you throw on snow tires and extra weight in the trunk during the winter?

@@CarsWithSteveI’m bias because I own one 😂. I do enjoy all your reviews though! I run 19” rims with Michelin x ice snows with no weight in the trunk. I may add weight next winter though.

A sweet and thorough, good-natured, informative review about a car I seriously am thinking of buying for daily driving and occasional bahn-burning in Australia. I drove an '85 GT for a couple of years half a lifetime ago in California so know EXACTLY the thrill you're getting when you stomp it up through 1st and 2nd gears... although it's clearly even faster than it used to be according to the new specs. A lot of ca$h to drop on a car but then again we only live once and everyone I've seen review it plants their foot and laughs and smiles in the little-kid way my middle-aged self could dearly do with.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
Thank you! It's just a touch faster than the old '85 you had with a bit more tech... but still just as fun. If it's in the budget.. like you said.. we only live once. You can always make more money but you can't make more time

@@CarsWithSteve "But you can't make more time" is precisely where my head and heart is at, and your comparo with my '85 from college days is very reassuring. Subscribed, good sir! I once again need to keep up with the North American car market now Australia, sadly, no longer makes its own.

I completely agree with you about the Recaro seats, @CarsWithSteve. Recaro would probably say that heated & ventilated seats, let alone massage seats, add weight, and therefore reduce the performance of a car intended to go compete on track days. I can't argue with that logic. But this not the 1990s. I would assume some weight savings have been built in seat technology these days. And even there is no appreciable weight savings for heated/ventilated/massage seats to be realized, how often is a car going to be on the track, versus serving commute functions or weekend road trips? I know I'd prefer my car to be equipped for the use I'm going to put it to most often.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
Bang on with the weight.. it won't be much added weight but there should be an option to go with or without the heated/ventilated Recaro seats. I was just in the Ioniq 5 N and it had Recaro style with that feature!

Ford really screwed owners who buy a 24' GT that does not have the Perf Pack. The only models that have the oil cooler is the Darkhorse and GT with Perf Pack. When one does simple and or hard pulls the oil temp raises to very high levels and that's engine breakdown waiting to happen. The fix is going back to dealer to get OEM oil cooler installed for approx $140 parts plus labor.
@CarsWithSteve

I think the only thing you will lose in daily driving of the Ecoboost over the GT (aside from a manual) is the sound. The GT is so powerful you won't really use that power very often. I found on my Ecoboost (2019) that running premium was worth it, more power, a livelier feel and better fuel economy to boot. You take about a 10% hit on the power numbers using regular gas (270 hp vrs 310). Can you live with a Mustang daily? I think so! If I didn't need the ability to tow I would still have mine. Loved it. Currently I am in a 2022 Explorer ST Line. I drove my Ecoboost all year, with a forward facing child seat in the rear behind the passenger seat. The snow mode was a handy feature. But almost all the vehicles I have owned have been rear wheel drive. One of the mechanics at the dealership actually took a picture of the child seat in my backseat to show his wife they fit. He even came out and talked to me. I like the Grabber blue, and couldn't get one in Velocity Blue, mine was Kona Blue also a really nice colour.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
You're bang on.. there's no duplicating that sound. Actually being able to open up the GT was so fun. Hilarious about the child seat in the back, I have a buddy who did the same thing until he had a 3rd and had to upgrade to something bigger. That's another +1 for using a premium fuel instead. Are you driving it in the winter time as well?!
@louism8217
@louism8217 Месяц назад
@CarsWithSteve I did while I had it. And I'm 15 min from Goderich, so when we get snow, we really get it. But it was fine in the snow actually I had a set of Michelin X ICE snows on it, and made use of the snow mode when the roads were dicey. Completely doable, at least with the 10spd auto.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
Ah I forgot that you're Canadian as well! I've been planning a day trip out that way and most likely looking at a stop over in Tobermory again. Great call on the X Ice for this car. Do you drop extra weight in the trunk during the winter as well?
@louism8217
@louism8217 Месяц назад
@CarsWithSteve nope, never! The drive modes worked perfectly with the winters when the road was poor, and once it got bad enough I wouldn't drive, we'll no one should really be on the road unless absolutely necessary! I am definitely a seasoned rear wheel drive winter driving guy.

@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
What is it about the 550 vs the 650 that still has you sold on it?
@mat13174
@mat13174 Месяц назад
@@CarsWithSteve I like the styling of the S550 better. I can’t get over the rear on the new ones. I am not a fan of the screens (especially the split ones on the lower spec cars). Everything including the climate controls are incorporated into the screens which would be a nightmare if the screen went down for some reason. The dash just looks generic. Looking at it you wouldn’t know it’s from a mustang. The S550 had the dual cowl dash which is more in line with mustangs of the past. I know manuals don’t sell, but they took the option away from the ecoboost. So a person who can’t afford to go for the GT is forced to go automatic, which although is faster, does not provide the same experience as the manual. Plus, I know this is true across the board when it comes to inflation, but I don’t think the changes that were made justify such a significant price bump. To me it’s generation 6.5, not 7 and really not the “accessible pony” car that it used to be
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
You nailed all the gripes I had about the S650 when it was first released as well. I was a fan of the digital cluster in the S550 but it was wrapped nicely vs just this dual screen setup. The lack of a manual in the EcoBoost was an odd decision too but I guess the manual just wasn't selling enough to justify it. The lack of paddles outside of the HPP still doesn't make sense to me At least you were able to snag one of the S550s and are enjoying the ride! Have you had a chance to get on any good drives so far this year?

@@CarsWithSteve as much as I’m a “True blue” Mustang guy, and always have been, I think the discontinuation of the Camaro and Challenger is a bad thing. Competition breeds innovation, and without it where is the incentive to move the needle forward?. Thus, pricing will continue to rise to the point where the average person will be priced out of a model. This from a car that from inception was designed to be attainable to just about everyone. Yes, I’m glad I got the 21 when I did. A base GT now costs what I paid out the door for a well equipped 401a package car with some additional goodies like the active exhaust and B&O system. I’ve kept the mileage low on it. I take it to events around the area, and actually placed third at the Carlisle Ford Nationals in the stock class this year. It’s a fun car for sure, one that I hope to have for a very long time.

@CarsWithSteve Месяц назад
Must have been exciting placing for a stock competition coming from that old fox body! Good point about the Dodge discontinuation, there really aren't any other cars in this category now. I'm curious to see what the future of the Mustang is going to look like, especially if Ford does eventually get rid of ICE and shifts fully to EV
