I am OLD !! I be 70 this fall. The concept and execution of this documentary is completely excellent. I have up to this evening heard of just only a few of the bands mentioned. The bass player shreds !!! His left hand rules the world. He erudite and loves his craft. I wanna say more , but I keep these cudos from blowing up too much. We missed John Doe from X , Novoselic from Nerdvana , and my daughter in the Pissies , Sarah Paz Dorothy .
You have a great ear, dude. I've never seen your your face, but you seem pretty young to me. I'm super stoked that your super stoked on all these old bands. It's so hard to spread the word, but kids should know this stuff. Punk was a movement, and a lifestyle. It's really just a feeling. And you're totally feeling it. Nice work bro. You slay.
I'm glad you included my suggestion of Jim Cherry from Strung Out. He was an absolute legend♥️ (Would have been cool if you mentioned his replacement Chris Aiken as he is just as great)
Great list and playing!! I found it super cool that you included Minutemen, Nomeansno and Fugazi, their songs have such great basslines. I also enjoyed that your picks were based on style and musicality and not solely on technique.
I've only lost feeling in my thumbs and it makes it a hundred times harder to play bass, can't imagine how hard it must be for you. Hope you can find some way of getting around the numbness mate.
I’m very surprised that Jesse F Keeler from DFA 1979 is never mentioned in any of your videos. Happy to see Alvarez and Lombardo are so high in the list.
You're sleeping on Steve Youth (7 Seconds) Check out the track titled "Shizzy". Steve Youth was great. Also, you seem to dig Rancid.. I'm curious. Why no "Rejected" bass lines? That bass line is top shelf Matt Freeman. I really dig the way you film, I can actually see what you're doing. I'd love to see a rejected cover so I can finally figure out that first portion. Even watching Matt play it I just can't figure the damn thing out.
Hey man, I may have missed it but have you ever done just a best of ska punk bassists? (Matt Wong, Eric Wilson, Joe Gittleman and many others were/are awesome. Would love to see what you come up with!
Someone should just bug lil joe until he makes a tab book for all of rkl's basslines Their so disgustingly good yet noone seems to know how to play them properly.
The fucking bass line for John Wayne...... Classic. I forgot his name.. the whole band kicked ass on that album... After that it was who ever wants to play, is the new bassist..
I was going to have words about Peter Hook being Honorable Mention. However, neither JD or NO are punk bands. But his bass playing is recognizable on its own merits. Thank you for including Jean Jacques from The Stranglers and of course Paul Simonon, but Captain Sensible as Honorable Mention??? I disagree. Also Tessa Pollitt from The Slits not making the cut is an oversight.
This list is horrible. Can't believe I say through the whole thing. So pop punk and college radio trash is considered punk to you but not hardcore punk??? That's where the real bassists are. Half of these bands aint real punk.
