Every time I see essential paints list no one ever says Scale75 metallics so I am so glad you guys mentioned these. I am never using another brand for metallics. Amazing coverage and they have a range that can match any true metallic you could ever possibly need. Black metal and Thrash Metal is my new favorite silvers. I love using Decayed Metal and Peridot Alchemy together and combining them to cover everything from brass to gold.
Everyone is so obsessed with Vallejo Metal Air - I have four of them and although I love the pigmentation, they are so runny that I find controlling them with a brush very difficult. They act more like a nmetal wash... are Scale 75 metals more viscous?
That was a full 3 course podcast thanks all. I really enjoy all your content and your varied opinions and experiences. I just get so much painted while your show is playing. As a question/segment how about lessons learned from times things went wrong? I learn more from people's fails than their perfect scenarios sometimes.
Cheers mate! So glad you enjoyed it. What are you painting at the moment? We've touched on failure and the lessons it can bring previously but maybe a more in depth discussion can be had!
I’ve dropped bottled these.. George: 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 😂 Looove the longer episode 🤘🏼 I usually paint while listening but today I was taking pics of completed minis 📸
The Paints Tope three: Vallejo 70.950 Black or GoldenSoFLat Black (Struggling now). Kimera Color The Red, Scale75 Black Metal Honorable Mentions: ProAcryl BlueBlack The Brushes: #2 and #0 Honorable Mention: Drybrush (Artis Opis or Army Painter) mostly for stippling.
I've had a love/hate relationship with Rhinox Hide. As basecoat I hate it. I thought once I bought Vortex Lab Mixer I would like it more as a base but it's just janky for me. On the other hand, RECESS SHADING....now it's awesome from my experience.
Darkstar Molten Metals: Blackened Bronze, base for yellow metallics. Regency Gold for Chaos Marines, Royal Gold for Loyalist. Agree on the black, but Instar Paints Pure Black with a drop or two of Matte+ will be just as matt if not more so. Not a paint as such, but Instar's Water+ is a must have! We painted for many years before a Wet Palette so gotta go with the lamp. Hobby Hack: Put your super glue in the fridge when you aren't using it, it will last longer
Have you guys tried out the Golden Soflat paints ? They have the best matt black paint I've ever used even compared to Vallejo. But the whole range is fantastic. Great episode. Glad they are going to be longer :D
Follow up on the loctite super glue reccomendation? Also, i'm sorry but you're a monitor 2 podcast but thats because I have to do work on my 1st monitor. 1hr- 1h:30 is good for me, it's more about the segment lengths, keeping a flow of the conversation, otherwise a 3h podcast would become general background noise. You guys hit the segment lengths perfectly, the conversation is always moving in a direction.
I cant imagine changing from Vallejo Metal Color metallics except the gold, as I use Dwarven Gold, but i really can't live without VMC Steel. Aluminum, Dark Aluminum, and Chrome. Edit: I forgot VMC Copper!
this comes from a noob : When it comes to brush tip dry on smaller size or just regular size brush but with small amounts of paint. Can't you just thin the paint with paint retarder ? Like Vallejo has flow improver for their airbrush range but there is no reason it shouldn't work for brush application aswell. Is there something I'm missing ? obviously you mix the reatrder into the paint first and then smaller amounts of water for the dilution you are after.
idk if you did it already but maybe you can talk about how you got into the hobby and what you hope to do in the future,, also getting on other guests too, artists with different approaches to you or similar... thanks lads
2004ish I was in a scale modelling group building 1/35 tanks. The mind prosess of mixing your own oilpaint wash and apply it (first time)was a major operation. I would say it was equal to woman about getting their first child. The amount of discussion, mailing and phone calls. Hours! Then after like 2-4 weeks(no joke) one would show up. BAAM!!! theres the panzerkampfwagen IV H with burnt umbra/black oil wash all over. -OH its a beauty! Hand shakes and Ciguars all around. Good show, gents. I like the longer versions alot more. Keep it up.
So funny that James, who obviously an epic mini painter picks Vallejo Black. I really can’t stand this paint. I suppose if you were painting a darker, rocky terrain, it’d be good, but it’s more of a super matte grayish-black paint, and not so much a true black paint. I love Pro Acryl’s black as it’s much more of a true black paint, with great coverage.
When a list is made, I get that you want us to actually watch the video, so maybe you can just put a subtitle on the screen? I’m a dense Yank so sometimes it’s hard to understand what y’all are saying.
