Im an older collector. At one time not my words i was told this by a card shop owner in my area at the time St. Augie flordia. I had the 3rd most expensive collection owned privately by a non seller. My take on cards and the hobby. If you cannot buy ot twice do NOT buy it once. I spent way too much money loved the hobby im getting back into it now. Just be wise about it. Have fun and hope you all get the big pulls.

Just stumbled upon your channel a couple days ago and I'm loving your takes. This video speaks so much truth. I never really bought sealed from big box stores, but I used to spend thousands at my LGS cracking sealed with no purpose (it was fun i guess lol). But over time I moved strictly to collecting raw singles that I cherish and master setting with my budget being 2 etbs and a booster bundle per set. You are so right on the money about card conventions. they can be hit or miss, but my personal piece of advice is to find card shows that are hosted in small towns because that's where I find the best deals. At bigger card shows in bigger cities it's a lot more business oriented with people "trading at 70% market value when i'll give you mine at 100%" using the LGS mentality, while smaller town shows are a lot more hobby oriented and people doing it out of the joy of the hobby. Thanks so much for reaching out! It’s crazy the things you see and hear while at these shows. Getting incredible deals are almost an afterthought. It gives you really good perspective about just how many cards get printed and how not rare, “rare” cards are. Makes it harder to buy packs knowing how easily you can buy the card at a show. The small town show theory seems intriguing 🤔

@@yousufgoni9479 1. My LGS gives me a better deal on ETBS. 2. from personal experience, i've pulled way better on ETBS and bundles than I have on actual boxes. I also enjoy keeping the empty ETBS as collection and the recent paradox sets have had 2 different artworks per etb. Spare etbs I just use for bulk storage for when I need to sell it off at regionals.

@@yousufgoni9479 didn’t realize I mentioned anything about type of sealed product. But I do usually buy products that have promo cards, mainly because I have a LGS that sells 3-pack blisters for $10. And I’m a sucker for hording worthless promos. But any SV era booster box you can get for like $100-$110 is your best deal per pack

Good advice man! That’s exactly how I started out buying boxes, etb, booster bundles at local stores, didn’t get a quarter of worth in pulls that I put into it. So I just started buying singles and slabs of eBay and my local card shop. Got great deals and built relationships with my local card store owners!

Good video, definitely has some great advice. I don't have local card shops but I buy from card shops online. I sell my bulk and duplicate hits, but I definitely need to get to the budgeting stage lol! Just having too much fun ripping packs right now.

I’m between 2 and 3. I’m starting to hunt more for 10 contenders at my local card shop both for my pc and to sell. The only place to get them is in person. Even with all the pictures, buying online is a gamble.

It’s really exciting finding even $2-$6 cards in that condition. I got soo many trainer gallery cards yellow & black boarder that were all soo cheap. But look soo good. And those are tough grades too.

I’d truly love to support my local card shop as i just moved to miami area. But I got back home to only notice the sad little guy stole both my reverse holo stamped EX team rocket returns Sandshrew and Dark Sandslash. I guess it’s my fault not being on top of my things but I was just trying to be nice with the guy he asked to look at my cards though I knew he wasn’t going to buy as I looked at his products. Live and learn I guess 🤷🏾‍♂️ but I go to the next town over now that has a GREAT card store with a great crew. Love the video bro!

I’d say 5 years, 10 if you really don’t mind holding and letting value just keep going up but 5 is a solid amount of time to gain great values and returns for booster box cases.

If the average income pokemon card collector replicates what he does, they will have lots less money and tons of bulk. That’s not ideal for anyone in any situation. It works for him because he makes content. Again, love him and his videos. Just stating that you shouldn’t strictly do that if your goal is to grow a collection.
