I've been meaning to break down the Fangio Cover 6 for a while now and with the 9ers playing it to near perfection, I thought this would be the best time. Sorry this one was late, there was a lot of graphics to make. Guess the 49ers record Down Below ⬇⬇⬇
i think the 49ers will be 11-6, or 12-5, i love their defense but sometimes the offense just cant deliver. not saying its bad ofc, offense is insane but like in the broncos game, they can sell.
@@ThinkingFootball if only my broncos werent so disfuncional, either way i need some answers on our O. Also loving the bet slips you been putting up too - keep up the good work brother.
Nick Bosa is an absolute beast. On Monday against the Rams, he had 2 sacks but he was at least partly responsible for most of the 7 that the team had. If you watch each of the plays, you can see Stafford watching Bosa, or seeing Bosa come off the edge and react instinctively by moving away from Bosa directly into another 49ers player who he never saw. He is so good, he generates plays for his teammates as a byproduct of his own greatness. He's not a sack machine, he's a sack factory.
@@AdrianGarcia-ww1ik startd with the SINGLETARY years and then Harbaugh took over the roster he made and tweaked it to his liking. Sucks that it tookl Jim Harbaugh to make Alex Smith wake up otherwise Singletary wouldve had a Chip.
@@strawsparky33 that man’s team drafted the pieces, but couldn’t make the cake come out the way it should have been. Their defenses were middle of the pack during his time too. Old Harbaugh’s team did though.
They could’ve paid DeForest & got rid of Armstead but decided to pay Armstead and draft Kinlaw to replace DeFo. He hasn’t panned out & with both of them injured right now it looks like a horrible trade. But getting Nick Bosa was the best pick in the last 20 years for this franchise so they’ll hang their head on that, but they really screwed up with that one.
This defense can easily be legendary. They are so fast, Bosa and Armstead are in lockable 1 on 1, Ward and Moseley are very underrated corners, Hufanga is gonna be a special safety and Jimmie Ward is very underrated. They also have a trio of LBs led by Fred Warner who I believe is the best coverage LB
@@mohammedtalim7943 You would think that'd be the case or does Shanahan have someone waiting in the wings ready to step up. He brought in Saleh when he wasn't on anyone's radar and as soon as he left Shanahan had no doubt in his mind who the next DC would be. Shanahan has developed some decent coaches.
That was exactly my thoughts, Fangio came in to tweak the cover 6 and FYI i also run cover 6 in Madden as a base defense 😂😂 nit that anyone was asking lol
I think this defense is number 3 after our 2012 defense… no 100 yard rusher or rushing TD until we played the hawks week 13. Carlos Rodgers playing like the best CB we’ve had since Sanders.. Willis and Bowman crushing anyone who came over the middle… Aldon smith before he was a felon
If Demeco gets a head job, that will be 2 more 3rd round compensatory pics for 49ers. In the last few years, they've gotten 3rd round comp picks for Saleh, Martin Mayhew, and Mike McDaniel
The way they suffocated the RAMS (of all teams) on MNF had me wide-eyed. They are DEFINITELY on another level compared to just about every other NFL team.
@@franchisefred4066 I actually thought this on Staffords last interception last night against Dallas. He just over threw the ball like crazy and acted like he was going to get hit (which he did) but just chunked the ball over the receiver looked on purpose and lowered his head like not to look where it was going on purpose, like he meant to give up any chance of a last minute comeback. It looked so rigged after they showed a closeup replay of him throwing and getting "hit". I was like damn, I hate to think this because I want to believe every play is all out fighting hard to win, but deep inside I have had my suspicions for a long time, just don't want to think about it or really ever know it for sure. I've loved the game since being a little kid and I know there's always one or 2 guys betting against themselves or their teams but really don't want to realize it might be more widespread or widely shared, the corruption and purposely loosing plays or games. But I def saw it last night at least 1 play by Stafford near the end of the game. Yeah the receiver was covered but he completely threw it over his head right to a Dallas db, def on purpose, not a chance for the receiver. What a shame it was so obvious too. Such a disgrace to think about it.
Thanks man! I’ve learned a lot about defensive sets and thinking at a deeper level. Live the channel keep it up bro !! I even use some of this knowledge in madden 😂
DAMN...BRO THIS IS THE BEST BREAKDOWN I'VE SEEN. just came across your channel and dude you got it. Not just cause i'm a 9er fan just the way you break it down. Salute bro and keep doin yo thang. Oh yeah this sums up why Fangio was around quite a bit in the offseason. Maybe giving D. Ryan a few tips
Excellent breakdown! I could listen to people talk about NFL defense all day. This coverage in particular reminds me of the Cover 9 defense, that's half man and half zone, I think. Anyway, love the content!
. . . like this video, a fantastic team effort. "no scheme works after 4 seconds!" with most pass rushers on the QB around 3. My observation os "Stall the QB even slightly and it's death by a 1000 paper cuts, or take your sack like a man!" Nicely done gents !!!!
Mufonga has been playing at an elite elite level. Making plays all over the field in both stopping the run & creating havoc in the passing game. Most definitely it's between Philadelphia & San Francisco 4 NFC Crown this year.
This channel and Alex Rollins and JT Osullivans channels are the best football science videos on RU-vid… In madden I run so much cover 3, 4, 6, and 9 that opponents ask me all the time what kinda defense I run… When you mid in 2 man under and cover 1 guys online cant counter… The best thing about cover 6 in my opinion is that it’s confusing as hell to qbs since they just see cover 2 man based on the safety alignments… Fangio will often run the cover 6 and man up the better wr and man up the TE…while everyone else plays cover 6 zones… If you know what coverages are you can shut down most modern nfl offenses as far as the chess match goes… Why the 49ers are so good at it is because of Bosa and the entire defensive line…the depth is scary AH…when Hufanga stepped up and Mooney Ward got signed I just knew this defense would be special…they can run any play out of its 43 alignment even against 4 wr sets…when you mix in the cbs and safety depth, they can play against anybody… Now the offense is a whole different story…😅 Great video man!
There's a lot of fake football "analyzers" out there... you are NOT one of them! This breakdown is fantastic start to finish! And Hufanga is absolutely the breakout player that can truly make this defense go from great to ELITE! Keep in mind that Fred Warner being that field general who is basically a D coordinator on the field to make adjustments and get guys aligned is truly the best in the league at his position. They have everything you can ask for at each level of defense. All they need is the Offense to not shoot them in the foot with bad turnovers and/or 3 and outs causing them to get gassed. But back to my original point. GREAT VIDEO!
You would be unstoppable if you had a legit QB... otherwise you wouldn't lose to the trash Broncos by one in a terrible game that had two teams score 21 pts. 11-10.
@@aaronmartinez377 I am a Niners fan and I agree with you. Sucks that the Niners are wasting this elite defense due to their incompetent QB and a head coach who freezes and chokes after halftime.
@@cali4920 incompetent QB? Jimmy has been nothing but successful. Do you remember what they played like before Jimmy? He had a shoulder injury last season. He's been throwing darts today. Sure, he's no Rodgers but I'm happy he's our guy.
Hufanga and Josh Jones show why the safety position so important. Hufanga elevates the defense to the next level while josh jones almost singlehandedly makes the defense more predictable.
Zimmer had a similar approach the year the Vikings lead the league in 3rd down conversion rate and the most 3 and outs. They haven't had the same Dline since then but they definitely had the best safety duo was actually getting all world play out of Rhodes and one of the best linebackers in the league. Rn the 49ers arguably have the best safety duo, depends on who you talk to, solid corner play as well as 2 top tier LB threats and a DLine that is up there among the best. If not for a safety and a blocked FG return the 49ers would be allowing less than 10 ppg. And if not for Russell Wilson pulling one out were really dang close to going 3 straight games without allowing a TD. Even scarier they had over 100 yards in penalties in week 1 which were followed up by points. The ball hasn't even been going the 49ers way at every turn and still lead the league in PPG. Sheesh.
The Defense has gotten better since this was made but the offense is spectacularly better. Not only Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, CMC, Juice, Third and Jauan. My God this has the makings of the Niners 94 team stacked at every position. My only concern is our offensive line.
We really haven't lost our defensive dominance since the Singletary days. It been slightly up and down but Singletary was the man who really enforced that mentality.
9:22...Nick Bosa is too busy...lol... fork-lifting his left tackle and dumping him straight into fields lap...lol...Great Commentary...I like your analysis and breakdowns...I'm a subscriber now...Keep Up the great work...
Luckily fangio has been at the 49ers facility and will most likely take the DC job if Ryan leaves. So basically the defense will still be hot because he is the creator of the defense anyways
I think without a doubt future defenses are going to move away from mostly cover one or man coverage. Because frankly it is way too expensive and difficult to have personnel that is superb at man coverage. With this defense you only really need about two.
Man coverage will always exist due to its simplicity and effectiveness when it works - As mentioned in the video this defense also plays a lot of man (particularly against the rams) where they fall back to old single high principles from Saleh, and when they picked their matchup they’ve been great at it. I definitely think split coverages and even more intricate pattern matching is definitely the future of the NFL though. However this cover 6 won’t be the top defense for very long either - coordinators much smarter than me will learn to exploit it
The personnel on this defense is so good they can play both zone & man very well. The D-line is stout, Fred Warner is a freak at MLB & Hufanga is Polamalu 2.0.
I wasn't a SF fan before and their defense has always been the thing I liked about them. Then Glock Purdy came and I became a fan. I wanted Vikings to win it all but they got elim so Imma root for SF now. Let's get that Superbowl
I really appreciate this breakdown. I wondered if Salehs scheme was still involved. This is the defense we've been waiting for. All positions are good.
The only problem is that their offense ranks #28 rightnow. The defense can get them to the playoffs, but the offense needs to start picking it up or they can be an early exit in the postseason. You still have to score points in this league and keep the defense fresh by having a good offense
Dude, Shanahan and Jimmy G should be sorry! I know the oline isn't the best, but with weapons like Deebo, Kittle, Aiyuk and Juice they should be atleast a mid offense. They're #28 rightnow! Shanahan needs to wake up and get going or this championship defense will go to waste this year!
Excellent breakdown bro. It's funny how much I like cover 6 in real life. Always liked it better than cover 3 and cover 2. I think the 49ers have no weaknesses and that's why the scheme looks so good. I feel sorry for Baker today and so called elite qbs in the future
49's have good defense, the players defense is good at recognizing the offence passes hence they are able to execute at the correct time leaving their opponents weak.
As a big 49er fan, you have enlightened me beyond measure. I was thinking that their defense always looked like it was running the same thing, play after play. Until you told us and showed us how flexible their defense was, I was kinda mad at Demeco Ryans for not disguising his defense better! Alas, quite a bit of injuries to defensive starters has got the 49ers at 4-4 (but 3-0 in their division).
I've been watching football my entire life and a lot of this video goes over my head. Just goes to show you most nfl fans have no idea what they are looking at, and only after analyzing the tape does it all become clear. But no way are they processing all of this in 5 seconds
Fangio might well be the 49ers' defensive coordinator next season, after DeMeco Ryans is hired for a head coaching position. Fangio was spending time at 49ers' camp, fueling speculation.
