My man hooked us up with the fcking fire interviews lately. The best interview coverage I´ve ever seen on any event ever. Plus it is a personal channel not even corporate, this is so impressive.
Rory is such a hustler man, like he is literally taking his precious time to make his way to each athlete to interview them and keep his love for media going. Hard worker man. Keep it up brother.
I haven’t heard his excuse yet but I thought he looked back and didn’t see it over at the edge. Ok heard him now. I believe him. Remember this is the guy who redid an open workout few years ago because he didn’t like one of his movements even though everyone else said it was fine.
Kristian Fagerström I would say maybe in normal circumstances that may be true, but you cannot comprehend things in the same way that deep into a workout. I can’t do basic math at that point in a workout.
I would just like to leave this here. What if the Iron Man competition after the first event (don’t know but if it’s swimming) the last 25% they got out of the water they just told them to leave even if they are amazing at the bike and running. And then after biking the last 50% had to leave and now only 25% is left even if some of them might suck at running. Are they really the fastest Iron Man ppl?
Completely agree. For the big cuts, I think a triplet or a workout more CrossFit centered would have made more sense. Or only having the top 40-50 men & women like they have been the past couple years.
Cool to see Mat give Shane Orr credit as his coach... I wish he would give Noah the credit he deserves as a tough competitor... He's the only one who has give Mat a hard time since 2015.
@@rickmcguffey9881 the event where they used a hammer to move a steel track. Noah was one of the athletes that pulled the track slightly inatead of noving it with each blow
I gotta give you that your interviews are great. For once someone is letting the subject talk to point and not being interrupted. I've been watching some of your interviews over the games and you show great respect for the athletes and not putting yourself in focus (like some greasy brothers..) . Keep up the good work Rory... I'll be watching!
Freaking love watching Mat! His post event interviews chasing down Noah have me FIRED UP! I love watching this man train and see his mindset. Makes me want to work that much harder
I think the minute penalty felt a bit arbitrary, sorta like... oh it's a sandbag, 1 sandbag = 1 minute... What might have been a good penalty would be to measure the amount of time it took for Mat to get from the sandbag location to the finish line and be docked twice that time. (The amount of time it took to get to the sandbag and back). Regardless, I am happy for the results, I really don't like seeing a competition where someone's running away with the lead, definitely added a bit of tension that made the overall games experience more interesting. What I do think might help in the future (if they implement cuts again) is to set the cuts less aggressively and possibly have 20 - 25 competitors on the field all of saturday instead of leaving it to 10 people for most of the day.
Brian East good point on the sandbag. I agree that a minute felt too harsh because it was not like he ran the entire 1.5k without the bag, only a couple hundred meters. A 20-40 second penalty would have made much more sense. It parallels how they gave athletes the 10 second penalty on a 25 second sprint just for stepping one foot outside of the line. That would make sense to be revised as well for a smaller addition of time. All in all the games was very fun to watch this year because it was different, I do like the ideas of cuts but maybe cutting down to 40/50 the same way but taking more time to get down to 20 and 10 would make more sense overall.
I disagree. I think that if he'd have a different name, he'd be DQ for not finishing the event properly. I'm glad that I got to see him the rest of the compwetition, but a fair penalty would have been a DQ or a redo by himself, as another athlete had to do. Possibly a 10 min penalty, but that seems lenient compared to the sprint penalties.
@@kristianfagerstrom7011 Yeah, the sprint penalties were really rough, especially considering that results came down to fractions of a second... but not sure how they could apply a fair penalty there that doesn't outright turn into a DQ
17:48 a heartfelt share from Fraser about his brother losing weight after coming to the Games, and the same for a friend he's known since age 4 who changed his habits after working out with Fraser. And Fraser gives him workouts to do and keeps up with his friend daily?! That's truly wonderful. An answer to "To whom much is given, much will be required." (Luke 12,48) Makes me respect Fraser that much more.
Why? The prize money per event is the same, the overall prize payout remains the same, and the building rental is the same. The judges are volunteers, so I am not sure where the cost savings come from.
the amount of of money Reebok, Rogue and Crossfit are making off these guys and ladies names like Fraser, Froning,Tia, etc is disgusting,, theses companies are making 100,000 millions and paying these athletes unto which the foundation of their brands are built 100,000 thousands is a travesty,, Froning saved Reebok, yea they signed a contract with Crossfit , but if it not for him, Crossfit would be still in its infancy, and Reebok was months from insolvency , and now the next gen athletes like theses guys are still getting paid like shit, Put it this way Crossfit built this huge stadium and arenas with giant compound which includes camping etc... and yet pays their athletes 6 figures... just awful....
Reebok, Rogue, CrossFit took all the risks. They fronted tons of money and resources, without which the games wouldn't be possible. The sport is made possible by the sponsors, investors, creators. Without Reebok, Rogue, CrossFit, these athletes wouldn't have a sport at all. Risk = Reward. Welcome to capitalism.
You dolt! CrossFit did not build that stadium with a camping compound. It was built by the city of Madison and has been there for years. They have all kind events there like farm shows and cow competitions. They lease the space out for events. But I guess if I hang a banner on the Grand Canyon with my name on it, you will think a built it.
@@wolfhunter6711 fuck nuts!!.. Crossfit's contract with Madison was contingent on them being allowed to renovate and refurbish. which was done partly by Allient and partly Crossfit !!!
Great interview ...Matt now trains with Shane as coach. No one would have ever written that in their script. Froning and the Mayhem crowd obviously have good things going on in Cookeville. Matt is such a humble and simple guy. True Champion
Rory, I met you yesterday at Katrin's book signing and i didn't get the chance to tell you I love the way you're continuing to cover the sport. Since the change that happened with Crossfit i think it's awesome the way you as well as others have been able to cover the sport in ways that may not have been done previously. So basically I want to say your work is awesome and thank you!
Talking about his brother and friend getting motivated to get healthy. Thats what the games do for my husband and i. A burst of new enthusiasm every summer.
Ro, this is the interview I wanted to see, thank you! Personal, friendly, in depth. Attempting to not lead answers (I know it's hard). Keep doing this!
I've loved seeing all of these interviews! It's awesome to get an athlete's take on something with more than a 30 second sound bite right after an event. And usually, we only get to hear from event winners, so hearing from different athletes who have equally valuable things to say was a nice change! :)
Nice to UNDESTAND what happens in Matt's mind when he is in Competition mode?!?! It's as much as a MENTAL game as it is a PHYSICAL at the CrossFit Games. Tia is a a good example, I remember my 1st introduction to Tia in the Games Documentary, her mindset on the wrong place & doubting herself which costed her 1st place finishing at the Games!!! This year she is STRONGER than ever to match her physical capability!!! She is also so HUMBLING!!! Got to also RESPECT Matt's priorities, motivating family and close friends that matters to him the most than anything else!!! Tia and Shane are really awesome people, you can't DENY Shanes "SENSE OF HUMOUR"?!?!... >< lol
I loved hearing Fraser's thoughts.😄 He mentioned how everytime there is a change in the games, people throw s fuss and then it becomes normal. For some reason that comforts me.🥰
Brad Allen what I also understood is that judges check all bags after each loading to ensure they were zipped up. They weren’t allowed to progress without the bags being zipped up. That leads me to believe that the GoRuck bag had a malfunction
CrossFit HQ fucked up by firing Rory. Glad to see he relocated to the Mecca of CrossFit and got out of that hell hole of California. He’s hit the ground running
Wheelhouse is all I hear...crossfit is about being good all across the spectrum of physical activity so I'm not really moved by this...the cuts are a different question. True, bit too dramatic in my opinion, but to the raging fans...please we have a ton of sanctions, you can watch your fav compete like potentially 7 times a year, no just 2
@18:00 But wait. Glassman says people aren't inspired to pursue health and fitness because of the Crossfit Games/Games athletes. He says the Games aren't anything but a circus show. Mat can't be right. /sarcasm.
These CrossFit games athletes are not necessarily healthy, in my opinion. From an Ancestral Health point of view, we as a species for millions of years, did our best to conserve our energy for when we needed it to survive, which was most of the time. The amount of training these athletes do is excessive and is not conducive to overall good health.
It is pretty simple. In a track event if you cross into someone else’s lane you get DQ’d. The penalty was basically a DQ light. The rule is in place to discourage you from entering into someone else’s lane and interfering with them and hindering their result and placing or causing them injury. Pretty simple concept....for most.
Rory you are a great interviewer... way better than everybody else doing the same job. You let people talk, you let them comfortable, great questions, etc. Congrats
25:55 The problem aren't rules. The problem is changing the damned rules every year. Give us a format and stick to it so we don't need to have these discussions every year.
Now that it’s out there and talked about we need an interview from Shane! Gauging on the reactions he had from Tia’s second place finish 4 years ago I bet his nerves were soooo bad this year.
Definitely leaning more towards pay your own way. Unless you are lucky enough to have a sponsor which is maybe the top 10 top 20. But all the people who came from other countries had to pay their own way. Visas and everything.
Pay their own way unless they are being sponsored by companies. I think the only thing covered by the games is their hotel room once they get there & their clothing for the games.
As a Miami resident, I'm glad to hear that Fraser had a great time at Wodapalooza as well. I always make it a point to make it at least 1 - 2 days over there when they compete in January. Thinking it would be pretty cool to run into more of the Athletes there.
