Just discovered you on DaTube... Watched one vid, then another, three more and started wondering why do I keep clicking on the next one :) Simples as meerkats say (advert campaign here in UK)- I need very high density of information in any message or I lose interest due to very small amount of time I have to get any info about anything. Very clear delivery, to the point, no waffling, clear examples, concise and precise descriptions - I will be back ;)

Hello Jeff, I know you're heading out so I hope when you get back you might answer this question first off super great video. Now my space is my old garage with high of only 7.5 feet build for Model T's so there not much high how do I work around it? When you want light over the head of your subject I will take any input for sure I have figure some of it out but on other I'm at a lose. Thanks so much, have a great travel and safe one looking forward to more of your teaching.

is there a big difference between the umbrella with Stop Front Diffuser and a octabox in final results?

Great channel! I had trouble seeing the difference between Rembrandt and loop light position, they both seem to be above subjects head and 45 degrees from centre?

do you stay (camera position) in front of the modifier when using the flat lighting technique?

Jef this is awesome, hope you put out more content like this. Seems like everyone just wants to do natural light.
@GiannisVeronis
@GiannisVeronis 5 лет назад
depends on the style that you are after, natural light can work really well in combination with flash
@robertocordero4682
@robertocordero4682 5 лет назад
Giannis Veronis I prefer using strobes, shots have more punch and sharper feel.

Thanks so much for watching! I think the most important thing to learn is lighting as a whole, both natural and studio lighting so that you're prepared for any situation as a photographer. This video is a great introduction to lighting patterns that you can still consider when using natural light. For instance, turning your subject 90-degrees to the sun can also produce split light. It's all relevant to learn. :)

Hi Jeff, How do you differentiate Loop Lighting from the Rembrandt Lighting? I often times get the two techniques confused.
@user-ex2td8uj5u
@user-ex2td8uj5u 5 лет назад
Jeff, the overhead lighting as you showed in your other video consider to be one more pattern of lighting or is just a paramount - butterfly type?

Great timing! Had my first shoot yesterday. Still have a LOT to learn, but got some images I'm quite pleased with. Whether my post production did them any justice is another matter. Would love to get your advice some day, Jeff! :)
@JeffRojas
@JeffRojas 5 лет назад
Thank you! It sounds like you had a ton of fun! :) You should enter your images into an image competition like WPPI or Shutterfest, it's the best way to get real, unbiased criticism (and I also judge at the latter). :)

Thanks, Jeff! I know I need to work on my post and composition, but it was a big confidence boost to get out and do it. I am sure my 'final' images will evolve over the coming 48 hours as I revisit them and recompose them. Right now they're suffering from landscape syndrome where I'm trying to get more in that necessarily adds to the final image, it's just a case of figuring out how far I go with cropping :) I will check out local competitions for sure!

Love your videos! You look a bit like Johnny Depp. With the butterfly lighting, do you need to darken the shadows in post? Because when I try the exact same setup with the same size softbox, mine looks more like a police mug shot, with little shadows on the edges of my face or under the jawline. I have nowhere near the amount of shadows. I don't know what I'm doing wrong :-(

Jeff, you are providing link to your main light modifier which is 25 hundred bucks. You can buy the same quality light for 500$ (godox, for example). Also, just wondering in you pictures, there is not much ambient light present, just the light from the constant light of strobes. How do you accomplish that?

You are using constant lighting, so it's easy to position the light correctly in an instant. How about speedlights, do you have any tips? Thanks!

Try pressing the DOF button on your camera, which will help show where the light is falling. :)
