Engine braking, a problem? I use something called throttle control which works both ways. You should try it some time!

LOL, fair enough. It's fun hearing the different takes on these bikes. I have the R model 2013 and I love the shyte out of it. You nailed it with the whole "hate is a strong word" thing. I get everything you mentioned, but the only one that bothers me are the parts prices. My list might be something like... 5: You need a special stand for single-sided swingarms to raise the rear. 4: The two up rear Pipes make it hard to use side bags. 3: Service and parts costs are higher than Japanese bikes, but not quite as bad as BMW, Ducati or Aprilia. 2: It makes great power but I wish it scared me a little more. 1: The front lights are a little funky lookin and the brights are virtually useless, unless you like looking at the trees on either side of you.

Hi all , I bought a new 2014 , 33,000 miles later. Awesome and still awesome. It's so good I road the 2023, it's bigger, not sure its better? The speed 3 is a great bike, I tour on it as well, great all round. If your thinking of buying one , I think you'll be happy!

I have a 1995 Daytona 1200 and the front and rear brakes are pin sharp, I can't believe Triumph have got any worse. Have you got stock pads and rotors or have you mismatched pads? When was the last time you cleaned up the rear calipers, when was the last time you bled the brakes with new fluid or have you tried refurbing the rear master cylinder with a low cost refurb kit?

Hi In regards to engine braking and bike throwing You forward - on any bike this effect is often caused by suspension setup - set Your SAG up !! soft front for the weight + to fast rear shock rebound will be the reason for this particular problem ! Just try to add some rebound damping on the shock by turning the screw type adjuster at the bottom of the shock clockwise ... If You push on the rear of the bike vigorously and it will come back in controlled manner rather than jump You will be in the right place - If You cant achieve that then Your shock oil is too old or You spring is to strong for the damping ability of the shock. Cheers

Good vid, I worked at a triumph dealer a few years back, even in the uk some of the parts are quiet expensive, especially the rear brake leaver lol! I wouldn't really say the tank is so big but its short and wide, the entire bike is very short infact, they had to cram all the electrics and battery into the front of that tank because they left so little room at the back end of the bike, personally I quiet like it can really grip the tank under engine braking

Shoulda kept 'em both! I have the '17 and it has too many damn modes! But having more than a few bikes of varying qualities has me appreciating this hooligan beast to no end. I worked my way up to the Speed Triple, last was the Thruxton R (also great). It's a fantastic bike, it's just only happy when you're tearing around like a madman, and that's a good thing ;). Calmoto does a quick review on that same bike and the first thing he says is that he's glad that it doesn't have the added tech. Now forgive me for sounding glib, but you went from that in-line three, to the Harley, and one reason was b/c it was not tech enough? Perhaps a Victory Vision with all the fixings, maybe, but Harley maintains it's raw, basic form, no? I like your channel man.

Hate is a strong word. A few of the problems you seem to experience seem to come down to what I consider as rider specific issues. I do expect that your being a heavier rider might account for this. I am 100 lbs lighter and so don't have those same problems. You are spot on about the parts- way too dear.

I will buy a bike but I wasn’t sure which one to get. I started looking at Ducati monster 1200 then I saw the Speed Triple and couldn’t ignore how much I didn’t like the headlights and the two big mufflers under the seat. After two months searching for good deals on bikes at Cycle Trader I started to develop a kind of love and hate with the Speed Triple, now I kind of decided to buy it. I’m 47 years old and rode a bike on my 20’s for a period of 1 year. So the question is, since I consider myself almost a beginner should I “start” on a Speed Triple? I don’t like the idea of buying a bike now just to sell in one year also the Speed Triple I have my eyes on is a 2016 R and it comes with those riding modes so my guess is if I keep on Rain mode all the time I’ll not end up killing myself. Does it make sense? Thanks for your video.
@BikeNBird
@BikeNBird 6 лет назад
+ARUKYAN you're definitely on the right path with the modes. as mentioned that's what I hated about mine when I had it. Even with modes though I feel it still has the potential to be "too much" the newer STREET triple would be a great option. I know a few people that have gotten them and absolutely fall in love with them.
@eastbaymauiboy
@eastbaymauiboy 6 лет назад
ARUKYAN What size bike was it you rode in your 20s?. I am your age and I was a converted dirt bike rider who went virtually straight to a Speed Triple. (I did have a DRZ400S for about a year, but that's just another dirt bike more or less). I had no trouble with the power of the Speedy. They do have a lot of power but it's very predictable and controllable in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. It could be a dangerous prospect for somebody who doesn't possess kind of a natural feel for relatively powerful motorcycles

@@eastbaymauiboy Thanks buddy, it helps me a lot! Had a 650KLR enduro in my 20th. I m looking for a very sporty bike with a good ergonomic. Fun, handling and accelerration over topspeed and long tour. If it would be able to go for daytrip with some breakes, it would be a nice bonus. It should have really impessive power. )) I m 1,89 = top 6,2 with around 100kg = 220lbs. Is the speedy fitting for me, or is it to small dimensioned? Thanks in advance.
@eastbaymauiboy
@eastbaymauiboy 3 года назад
@@rooney1680 My Speed Triple R is a 2013 and it's not super powerful (by today's standards) but it's got "good" power at 135hp. It's smoothe, linear and torquey. It's a REALLY nice bike overall. It does not "need" more power, buy I do wish it had about 25 more ponies. I like my bikes to scare me a little on acceleration. 😁 My bike is very comfortable and I can ride it all day with no problem. Around 2017 they increased it to 140hp, then up to 150hp in 2018. I haven't ridden the 150hp model, but in general, 150+hp is in "very fast" territory. The new 2021 model apparently has what I'd consider "scary power" at 176hp, which I like alot but I should maybe avoid. 😊 I'd say for you, a 2017 or later model would fit all your criteria very well. They are not small bikes. I'm also 6'2" and around 215lbs. It fits me just fine. Hope that helps
@rooney1680
@rooney1680 3 года назад
@@eastbaymauiboy Thank you much for these informations you share. The 2021TripleSpeed is my absolute favor. But because I didnt drove much last years, I wanna buy a older cheaper bike. There I plan to put some protection elements on and and do explore the limits hard. (Handling on parkour and track) I sugesst probably to buy a fz1000... its very very cheap but powerfull.. and work on my skills like I did with my dirtbikes back in the days. And than I will be ready for the 2021 speedy. ))

I hate the on / off throttle snap... In a turn from off to on throttle is sooo jerky even with the most minimal throttle turn .. it’s enough throw me off my riding line.?!? I’m buying a G2 throttle tamer and I’m looking at getting it re mapped to drop some torque down low. My rear brake is relatively good compared to my last bike (955i) I also hate the soft ass suspension.. have tightened it right up .. but it’s still not as good as my old daytona. Also hate the handlebars - have ordered clipons (easy fix) Also hate the rearset position - will order some adjustable rear sets asap. (Can’t easily trail brake whilst in the corner as the lever is too high and too far forward) Anyways.. I’ll fix all this and it will be a weapon.!

I have the 2013 speed triple R. I got it from new, first i didnt have the fly screen on, when i got a fly screen i hated it, so i took that off. Im 6ft and the wind was hitting me right in the chin. Torque is great but in the wet its hard to ride thats what i have found. Engine braking yes your right way too aggressive for me too, its not a race bike but still fun. Tech yes and no for me. I like less tech but rain mode would be good. Rear brake i dont really know because the front brakes are sooooo good. The tank, i was like yes a big tank=more fuel=longer rides but no. The battery is in front of the tank plus the air box, so it is what it is. But i love my trumpie.

Sorry mate, but none of these are issues. Engine braking is absolutely normal for a big crank like that. The clutch and torque output is absolutely perfectly measured. The biggest with the bike is the weight, it needs to loose 5kg at least.
@DarthRevan12
@DarthRevan12 2 года назад
Just remove the double under tail exhaust and weld a side exhaust under belly and you gonna lose much more than 5kg and because you are removing kg on top of the bike i.e under tail you gonna be way lighter than typical stock exhaust removal

The intuitive shifting, the engine rev knowing when to shift based on feel and engine sound not because a computer tells you when to shift or what to do next. Learned on a old beater kawi 500.
