Very informative video. I like my stainless Mora's as much as the carbon. Honestly, the reason I like my carbon blades is because of the patina that gives the knife an aged look. Good job guys.

As a kitchen knife fan, Martin knows about Hitachi super blue, blue, white, and yellow paper steels. There's a maker that has returned to forging Hitachi white paper steel and is the best bladesmith at achieving higher and higher performance through heat treating, cold forging and manipulating the steel. Murray Carter is his name. Check out one of his custom chef knives. You will be amazed. Your steel video made me think of him and you deserve to own one of these.👍
My father in law recently told me that all steel knives have basically the same edge retention. “Steel is steel,” he said. I laughed in his face and cued up the DBK comparison video for the Stainless Garberg and the Carbon Garberg. He couldn’t believe the difference with the feather sticks and was very impressed with DBK’s knowledge and skill. So that’s my “things people get wrong about knives.” “Steel is Steel” isn’t always true in that sense. 🤷🏻♂️🔥👍🏼

OK guys I have several suggestions : -an episode where you forge a knife? (or at least a handle on a blank) -helle utvaer test? -details on how to make a fire bushcraft style (it takes me about 7 tries to get it going) Love the channel obviously.
Can you make a video talking only about different kinds of steel? And the pro's and con's on different edges/grinds? Maybe you already did and I didn't found it yet... And I'm curious about your opinion about neckknives like the Mora Eldris.
I live in the low country of South Carolina US. The humidity is really high here too. I still like carbon steel more... I carry both... if your carbon steel has a good patina it is a bit more resistant to rusting than clean raw carbon steel

Had a heat treat fail in a Gerber multitool years ago. Like Maarten said I saw a bubble in the grains of metal on the pliers. Heat treat fails can be in any metal........except Bark river.

Yea old school d2 has loose tolerances vs new steels so they have made tightened up versions that behave differently from each other newer processing methods made it posible use to be a knife maker would have to buy a series of d2 to get d2 that acted the same and they would have to adjust their heat treatment batch to batch as every series was different and there is variations in some ovens as for super steel im almost thinking its a term like surgical stainless steel its a marketing thing
I really liked the break down of soft steels vs hard steels.. You can get O1 sharper than anything out there but the moment after that first cut that same sharpness is irrelevant.

From what I understand about D2, making it a CPM steel only improves the properties slightly but makes it significantly more expensive, making CPM D2 very unpractical.

Mm goede vraag. Er zijn verschillende coatingen. Op goedkope messen zijn de coatings soms zo Zacht dat ze afgeven. De nieuwe fallkniven X serie bv gebruikt een tungsten coating welke zelfs harder is dan het staal zelf (80 HRC). Het antwoord hangt dus enigsinds af van welke coating er gebruikt is
When even same model of knife is not just the same as every other of that model you get a chance to learn YOUR knife. Before you go to the wilderness or rely on your new knife, you can test it. Push on it at your safer area of home ground. Lots of RU-vidrs will tell you to do more with your new knife at home where you are not stranded or out of your element and learn what YOUR version of it is capable of doing. Know your knife before you NEED to know it and HAVE to rely on it. When the DBK heroes got knives from dr Waco they were tried and true. Sharpened and put to the test and the gunny scsndi becsme a favorite! Its a chance for fun with your new knife! Be safe though! Also: two knives is one knife and one knife on you is none if mishap or loss by breaking or getting misplaced occurs. I like two fixed blades and one folder on me even in town. That's not counting a Survival knife you pack well on your far journey in the wilderness for emergencies.

Boys, thank you for pointing out the fact that most stabbings are done with kitchen knives, usually €1 ones from a crap supermarket, in England screw drivers are also very popular, no scum bag is going to spend €100 on a knife he is going to throw in the river after a crime! In England locking pocket knives are illegal, I mean our government banned a safety devise! Anyway love the channel and I am jealous of your lives basically, physically fit, you can do gymnastic tricks, cook, but the real screw driver to the guts is, your young, bastards! Some knives are weapons, some are tools, it depends on the design and intended purpose. I think most of us can agree that for example a KA-BAR USMC is a weapon, it's a combat knife made for soldiers. Clip point, seven inches, and a stick tang to make it light in the hand speaks for itself. Now kitchen knives are made for kitchen task. Now could you shank someone with them thus making it a weapon sure, but you could stab someone in the eye or throat with a pencil but it doesn't make it a weapon by design. I dare say that most items can be used as a weapon, but in the end it comes down to "Intended Purpose" when created by the manufacturer.
People say you need a carbon survival steel knife so you can use it as a backup fire steel to make fire by striking the back of the blade with flint etc
Yeah some people advocate for that. Personally, in a survival situation I don’t want to hold my knife with the blade pointing toward my hand and smack away at the spine with a hunk of rock. Plus, you really have to have something like char cloth or similar tinder to take a spark from that method and get fire. Impractical, unsafe, risks damage to the most important tool you have. That’s JMHO though.
Knives are beautiful and very useful tools, and like all tools, can be misused and can be used as a weapon. But, so can automobiles, beer bottles, ball-point pens, hammers, screwdrivers, glass plates, frying pans, shoe laces, pillows, plastic bags, rope...well, even the slow witted can get the idea.
