I am a kid of the 80s. Road & Track, Car & Driver would all say that the Porsche 944 turbo was the best handling sports car. You guys don't remember that?

Those magazines lie to kiss ass to manufacturers so they get to go to the 5 star hotels and drive their new cars and make content. Don't listen to them

Drive a 944s2, or a 968 and you will really enjoy the experience. Such a well balanced car and great fun on the track!!!

Thank you for the honest feedback. I bet many people don't know potential $$$$$ expenses when looking at used Porsches. A dealer/reputable mechanic full inspection seem to be worth gold prior to consider a purchase.

I don't know why the RU-vid algorithm brought me to this video, but I watched the whole thing and I was entertained. 💁‍♀️

Also, there's the M96 and M97 flat sixes (built from '97-'08) that can require a rebuild in one of four ways; IMS, d-chunk, cylinder head crack or bore scoring. Fine to buy those cars, just go in with a game plan and eyes wide open.
@davidshaw164
@davidshaw164 8 месяцев назад
They aren’t all prone to those issues, an early 986 won’t have bore scoring and has a far superior imsb.

Porsches are more than just the 911. I love the transaxle cars especially the 944 and 928. Great 80s cars!

Now Nathan what do you really think?? I’m never quite sure what your opinion is…haha. Love your straight talk. Rare to find someone that tells it like it is. You’ve saved me from a lot of mistakes on beemers and Porsches. Thank you!

Great info, glad to see the Cayman still there, I was worried. I have 2 - 987.1 and .2, both run great but still worried about bore scoring on the .1. Be safe on the back roads, deer still don't carry insurance.

I like my 986! It drives well, has not too much power for the street (drive a slow car fast!), and are reliable if you can find one with once the IMS bearing upgrade.

Hey Nathan, recently found you’re channel and I’m really enjoying the content. Been watching a few videos of yours, and I must say I’m really impressed. I’m part of a big Porsche community in the US & UK and you seem to mention bore scoring a lot on your videos? The reason I bring this up is truly because you haven’t really shown any videos on a bore scored porsche on this channel and me and a lot of guys would love to see a great tutorial on how to prevent it , what it looks like , and how to fix it. There really isn’t any information on your channel or anywhere on RU-vid regarding anyone building or showing a bore scored porsche engine in full term. I don’t know if this is something you would consider buying or doing so I could possibly share this or send the guys over to you’re channel. As your probably aware there is many people who would love to own a Porsche but are terrified of the bore score problem due to not much information or any videos relating to this issue and how to properly repair it. Most of us try to work on our own Porsches but bore score is something out of our depth and I believe a video about it would give us the confidence to tackle this issue and help a Porsche enthusiast community. We have all tried to search RU-vid but there is literally nothing and nobody who has done a bore score repair they are all short 2 min videos showing a bore scored engine but nothing more or where they had it repaired , full breakdown of cost , showing the engine before and after. I think it may add good value for your channel going forward. Anyway, hope you see this comment and hope to hear your thoughts on this Ben

Enjoying my first Porsche, a 1987 924S. This is the best of the 924 line next to the 924 Turbo. It has some quirks, but still relatively easy to work on and maintain. Surprised the 914 didn't make your list.🤔

Nathan you’re not negative, you’re just real. In 2023 and in this market it is clear that the manufacturers want you to buy new every 100k. The trick is to control everything with your car and take care of it.

I want an air cooled 911 and the mid 70's Targas are a bit cheaper. I almost bought a 76 Targa last month but kept looking at the roof line and started to hate it so I passed. I just cannot get past paying $50k for an air cooled 911 coupe so I likely won't be getting one anytime soon.

Great channel Nathan and I respect your opinion pretty highly since you wrench these cars. I'd like to think that I've done my homework before going into Porsche ownership. I'm currently awaiting feedback from a PPI inspection on a 45K mile 2011 Boxster S. After doing my homework I'm just more comfortable with the DFI engine versus the 987 generation one cars. My plan was to try to find the best example and most unique spec'd car that I could find in my price range. I'm nervous and excited at the same time, this will be my first "fun" sports car. I've got the garage space and will soon be retired so looking forward to doing my own basic maintenance on a car. I live in a rural area with lots of narrow, curvy and undulating country roads so "free track day" resonates with me. I just wish I had done this years ago. If you can afford it, do it, life is too short.

I hope the 2011 checks out. I've owned a 2010 Boxster S for seven years now with no issues. The redesigned 9A1DFI engine (introduced in 2009) has proven to be highly reliable. However, not many 2009-2012 987.2 Boxster / Cayman were built, so they are just hard to find.

@@davedovala2700 Yes, I did pull the trigger. Unfortunately for me I'm a merchant mariner and won't be home to see it until September. My wife likes it though. Good to hear about your 987.2 having no issues, I already want to install a short shift kit and a valved exhaust and I haven't even driven it yet.

Agree with your opinion on Macans. We bought a 2017 Macan Diesel S for my wife early 2022 for $80k NZD, 35k km on the clock. Now 53k km, it's worth probably $50k NZD at best. Also have visited porsche specialist shop many times... Problems: 1) replaced O2 sensor 2) replaced leak Ad-Blue line (line connects right on top of the turbo....plastic line...dumb design, and turbo sits at the back of the engine behind the firewall WTF) 3) many engine light issues that were just glitchy, same O2 sensor gives false alarm (or delayed alarm) 4) turbo light went on while on a scenic drive with the local Porsche Club, and no turbo. Luckily light went off after I restarted and never came on again... I'm personally driving a Lexus NX200t now. I would still buy a Porsche, but only 911 or Cayman 997.2/987.2 only.

Hey, which 911 will you recommend me to buy between $80k-$90k older than the 996. Thinking about the one with less common issues. I will take your opinion in really consideration 👌🏻👌🏻

Have a 997.2. Got it with 52,000 miles, it now has 125,000 miles without any major issues. This year we got a Macan S with 50,000 miles on the clock, & I love it. I owned a 73 914, kept the car for 7 years, wish I still had it. Had a 2003 964 cab. those had a horrible reputation at the time. I had no problems and I sold for 5K more than I paid for it. Maybe I've been lucky or maybe I take care of the cars I love.

The Panamera is the rebirth of the 928 for those that want a big sport touring car, not for me though. I'll keep the Cayman which basically is a 911 with the engine rotated 180 degrees.

Nathan answers just like how all Porsche purists would. However the SUVs like Cayenne and Macan are the only reason why Porsche was able to survive and become a profitable company. That profit continues the R&D for the sports cars that the purists love. This is what makes Porsche work: - Majority of the customers will continue to buy the Cayenne and Macan and make Porsche thrive. - Purists will continue to show the passion and love of the brand, even if it is just for the sports cars. There is also the hardcore purists which are 911 or nothing lol

Not even two weeks has passed since I bought my 1999 Porsche 996 convertible and is already leaking from the driver's seat rear cylinder hydraulic fluid and soft top not working. Getting a local Porsche mechanic to look into it, since the dealership here wants to charge me an obscene! amount of money. This despite passing the pre - purchase inspection with 'flying colors'

I've always loved the 928 due to the oddness of it. They used to be so cheap but the prices on any P cars(not suv) has just gotten insane. Love or hate the cayenne, it did save the company. Before I got my x5 I was cross shopping the cayenne. It came down to the name. People see Porsche and think your a stuck up rich dude.

Few European cars are going to make you money and for that matter not many made anywhere will. Old trucks is really the only way you can almost always make money because the parts pricing is predictable and the demand is still high with low inventory. I do love BMW cars and yes they need lots of work but I have owned three that went over 300k miles without any MAJOR issues.
