A few times, when I stopped to take a leak, is when I found sheds, slow and stopping often, is the key, they drop later in Maryland ag country (early March), earlier up in NY state.
I walked a bunch of spots that should have some. But I always end up going back.I found a real nice 5 point side last year on the 20th of March that wasn’t there 3 days earlier.Found 28 so far.And have walked about 40 miles.Usually it’s about 100 miles for that many here.
We haven't found sheds on our property for years but its still fun to look 😂 We have a few home body mature bucks that summer and spend the majority of fall at our place every year. I've noticed there's a shift after the second rut iis finished along with the summer/fall shift.
Good advice. I can never seem to find many antlers on my place when I set out to shed hunt. I have only actually found a few antlers total. Lots of snow in the bush and I think the coyotes might eat them or something. There are porcupines and tons of squirrels also. Usually the sheds I find are by accident just walking along and not even looking for them at all. oddly enough.
I've been waiting to go look on my lease because I have a couple nice 1s holding yet. Caught a lady and a guy on my Reveal Tactacam trespassing looking for sheds. I ran out and caught them they had a really nice 4pt side. Turns out they live down the road and thought they could walk it because they have in the past. What a joke so many people think once they have permission they have it forever!
I was always under the impression that the number 1 reason bucks typically lose their antlers is when they have lower testosterone due to low numbers of does producing estrous. And 2. being stressed out from not having easily sourced food. Would like to hear your thoughts on that if u dont mind
I’m watching my cameras all winter and monitoring when the bucks drop. Your spot on again, I don’t go in to look before the second week of March. Do you still put lime on your plots when they need it or just rely on plant start? Always look foreword to your videos. Have learned so much.
Feb 20th I went and swapped camera cards on my non cell cams and most bucks are still holding both sides in PA. another 2-3 weeks I'll be shed hunting/turkey scouting.
Best time to shed hunt is on a Wednesday morning while the neighbors are at work. Just make sure to wear a Halloween mask so if you get your picture taken on a cell cam your still good to go.
Hi Dylan...either hinge cuts, perpendicular to the field edge, 6' wide of switchgrass, shrubs...or all 3. Taking a bit of timber down by hinging or cutting along the edge can let more sunlight in if needed. You just don't want to create a wall!
