I feel much the same way as you do about many of the observations you made in the video. I think it's a great improvement over The 7th Continent where the focus was more on the need for survival and constant hunting rather than on the excitement of exploration and discovery. Did you play on medium difficulty? I started with that but decided to switch to the easy mode (for a more leisurely pace to pursue some side quests as well) whilst at the same time adding the dangers of the "On the Edge of Peril" expansion to the mix. The other expansions I added from the very beginning. Some of my favourite solo games such as Terraforming Mars. Ark Nova, Fallen Lands, Wingspan and Unfair feature a "mountain" of cards. For my taste, it's always "the more the merrier" for increased variability and unpredictability.
I played the whole game on the normal/medium difficulty. There were some tense moments for sure because of this, but I didn’t ever really feel the frustration I have felt with the 7th Continent. I also enjoy a pile of cards to go through. That would include games like you mention above, but also ones like Boon Lake too. I have never played Unfair. I need to check that one out!
@@JohnLaRuffa I've never played Boon Lake but I'll watch a video on it since you seem to enjoy many of the same solo games I play. Another one of my current favourites is ISS Vanguard, which also features lots of cards.
All sounds good to me, I'm currently waiting on the Summer 2024 Kickstarter.... but also hoping to maybe pick up the base game at retail from the original Kickstarter. I'm currently playing ISS Vanguard and due to go back to 3rd Campaigns is both Earthborne Rangers and Sleeping Gods Distant Skies. Not sure whether to pick up Above & Below or Near & Far, as Agemonia is also available.... decisions decisions.
