Exactly, if it takes more time to finish the game take more time for it. Better to properly finish the thing than to rush it because of a challenge for the detriment of the game and yourself
@@LighthoofDrydenIf you feel it’s taking a bit long it’s ok to try to focus on gameplay over other stuff like visuals just to get the gameplay down and then you can refine up the visuals and audio later.
Lol, Franklin. Am reminded of that George Carlin skit: "We're all sitting there in the living room, trying to impress our guests ... and the DOG is LICKING his BALLS!!"
I know a lot of people say that you should've won the blackthornprod competition (I agree with that btw), but if it weren't for the competition I and many others wouldn't have discovered tis channel. The fact that you hit 10k shows that a lot of people are interested in the game! You're making something great
Thank you so much! I totally agree--I think not winning has resulted in something much more special and exciting, already surpassing what I had hoped for!
Heat ripples & orange glow would make the furnace feel hot - it doesn't feel like a central background element at the moment. Congrats on getting 5% of the subscribers you deserve!
Ooh, that's a really cool idea. I wanted to add a sort of "undulating inner glow" but I ran out of time--Definitely on the list for future updates to the area!
Already around 10k people want your game 👀 expect a great income from disinherited. I might buy it and not play it until you finish it to the very end so I experience the whole game and still support you.
I was bored so here are some item ideas Item 1:an item that makes it so if you get hit you take damage but still catch the item Item 2&3:an item that makes light decrease faster but makes you faster and item 3 should do the opposite Item 4:an item that can push back enemy’s Item 5:your light bash does the same damage as a heavy bash but you are really slow Item 6:enemy’s that hit you take damage Item 7:less damage from traps and fall damage Item 8:a map that can tell you where specific areas are or idk something like that Item 9:slows down the reaper Yeah…I was rlly bored
I'm still surprised how your channel didn't hit at least the 100 000 subs already, you are doing such a good job with videos ! Oooh gods of the weird algorythm praise this awesome guy with million subs and watches
Franklin was not expecting such an existential question haha Goodness, you really must have made a lot of progress for all the new things I'm seeing after accidently skipping the last log I love the platforming The recoil and jump momentum is gonna make movement so much fun, I actually can't wait YES i absolutely LOVE damage increase proportional to speed items I'm going to have to dream up something for the minigames, but I'm usually a pretty big dreamer, so matching up to feasibility could be difficult 😅 The blur is really nice Can't wait for the next area!
I somehow see this going past 100 days with how much care you have put in so far. But you are damn efficient that's for sure. Congrats again on 10k though, you'll be at 100k before you know it.
I have some ideas/suggestions on some items and a item mechanic. What if after beating the game or beating a minigame you get an option in the settings so that the next time you play theres a small chance of some overpowered endgane items that would make speedrunning faster and have it as a reward for beating the game and an incentive to replay the game. Here are some of my ideas for those endgame items: a set of items that each have an effect on time one speeding it up another slowing it down and another that completely stops time, something that spawns in little helpers that could heal you or fight alongside you, and something that spawns in a random projectile in your hand every few seconds or minutes. But you dont have to put any of those in the game i just thought i might put some of my concepts and ideas out there.
Ik its a 100 day challenge but it seems like there is too much work to do to finish everything at the same level of quality as the first two areas. Personally I think you should extend it to 200 days doubt anyone would complain lol
Haha, probably true!! Although ideally I've now set up the underlying systems well enough that the development will naturally accelerate--fingers crossed!
Not sure what your editing in but instead of the black highlight behind all the words on screen in your video get rid of that and put a dropshadow on it. All the text you throw on screen will look much better.
Another great video. Like many of your subscribers I think you should see the 100 days as a soft target. In fact I'm sure you know that its almost unknown for a Game Dev to actually complete anything on time! However your productivity and ability to make these weekly videos suggests you could hit your target! However don't sweat it; only release this game when you really think its ready.
Thanks for the encouragement!! I'm definitely gonna keep working after the 100 days... I just think it'd be very cool to say that, in some way/shape/form, it was "complete" by that time :)
For sure! It’s gonna be an ongoing thing but my underlying philosophy is: I want less-skilled players to be able to see the main story content while having a challenging experience, and I want the ceiling for skilled players to be as high as possible. With my ideal for that being making *both* possible without even altering settings. Mechanics like bartering away health for power, rewarding hitless play, rewarding speed-it’s all on the table
Hey so im late from the 6 DEVs make games for 10000 dollars and i just wanna say you were robbed honestly. I love your game so much and i cant wait to play it. And now i got a bunch of devlogs i can watch. honestly i really hope that after the 100 days your still gonna add content cause it seems like theres so much opportunity in this game. Anyways im definetly subscribing!
Great devlog as always and congrats on 10 000 subs! For the Augusta fight I think the background makes the fight quite overwhelming visually would you consider slowing it down or adding a toggle for it in the settings?
I just watched your competition for 10k, sorry that you lost but super glad you are coming out on top by building a community and this amazing game. I’ll keep watching these dev logs in the meantime!
Do you need to complete all the areas within 100 days? Hades launched in early access with 2/4 areas available, and we know how that went. I wonder if it’d be better to focus on mechanics (more items etc.) and polish rather than pushing to complete every area.
I've thought that might be a good approach too--But I think it's good to strike a balance of forward momentum and doubling back to polish. Sometimes while forging ahead I've seen more of the big picture, which has showed me what needs more attention :D
The schmovement enjoyers win again. Maybe it would be cool to have an item that would allow gliding (a large handkerchief?), I think it would make the movement combos even cooler.
i really like the idea of momentum preservation but i feel like it would feel more natural if a small amount of momentum was lost each time you bunny hop, meaning its still worthwhile but you are also encouraged to stop and start a new bunny hop
I've missed the last couple of videos, but I'm back on track. Game is looking great, I really can't wait!! is Franklin getting a cameo in the game right?
The game is looking absolutely amazing, roguelikes are my favorite. I had an idea of cane cosmetics and maybe with these different canes come different strengths(buffs and maybe debuffs for tradeoff or because its funny) and you can make the different canes something you find going throughout a run or an unlockable selectable before a run(this is an idea for endgame towards the end of development once you bave the gameloop settled). Just in general I think that there is plenty of possibilities with the cane. Again huge fan, amazing work, and cannot wait to see what is done.
Thank you!!! And agreeeed there is a lot of potential there! I have a couple cane-ish relics, and I've been toying with the idea of "you can only have one of those at a time," too.
I know that you pressed for time. However I think the best part about a boss fight is usually getting a reward for beating it which is related to the boss. Adding some form of relic that drops by each boss or an ability would be really cool. It could even be a reskin of an existing mechanic that you can equip. Regardless your game is awesome keep up the good work.
Yesss right now there's one "personal" relic per boss, but I think it'd be even cooler to have two relics themed after each boss, and you get to choose one (each would have very different effects)
Omg, congrats on 10k!!! Im so excited to explore the finished game and make so many builds. It's so interesting to see so many designs and characters based on myths and real life.
Thank you so much!! It's gonna be so cool to see what kind of things folks like you discover in the game... I feel like my job is just to facilitate a deep and wide space to allow that!
hey, I usually dont comment but i feel like now its the time. I know its a 100 day challenge and all, but this project is getting really really good and I think you rushing things because of the time pressure would affect the game quality and your mental health. Seeing the depths of the story of the enemies is awesome and more well thought characters are one of the charms of the game, which I really love. I really hope you read this and understand, I have seen so many cool projects abandoned and this is one I do not want to be abandoned English is not my first language, so sorry if wrong lmao
Thank you for the thoughtful comment!! No matter what happens, I won’t be abandoning or pushing this out rushed. My *planned* release date isn’t til February, I’m just hoping for the main game loop to be completely playable in August so I can bring the polish, balance, and expansion after 😄
I really enjoy your content man. Not only do you have good content with good editing, you advertise your game and also teach! Iv learnt a lot by following this series. You actually go into detail about the issues you come across and what you have done to fix it!
You're a lot younger than me when I started :D I'd say start wide, then go narrow. Start wide by doing a little of everything. Learn an engine, learn the basics of a programming language, draw, 3D model, learn about writing and story, learn a DAW, watch a lot of videos and be a sponge (even if you don't understand most of it, you will later). Then pick the discipline that excites you the most (programming, graphics, animation, narrative, sound, VFX, art, music) and really try to master it. Having mastery will make you employable, but it'll also make you more confident in your ability to learn other skills. And above all have fun, and remember that getting frustrated means you're moving in the direction of learning.
I was curious, are you going to add seeds or a file for the map so that speedrunners can do a category based around a particular seed or so that friends could play the same map? Not sure how hard that would be to implement though 🤣
I don’t think it’s too bad to implement! (Famous last words) but I thiiink all you have to do is have all the random values pulled from the same source with a seed that’s set at the beginning of a run!
I have an Idea 💡 What if at the start of the game, you weight 5 minutes the cat will throw a rope down and if you climb it it leads to a mini-game about the cat
Are you set on the color scheme for Caduceus? It's probably nitpicky of me, so I won't hold it against you if you just ignore this, but it feels kind of busy...👀 👀 👀 I wonder if you simplified it to 1 or 2 main colors (then the .5 + .5 for highlights and shadows) it be more cohesive? I really like the gemstone and the gold, but the lavender & purple throw me off. But again, ignore me if you really like it!
I think you should implement some waterfalls in the new area to match with the pirate theme of the boss of the zone, the waterfalls could act like a sort of elevator and to make them a little bit more deadly there could be some little fish-type ennemies that will fall on on you while you are in the waterfall
Your 10000 subscribers is well deserved and I'm sure the number will now build rapidly. There are many channels which are not nearly as informative, interesting or as useful as yours and they have many more subscribers. It is simply down to a growth factor over time, so by the end of your hundred days I'm predicting 25000 subscribers MINIMUM! Good luck and keep doing what you are doing.
I know its a roguelike and all but man the wall-hit thingy you implemented just woke up something inside my 2d platformer craving-soul, parkour seems so satisfying with this !!
I saw the original contest video earlier today, then binged through all of the devlogs and (if you can't tell) think that this game is really cool!!! a little sound design idea i had was the music gaining an echo as samuel loses health and gets closer to death? idk i just really like aural feedback of a player state and i feel like an echo really emphasizes the feeling of being alone in death
@@LighthoofDryden happy you think so! i loved the music-focused devlog (and your mom is an absolute icon), so i just wanted to throw a sound idea at you!
Im becoming a member day 1 I love how much you've done with the game. It's crazy its been 50 DAYS since the competition. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration for me :D
I'm absolutely in love with your project since I've seen it on the competition (i hope you remember me from earlier videos). The only thing that bothers me is that i cant buy this game when it comes out on steam ❤️. Keep it up my friend
This is so incredibly true!! I feel like the original competition was that initial 90% and now I’m in the *true* 90% of it. “Just a few more enemies and some decorations and a few more boss moves” = more time than the first 3 weeks ☠️
