I remember reading Dime’s Riffer Madness article on this song and he mentions specifically how tricky the inside picking is from the A5 back to the 6th string (level 8) Ever since then I’ve always done it that way (before that I was somewhere around level 5)
Yeah, there's days when it still feels really difficult for me;) Thanks for sharing this insight, hopefully others will find it helpful and somewhat of a relief!
Awesome lesson. I was looking for some inspiration on something new to learn an Dime is difficult to learn on youtube from but this is a perfect format for myself. Thanks
Read my mind! Dimes way is pretty tricky!!. Thanks for video.! Zakk even plays it this way so don't be ashamed;) looking forward to trying this later home from work.
I’ve always had trouble with that riff so I play it at the 0-3-5 position like ya did at first. An when I saw Dime play it I knew it was gonna be hard cuz, I remember even listening to it that the A chord note didn’t have that single note sound an sounded like a bar chord. But if I’d stop being a lazy ass an slow down an take my time I know I’d get it. But sometimes if I try something an can’t get it right away an try it again maybe a couple months down the road, I’ll get it down. Good video, PEACE!
I did not know about starting with upstrokes.. I even watched footage ot Dime playing it, and I just assuned he was accenting upstrokes but starting with downs.. have to try this. Waaaaait, now you are starting with downstrokes! Wait.. now I'm super confused. Ok, I am doing it right, but believe me it's hard to get to get it to sound good and clean. Great video though..❤
Here I came to find, I wasn't wrong on playing downstrokes, but, wtf!! yes it was way difficult...I was confused on seeing many and you now, play it on upstrokes, but I definitely like the downs sound much more.. But, really i tell you I was going to watch a Dime's video for the 1000ksss time, to take away my doubt... Finally you solved it in the end! Thanks for this great one, playing it level by level and trying to change pick direction will be a great challenge ..! Definitely, you are the best playing Pantera ! So many nuances, and it's just a riff... Love Dime, no doubt he is one of the greatest, thanks Atilla, once more!!❣
Dude, I just gotta say it. This lesson is awesome and totally rules. This song was super hard for me to play and progressively going up with levels made it so much easier. I was also definitely playing it wrong, so thanks for helping me correct that! Maybe make some tutorials for some more trendkill songs? I’m trying to learn the full album, it’d really be a huge help. Thanks for todays lesson, man!
Thanks man! Ive actually done a couple lessons from Trendkill, You can look for them on my channel. I did a lesson to Floods solo, Suicide Note riffs, Sandblasted riffs, 10;s solo etc... Plus Ive done quite a few playthroughs such as Living Through, Sandblasted (full song), Suicide Note II (Official Live version), War Nerve, Trendkill, 13steps, Underground in Amercia... Lots of stuff ;)
@@AttilaVorosOfficial yeah, I’ve been trying to learn war nerve. But man, the 10’s lesson was the BEST it helped me out so much! I couldn’t find any lessons on it! But yours was awesome dude
I start nearly everything with up stroke since I was a youngster, can’t get out of it but happy I play that way, even chords on the up stroke sound tough to me
@@AttilaVorosOfficial hey Attila thank for your reply mate 👍 mate just wanna say that you have become one of my favourite guitarists and I’m not kidding, dime is my favourite and I enjoy listening to you play like I do with dime, you truly play like no other mate, keep up the good work, you’re a bloody legend on the twanger 👍
Love your videos. The best dime covers I’ve ever seen. Not trying to flatter or anything! So glad you ended up with level 8 being the “dimebag way”. I’ve seen so many other people cover it differently but it goes against what I saw in the dime clinic video, so I’ve often second guessed myself. If I’m not mistaken, was there a video of you covering this song doing one of the lower “levels”?
@@twthathug i see. Yeah that's one where You need some stamina plus technique, though it's more like going to the gym, if You do it, You'll gradually get better, but of course technique matters a lot;)
My Friend, if anyone, You can do level 8 for sure!! But actually if im not really feeling it or being exhausted I tend to do safe rounds of level 7 live;)
@@AttilaVorosOfficialLoving your channel mate! Any possible way that you could show us the main riff to SLAUGHTERED? I have no idea how Darrell played it. Thanks
@@bjquebedeaux3597 Thanks man! I did a full playthrough to Slaughtered: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vTsl_QenOAc.html&ab_channel=AttilaVoros Plus a lesson on the heavy riff at the end: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DAcwEe0G8JM.html&ab_channel=AttilaVoros
Okay, I've been looking at Dimebag playing this riff. I'm pretty sure, almost positive, that he's doing hammer-ons from "nowhere" after the A power chord going back to the low G etc.... Try it out and let me know what you think! It's way easier this way and I think it flows better IMO.
My mind blows when a try to play this riff starting with downstrokes, its just counterintuitive, so takes a lot of time to master it. So I have a question: does this technique sounds better than starting with upstrokes?
It is indeed super hard! And YES, I believe it sounds different! With upstrokes the accents are more pronounced, where's with downstrokes it swings a bit more
Oh god, that first version shouldn't even be taught! That's the bass riff and I HATE how 95% of guitar players on RU-vid play it that way. It's simply incorrect and now how Dime wrote or performed it live.
