When I was a kid I wanted a turbo grafx so bad. Now I’m all grown up & thanks to emulation I can finally try it out. Having a blast. Bonk’s revenge is such a good game.
That erra of games was great, I’m just getting into the pc engine now that I picked up a pc engine mini. I had a genesis growing up and my good friend had a turbo graphics 16 and I loved it he had all the big titles so I got to experience it back then when it came out. Sometimes we would trade our complete collections console and all games so I got to beat Splatterhouse, Ninja Spirit, Bonk, Keith Courage, legendary axe 2, never finished blazing lazers, but now I have 57 games on the mini witch I plan on completing them all.
Interesting list, but it's great to see more obscure titles like P47 getting some love. I thought I was the only one thinking it's much better than what people give it credit for. I certainly need to check out Red Alert, sounds like a game right up my alley
Wow, what a unique and unexpected list. Thanks for showcasing some of the lesser known games :) My top 9 goes something like this, purely based on fun: 1) Son Son II 2) Takahashi Meijin - New Adventure Island 3) Adventure Island - Wonder Boy: Dragon‘s Curse 4) Castlevania Dracula X - Rondo of Blood 5) Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair 6) Gradius II Gofer no Yabou 7) Jigoku Meguri - Bonze Adventure 8) Parasol Stars 9) Kyukyoku Tiger - Twin Cobra
Such a great list. Love your enthusiasm. I also love Alien Crush. Most other people say Devil's Crush is far superior, but I completely disagree. Alien Crush distilled everything down to a simple fun idea that is more cohesive.
Wow, Final Zone II getting some love?! I thought I was the only one who enjoyed it, lol. And Daisenpu Custom? I tried to like it, but the nearly invisible sniper shots killed it for me (no pun intended). Incredibly frustrating. I'll have to check out Red Alert!
May as well just made this about your top whatever favorite shooters. You're supposed to balance your list, bro. This list doesn't help me if I hate shooters.
I like guys like this reviewer who really get exited over the the 16 bit erra of games, this guy is a true gamer. The 16 bit erra was special and exiting. After owning a snes and genesis I’m just now seeing what the pc engine is all about and it was a special console in a niche of its own. I really like the games being on hugh cards and the packaging of the games, they were neatly packaged with not much wasted space like genesis games, and Super Nintendo games had that cheap cardboard around the cartridges that would get bent out of shape. I did really like the way Nintendo packaged da games however. High cards were cooler than those big cartridges that Sega and Nintendo had, you felt like at the time you had something high tech and special. Another thing which I really liked was the color scheme of the turbo graphics 16 that black and orange was really eye catching and the controller was really cool. If only the turbo graphics was the size of the pc engine and if only the pc engine stuck with the tg16 color scheme it would have been perfect. The core graphics was nice looking too. White plastic over time turns yellow and dark brown and looks dirty. I lived in Japan for 14 years and see why the Japanese like small consoles because they are dealing with smaller living spaces and compact is the way to go.
UK Megadrive games came in black plastic boxes with a cartridge holding mechanism to hold the cartridges in place and had a great black with white grid lines background on the paper inserts before they started to produce the games in that blue strip down the side. Those original UK games were to me the height of sophistication when marketing games. Would rather have the UK Sonic cover artwork than the Japanese and North American cases and artwork any day of the week.
Great list! I'd still consider Dracula's Curse the best Castlevania but rondo of blood is magnificent. My list would have included Ninja Spirit, Bonk and Samurai Ghost. Great call with Red Alert at number 1.
