Let's suppose, just for a moment, today is your lucky day…
…And you’ve just woke up to hear the news that you’re about to be crowned ruler of a potent royal dynasty.
Better yet - you learn that at your glorious coronation, you will get a magic wand to choose any place on Earth to rule.
With a wave, you’ll pick where you'd park your throne.
Would you prefer the lush hills of Tuscany, tracing the footsteps of the mighty Medicis - or perhaps the cherry blossom-laden lands of Kyoto, Japan - mirroring the legacy of the venerable Imperial House?

---------------------
To begin our sumptuous saga into the very heart of heraldic opulence, we must return to the 11th and 12th centuries - where we will witness the magnificent rise of the Republic of Genoa.
Situated along the northwestern fringes of Italy, this Republic burgeoned into a commercial titan - its supremacy extending over the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
This epoch was sculpted by the rising clout of city-states, with Genoa carving its niche as an early modern maritime republic - standing toe to toe with formidable maritime contemporaries like Venice, Pisa, and Amalfi.
In the 1600s, the Grimaldi family’s strategic transition into the French court as highly respected - if “foreign” - princes granted them recognition as rulers of small principalities.
This new status provided them a stronger platform to expand their influence - fostering their legacy in Monaco and far beyond, scripting a remarkable chapter of ascension in the history of Europe.
A shining example of this was the celebrated union of Jacques the fourth de Matignon with the Princess Grimaldi of Monaco.
These well-crafted marital ties not only secured them an inheritance of exquisite French estates but also facilitated their frequent sojourns to Paris - specifically at the stately Hôtel Matignon.
The pivotal Franco-Monegasque Treaty of 1861 crystallized a crucial transition for both Monaco and its ruling Grimaldi family.
This monumental treaty not only acknowledged Monaco's sovereignty but also established fresh boundaries for the principality - which until then had been functioning under the protective wing of the Kingdom of Sardinia as dictated by the Treaty of Vienna.
Consequently, Monaco handed over the towns of Menton and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin to France - receiving in return a princely sum of 4 million francs.
This significant event sculpted a profound effect on the trajectory of the Grimaldi family and propelled the growth of Monaco.
With the dawn of the Belle Époque, Monaco transformed into a tourist hub - largely thanks to the Monte Carlo Casino's establishment in the late 19th century.
Emerging from the ravages of World War II, the immediate Post-World War 2 Era found Monaco rising like a phoenix, under the leadership of the Grimaldi family and their patriarch - Prince Louis II.
The complexities of the post-war period called for astute political navigation, focused on reconstructing the principality's economy and infrastructure.
During this transformative period, Monaco found new vigor in the burgeoning tourism sector and the emergence of novel industries.
Now, Prince Rainier III's ascension to Monaco's throne in 1949 sparked significant changes for the principality and the Grimaldi dynasty.
Through strategic domestic and foreign policies, he modernized and diversified Monaco's economy - stimulating growth in key areas such as tourism, finance, and real estate.
Now, the tragic passing of Grace Kelly in 1982 marked the start of a transformative era for Monaco.
Her marriage to Prince Rainier III had positioned the nation under the international limelight.
After her demise, their children - Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie - took on the task of shaping Monaco's future, their roles encompassing charitable, cultural, and diplomatic undertakings.
Despite public scrutiny and personal tribulations, the Grimaldis maintained their commitment to the principality.
In 2005, Prince Rainier III's death initiated a new epoch under Prince Albert II.
His ascendancy signified a shift in Monaco's policies, as he promoted modernization, economic robustness, and environmental sustainability.
Monaco - traditionally viewed as a tax haven due to its tax-friendly laws - began facing international pressure to reform its tax structure and increase transparency.

Chakri Dynasty plese. I heard that they are the true owner of Crown property and they just leased it to the government after the abolition of absolute monarchy. It is said that King Rama X is just right in getting it back. At least according to his supporters he is now paying taxes for these vast lands. The story of Chakri is similar to Monaco. The youtuber "Jack From Thailand" tackle this issue in his video titled as "King of Thailand : the richest king in the world?".

I have visited Monaco, and thought it lovely. While the atmosphere oozes affluence, it somehow feels a bit relaxed. The Spirit of Princess Grace still lingers, and the locals I met were kind.

In Monaco , you can actually feel the wealth all around you, but not the loud & flashy kind, although there is that as you near the casino. Still, considering how wealthy it is there, I found it pretty laid back & relaxing. Had a great time & met lots of ppl.

Awesome video! I went to Monaco several times when I was younger. I went with my uncle who did a lot of business there and I was a bit too young to really appreciate this, when I was around 9 or so. So about 21 years ago. I do remember watching the Monaco Grand Prix and we had a great spot on a balcony overlooking the finish line. I don’t remember much except my uncle talking business inside and some snacks a nice waiter gave me. But I particularly recall a lady in a black dress and a super big black hat and Pearl necklace, I remember she seemed like she wasn’t very kind. Maybe she doesn’t like kids hahahah. Anyway, interesting times. I think these family deep dives are fantastic! François Grimaldi is a mad lad! Absolute legend 😂😂😂

I was arrested in Monaco for walking down the street. Later released after they determined I was merely a NATO soldier on vacation--and not a delinquent. Police just popped out of a door in a wall. This incident alerted me to the power of clandestine camera surveillance.

The most obnoxious repugnant arrogant overstep of America, France, and other countries is to think it is their place to even have an opinion on another state's tax policy. The state in question needs to have a policy which addresses it's needs. A state like Monaco is not obliged to adopt policies which aren't conducive to their success, and the policies of the other nations, to always think to increase tax is ultimately proof that they are the ones with a failing policy regarding how they structure their economies.

I think you were in error when you suggested that the scene for the title of the movie “Casino Royale” was Monaco. I live in Portugal and I’ve heard many times that the casino in Estoril just outside of Lisbon was the location of both the book and the movie and here’s why: Estoril has long been a haven for deposed kings and other royalty, including the deposed king of Spain, and King Edward and Wallis Simpson, who spent time here. During the Cold War, the Hotel Estoril, as well as the casino, was a hornets nest of spies on either side of the iron curtain; Russian and eastern European “visitors“ came and engaged in spy games with British and American “visitors.“ It was well-known, and Ian Fleming, who himself was a spy, hobnobbed around the casino royale in Estoril, and his book is loosely, based on the goings-on of Spies, who were visiting for years.. So I would double check your facts. Also, Grace Kelly had a very bad reputation in Hollywood (if you know what I’m talking about) and if you don’t, I would go to Ms. Aloudes bio on her. Let’s just say she had a big appetite. Real big.

Its really intresting how communist flock to this channel. No we should not give away money to poor. Countrys should have less beurocracy and less taxeses so evryone can get by and thrive. if you look around then you notice that Government robes all with taxes and only thouse who are smart and active enought can avoid thouse taxes and not be kept down and they thrive. Communist attitute is that, i dont care that im poor, i want also others to be poor, instead of trying reach higher before 1world war, average taxes were 8-40 times smaller than today. And some reason people think its normal. And thouse countrys who have tax burden 40% think oh we live in tax paradise couse there is countrys who have 60-93% tax burden. In reality people should demand low taxes and if demanding dosent help people should avoid taxes by avoiding activitys that allow heavy taxing. And do business there where is no taxes or low taxes.
