Another great video Kyle - your presentation style is hugely engaging and watchable btw. I even went back and rewatched your unique perspectives on how well X-men still measures up today and set the definitive template for Marvel's connecting universe, your deep dive into 'Passengers' (agree that it works well exactly as it is and refreshingly addresses themes not usually covered by mainstream movies as often) and your wonderful presentation of one of my favourite movies, 'The Ghost and the Darkness' (gotta love that 'hero shot' of Val towards the end!). I totally agree with your thoughts on 'Dragged Across Concrete' and S. Craig Zahler is definitely one of the most interesting filmmakers to appear recently with 3 incredible features already, I would love to see you do a video of this film at some point or why you believe Zahler is such a breath of fresh air compared to other emerging talents in today's industry. I'm not sure if you've seen it already but I would thoroughly recommend checking out 'All the Old Knives' when you next get a chance - it's more of an old school thriller where the emphasis lies heavily on character and builds tension even from a simple dinner scene (much of the film is a two-hander) and it reminded me of the movies we used to see a dime a dozen of back in the 90s / early 2000s, the kind of movie that isn't even close to being the best in its genre but still feels like a 'gem' simply because of how rare it is to see a commercial movie for adults that doesn't have any IP attached and has competent actors, would love to hear your thoughts.
I so appreciate your attentiveness to my videos and to movies in general. I definitely have been considering making a video about 'Concrete'. 😁 Also, just put 'Old Knives' in my watchlist. We'll see how it goes!
Wow this is criminally underviewed. You make an amazing point both about how wokeness has killed creativity and forced the issues we find ourselves in now and Will was just another symptom.
