Built in 1854, the Kurhaus Hotel Fürstenhof officially opened its doors to on the 15th of May, 1902. Upon its opening, the Ballroom of the Hotel Fürstenhof was considered to be the largest in the state of Thuringia, with a max capacity of 1800 people.

By the 1930s, Social Democrats, Communists and the Nazi Party held political rallies in the hotel, with Adolf Hitler being the main speaker on the 23rd of October, 1932.
During the second world war, the Hotel was used as a rehabilitation home for wounded soldiers, and directly after the war it was used to house refugees and bombed out civilians.
Under the reign of the German Democratic Republic, the Hotel Fürstenhof (now known as the Stadthotel Eisenach) was modernized and continued to function as a hotel and extremely popular event space. By the 1980s, the hotel had fallen into a state of disrepair and was eventually closed in 1996.
Since its closure, the hotel has been left abandoned - with many failed attempts to save the building. The Hotel Fürstenhof was bought by a private investor in 2004 and has been locked in a long legal battle with the city to tear down the hotel.
Since then, large sections of the hotel have closed due to storms and arson attempts.
