This was made in 1983 yet it looks like they still had one foot in the 1970s. It's so foreign to anything that's on TV today. It had a kind of wholesomeness that you don't find.

was born in 1972 and can confirm that 1983 did indeed have one foot in the seventies. You will notice much the same thing looking at media from the early 50s, 60s, 70s or the 90s or early 2000s. Decades don’t have hard end or start dates.

For those who are interested, the russian in the note fully translated: Please take care of my bunny, his name is Bunnicula. He protects those who love him. I reckon even though first correctly identified as russian they later keep refering to it as romanian more in tone with Dracula's country of origin but also i guess as the word is easier for kids to say when they might tell about the film, I remember struggling through words with two ss in them! :D Honestly wish these where available on dvd or blu. It would be a shame for these shows to be lost someday.

It was on vhs and it may be possible to find a copy on someplace like eBay or Amazon but I couldn't find anything about it being on DVD. It would be nice to find it but most likely it would get just as lost. Places like RU-vid it seems is the best place to find the really old animated shows. I even found that old Raggedy Ann and Andy movie on here. It was fantastic to see it. I've been able to find so many shows from when I was little.

@@stevenconnelly1468 you may want to if you like a story with intellectual cats. It is found on RU-vid. It's a thriller based on a book from the perspective of a cat. Not suitable for younger kids.

Not to hate on the boomerang adaption, but I like how Harold isn’t a complete idiot in the version.

Bunnicula was my favorite book as a child. I kinda remember seeing this version as a kid, but I don’t know why they would scooby do it like this. Mr Monroe was a professor he didn’t work at a haunted plant (scooby do) and Mrs Monroe was a LAWYER. The story was so great, kids obviously loved it or else they wouldn’t have made a special of it so WHY do producers have to change it? Fortunately I happen to have kept my book on tape version read by Lou Jacobi which is brilliant and 👌

Amen! There were no neighbors involved at all. The mystery was kept entirely in the family. And the rabbit didn't go all demonic either. He just slept all day and went after the vegetables at night. The things they will do to juice up a movie.

I can't believe how far back the character of Bunnicula goes. I'm only 32 and only heard of the cartoon on the crappy Boomerang with all the Hanna Barbera cartoons taken off.

My son loves Bunnicula. We set our DVR to record them. They are on channel 298 BOOMERANG (DIRECTtV), usually after hours. Another great show is Chowder, seems maybe the same era

I remember reading Bunnicula in elementary school, so I only have a vague recollection of it. Things I remember about it include a suspicious cat and dog trying to figure out if the new cute pet rabbit is a vampire, but never finding decisive proof either way. Things I don't remember are factory lay-offs, wolves, and telekinesis. Although I never saw this animated adaptation of it 'til now, I'm sure young me would have dug it.
