Hell yeah!! I love the fanzines & flyers - I have the "Welcome to 1984" flyer, too. I have tons of that stuff and SO glad I saved it. Thanks for keeping all that holy stuff!
I think the dude I met was the guitar player for No Labels. If so, he also played in Corrosion Of Conformity. However he may have been in Stillborn Christians.
I think the fanzines and flyers were the best part. Really great seeing those; you've kept them in good shape. And of course showing the ones you created is awesome. Thanks for the kind words. I think our exchange worked out well - you got a record that fits better in your collection than mine and I got some records I actually listen to. Rock on Vinyl Richie!
Always loved the Jellybeans comp, still pull that one out from time to time. Love the zines...I wish I still had all of mine, but lost them all in a garage fire in 97. Very cool that you have the SOA single. I've been wanting it for a while, but every time Ian represses it, it sells out before the emails go out. That Johnny Thunders debut is so good, going to show it in an upcoming video...and the fact that Phil Lynot played bass on it makes it that much better.
I remember in May of 1980 seeing Gang Of Four at The Starwood ( With The Plugz ) In early June was looking forward to seeing Joy Division ➗️ there but Ian Curtis had other plans.
I’m always in awe of your collection of punk, but I understand that those were just bands you liked at the time, so ya bought their stuff, and obviously not cuz you thought it’d be collectible some day… Because I really didn’t get into it til the late 80’s, and only knew of these bands from zines, and of course also didn’t have the internet to check different stuff out. Seeing those fanzines made me realize I haven’t even seen one for a long damn time. Gotta find em now. I once had a copy of that Dischord comp of the 1st four 7”s. Did you ever get a chance to see Teen Idles. That was Ian’s 1st band, correct? Or was he in others besides minor threat or Fugazi. I only remember having a 7” of Egg Hunt. Those flyers were awesome to see.
That second Angry Samoans cover is awesome - I’ll be in the lookout for that! The 7 inch Big Black Cheap Trick and Kraftwerk covers is so cool. I’m laughing at some of the comp titles. I love your shirt - I’ve briefly seen that group on YT. Stillborn Christians?!?! 😂😂😂 The flyers are really cool - I’ve never seen anyone show them. Plus you designed your own!! You went into a mini-sermon on rare vs valuable. I’m trying not to write that you need more Queers but I swear I won’t!! When I’m Rome Do As the Vandals - awesome colorful cover.
I love the big black covers 45. I dig it when bands replicate other bands covers like they did on that 45. I guess the residents did it with the Beatles, it always makes me wonder how many people flip past them without realizing what they are.
Nomeansno AND Hüsker Dü mentioned in the same video. This might be my new favorite video of yours. Cool fanzines, I have some horror movie fanzines only. I just bought that Propaganda Hardcore ’83 comp from Greece. Good stuff man, cheers!
NoMeansNo & Husker Du did some shows together in 1985 around the Pacific Northwest. (Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Portland) I have posters from 2 of those shows. Too bad i can't post them here to show you.
@@SaintMartins That’s cool! I remember seeing on another Vinyl Community channel’s (Martin Jones) video one flyer of a gig with both aforementioned bands. He used to have it framed in the background. To be honest, it’s a bit of an odd combo of bands but they both are my favorite bands. Would have loved to be at one of those gigs.
Richie, this was a Grand Slam! This might be your longest video yet, but I watched the whole enchilada in one big bite. My fave album title is ''City Baby Attacked By Rats'', it's more ''punk sounding'' than ''Country Baby Attacked By Cats''. I love the cover art on the X-X album. The band name is pronounced ''X blank X''. John Morton from the Electric Eels was in that band, so was Anton Fier, the drummer who was in The Golden Palominos. The self-titled first Golden Palominos from 1983 is one of my most listened to albums, it's avant- funk and downtown New York punk. Those fanzines and flyers made me smile, and brought me back to the good ole' daze.
@@vinylrichie007 Yeah, using Wikipedia is not necessary in order to make excellent videos. That first The Golden Palominos album is a unique recording, check it out.
About that Sonic Youth & Nirvana poster @19:00 the other band listed as "S.T.P." is not Stone Temple Pilots, it's an all female band named STP (Stinky Toilet Paper) A short lived Alt Rock band from NYC.
Very cool collection; wasn’t around for the first or second have of punk. Although, Negative Approach, Husker Du and the Dictators all came after my pre-teen love of Kiss. Love hearing your stories and thoughts about the music.
@@vinylrichie007 Keep an eye on Alternative Tentacles website. They are supposed to reissue most of Nomeansno back catalogue. They already put out last year one 7” (Dad/Revenge). The originals go for stupid money these days.
Aaah The Exploited! Perhaps the most important band I ever saw. Around 78-81 I saw all the punk- new wave bands including Discharge who u also show. Early Cure , Banshees, joy division etc I saw the exploited and they were like a cartoon. This was to promote the first album. They were a joke to me. I turned my back on that shit and never listened to them again. I went in a completely different direction listening to 60s psych. Funny old world innit
I really enjoyed seeing your art work. I did not know you were an art major but then again I also don’t know your favorite for or color lol. Rare vs good. The psych market is a prime example of that. All these rare psych albums that go for mega dollars but the music sucks. I am surprised the cabinets behind you were not empty after showing all of these albums
@@vinylrichie007 Wattie had a heart attack in Dec of 2022 but recovered thankfully. But he recently posted about a scan for cancer that was less than optimistic and cancelled Exploited tour of America
I never did like the name "Punk Music" right from the get go... Punks in my time were guys you smacked around if they were close enough. That's the 50s and 60s mind set all us hoods had. LOL
I've got all the Maximum Rock N Roll mags issue 1-200. (Yeah, I know, I'm hot shit) Nice vid but Joy Division isn't punk. Only a few of Warsaw's songs from 77 are punk. PS---For all you Angry Samoans fans. You have good taste. Back From Samoa is a KILLER punk/HC album. But they recorded other stuff too. One album is STP Not LSD If you are a fan of this album, please know the album version is badly mastered. It was somehow fucked up by maybe the engineer. I forget exactly what Metal Mike told me. Metal Mike said if you want to hear how it was supposed to sound, the cassette tape is the one version you must own.
@@vinylrichie007 And no one was saying in 1979 and 1980 "Let's go to see a punk band, Let's see Joy Division." They had left punk far behind by that time. . But yes, everyone's definition of punk is different.
@@willieluncheonette5843 Actually in 79 and 80 people were certainly saying lets go to the Punk show. Also Joy Division and other similar bands were in the Punk section of the record store. At least in LA there was no Post Punk section in 79.
@@vinylrichie007 Yes, of course in 79, 80 they were saying Let's go to a punk show. Just not saying Let's see that punk band, Joy Division. No one I know thought JD was a punk band in 79 or 80. I mean, just listen to their records! And the fact that some misguided owner of a record store had them in the punk section means nothing to me. Punk was the hot thing then so many non punk bands flew under the punk banner and record stores joined in. If you think JD is a punk band that's fine. We just disagree. Many still think Television, Blondie and Talking Heads were punk bands. And that's fine too.
