Star Wars The Acolyte by Leslye Headland is supposed to be some impactful Star Wars shows full of subtlety and nuance, but no-one knew. While the professional critics reviews have loved the shows, the audience had a different opinion. Despite Amandla Stenberg attacking journalists for no reason, they've tried to run interference while running out of excuses. At this time, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy came out of the woodwork to attack the fans once more. A very co-incidentally timed talking about fan comments of a movie no-one wants. To think that bringing Rey Palpatine back to Star Wars is insane enough, but to have learnt NOTHING from the fans and actively ignore their comments while you do it? Insane. The distraction can't quite work though, when The Acolyte is such a disaster, even the journalists are beginning to come out with the truth. But what did you think? Nobody in my 34 years of life and 4 years of film school did I ever hear ANYONE complain about representation. No one ever said to me, "man that story was ok but the diversity really saved it."

As a female Star Wars fan, I want the dangley bits. I want the men's story, because their stories are not about gender, it is about character, morals, goals. Female led and driven stories suck, it is bashing men, cringe Mary sues, like...does this director actually know what female Star Wars fans want?

But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something. FRODO: What are we holding on to, Sam? SAM: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

So the same people who cry about women being sexualized in shows & games are saying the best thing about this show is men being sexualized?

"Star Wars is a lot of things, but it is rarely sexy"...how is it possible to be so stupid to not know just how much of an effect the bikini slave costume had on pop culture?! I've seen other shows reference it! One key example, Supernatural, where Dean has to try and coach their lesbian friend on enticing some guard and when asking about if she has any tattoos she mentions she has one of Leia, in the slave costume, straddling a pair of dice. No $hit is the entire internet like "What?!" at that statement...

When you make entertainment synonymous with identity any criticism of it becomes outrageous. That's one of the biggest problems with modern entertainment media.

The film obviously wasn't made for me so why would I waste $23 AUD on something that wasn't made for me by someone that openly admits they have no experience in making movies. From a business point of view, if you have an IP that has (well, had) such a huge audience like Star Wars does, wtf are you doing trying to “bring in new audiences”? What? NO. The audience built in is massive. You should have been doing everything you could to KEEP the audience you already had. Also, what experience does this activist “director” think she has that translates into a completely different and fictional universe? I’m guessing, like all activists before her, she’ll treat the Star Wars universe as if it’s Los Angeles. Fact is, their constant “patriarchy” complaining doesn’t fit in Star Wars. There’s no basis for their form of feminism and racism in the Star Wars universe. They have to inject it in to it where it never existed before.

"Activist" has to be the most hilarious term to appear among the lunatic fringe. Those new moviegoers don't exist. If they did they'd be drowning out our criticisms. To say these people are delusional is an understatement.

I will never understand the obsession with claiming things having terrible reviews is "review bombing". Think about it for a second. What these people are actually trying to say is that what they claim to be a tiny minority of haters is making multiple accounts to leave bad reviews & thus bring the review score down. If that were true then all they would need to do to make review bombing not work is have the people who did like the product leave good reviews. If so many more people loved that show as these people always claim, then the simple act of asking the fans to leave a review would give the positive score such an overwhelming majority that no amount of fake profiles downvoting could ever make the score come down in any kind of meaningful manner. So where are all the "fans"? If it's truly just a minority of haters leaving bad reviews where are all the fans to counteract them? Could it be that these fans don't fucking exist? Thought so.

What I love about the Acolyte is that it has a bunch of female characters but the 2 most interesting ones that have any depth and are competently acted are male (sith guy and squid game jedi). Even in a tv series that makes a ton of risks like the Acolyte they are scared or unable of writing a deep or flawed or vulnerable female character.

What gets me as I catch up on all the old Star Wars content I never saw yet (pre Disney mostly) I learn that almost everything claimed by Kennedy, Chinoy, Hedland, is simply wrong, all of the content has already appeared in Star Wars in one way or another, these Female Protagonists, already exist, as Jedi (remember the first Jedi to go in Acolyte was a Woman not sure how that even fits into the activism angle they seem to hold dear) Female Sith, pretty sure the Witches already existed as they are ie all women, long before Hedland got her mits on the show she cannot even bother to learn about before making, the greatest problem with Star Wars content right now is not even the 'activism' or perhaps shift of focus on protagonists, it is the massive waste of money on short run seasons that cost more than a Major Cinema Release and bring less than a 2% return because they are made for a streaming platform that is in house, they really think they can make money from Disney+ and spend Cinema level money on a 8 episode seasoned show, that blew what $130 million before they even started the filming process, Disney Stockholders need to start asking where all that money has gone because there is no way those sets in that movie cost that much to make or that the stories are even well written, or the actors even went to acting lessons. if I wake tomorrow to learn that Kennedy and others has been accused (formally) of ripping off Disney for Billions, my response is going to barely even register, and my coffee won't be spat out in shock... Because quite simply Shareholders are getting shafted by someone as this companies stupidity drains Billions from its coffers and expected returns.

Hey @Disparu - Knowing that Amandla Stenberg's father is Danish, I'm reminded of the poem by Rudyard Kipling. The quote says "once you have paid him the Danegeld/ You never get rid of the Dane."
