For more than 10 years now, fans and filming location hunters have been flocking to Martha’s Vineyard to make their pilgrimage to all the filming locations from one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. Jaws. And one of those filming locations is Gay Head Light in Aquinnah. This is the location of the famous giant billboard, the Mayor’s classic line “for Christ’s sake tomorrow’s the 4th of July!”, and of course, the lighthouse itself. But another highlight of this location for Jaws fans is none other than “the Hooper rock”. It’s a quick shot but it stands out and is memorable as Richard Dreyfuss looks on to Chief Brody with a look of frustration, perched upon a large boulder after the Mayor shuts down their attempts to close the beaches. For 10 years or so, fans have been coming in search of the whereabouts of that rock. Most of them settling for a shot that they assume must be the correct one because of its current placement. But unfortunately, it is not the correct rock…..and the true whereabouts of the ACTUAL Hooper rock have remained a mystery….until now. With the help of another location hunting friend of mine by the name of @JamesGelet and his keen eye for detail, together he and I have solved the mystery of the Hooper rock and confirmed its whereabouts.
And as of the uploading of this video, there is a plan to get this info in front of the appropriate individuals to have the Hooper rock put back to its rightful place for future Jaws enthusiasts and filming location hunters to enjoy and get “the shot” for the foreseeable future. And YOU can help!…by sharing this video! Let’s get the word out there for future generations of Jaws fans to enjoy! Together, let’s make this happen! Thanks for watching!
