Learn how to make the Adare Scarf/Shawl with Bonnie! This is an intermediate level crochet project where you can learn how to crochet the Large Braided Cable, Post Ribbing, the Low Front Ridge and the Celtic Weave.
Materials: 1 hank of Greenwood's Yakity Yak (60% superwash Meriino, 20% yak, 20% silk, 400 yds, 100 g), in each of these colors: Aegean, Turquoise, & Aqua. This yarn is available from Greenwood Fiber Works both as single hanks and as a kit: greenwoodfiber....

YEAHHH!!! I finished it. Thank you sooo much Bonnie. Everybody I showed it, could not believe its crochet and everybody said, its too complicated, they could not do that. Thanks to your wonderful tutorial. I was able to do it and all I did before was simple díshcloth style plain double crochets. The miracle on this project, as wool is quite expensive in New Zealand, like pretty much everything, I bought wool from the op-shop, which is hard to find in such amounts. No clue how much is it was and if it will be enough. The wool finished 7 stiches before completing the project which is not visible at all. So the whole project was supported by higher sources. I am sooo happy Bonnie.

Hi Bonnie, I am on the way to do this beauty. Never done such a complex pattern. At row 44 now. You explaining and showing it very well. It would be helpful when you say now and again how many stitches there should be on a certain row to check the numbers. I am going backwards and forwards as I am doing misstakes.... Funny, wishes come true. After I was posting this comment and carried on with the video you counted the stitches first time. 3 were missing in my work. Luckily easy to add them somewhere in the middle. Stitch count now and again is very helpful. Many thanks.

I used a worsted weight and a size I hook it seems bulky for a scarf but it’s winter and cold where I live in the Pacific Northwest, the scarf is considerably larger than the one she is making as she is using a fingering yarn , and a smaller hook.😊

You can make this larger by continuing to repeat the pattern. Once you understand the increases this is easy to do. You could even extend the braided cable and Celtic Weave sections as well.

Thanks Bonnie, it’s so beautiful and I’m learning a lot. Took me a while to realize the written pattern had the st counts for each row at the end of pdf! You could push more for that :D. My bad for being hasty though. I have struggled some with the st count anyway however on a few places and have had to rip out many times. Maybe I’m counting different but can you check my example here and see if you understand what’s going on? Example: I’ve finished row 55. I should have 75sts according to the patterns st count. But I have 76, and in the video you also seem to have 76? You start R55 with a chain (that we don’t include in the count) followed by 2dc in first st, 1dc in next st, followed by the celtic weave sets of 4st in 18 sets, ending with 1dc in last turning chain. 2+1+(4*18)+1=76. Can you please help me understand what I’m doing wrong? Thank you! 😊

The second stitch after the first low front ridge is absolutely the hardest pattern I have ever attempted, I have pulled it out and restarted at least 5 times I was having problems figuring out where the rebel crochets go and which direction front or back ??????😂❤😊

The large braided cable is a multiple of 9 + 2 + starting chain, the Celtic Weave is a multiple of 4 + 2 + starting chain.

You should be able to find an acrylic sock weight yarn to substitute for this. Also, alpaca yarn is very different (from the camel family, not sheep) and can be a great substitute for those allergic to wool. That is, as long as it has not been processed on the same equipment that is used for wool. Here is a yarn that may work: www.cascadeyarns.com/product/cherub-sock

This is beautiful and I've made a start on mine. I'm actually using thinner yarn so I have adapted an im making more increase rounds and I also started with 2 cables instead of one. I want my 3 sections to be same length though. So could you tell me the length of this. I know it can be shorted or longer but I would like to know what total to aim for so I can divide it an make each section similar size . Any help would be appreciated:)

Hi Bonnie, I am so excited to be making the Adare scarf / shawl as I have had a personal connection with Adare Manor in Ireland. I have found the Braided Cable and weave challenging and had to rip back many times before I ‘got it’ and have been working from you tube. I am wondering where, I would be able to get the written pattern which would make it easier, I think? It is such a beautiful piece of work. You are very talented.
