My GF and I were the viewers at 15:05, and we were so happy to meet up with you! I don't know if you remember but that was our first backpacking trip. The trail was very tough for us and we decided to head back after Lake colden the next day and not hike up MT.Marcy. I was pretty bummed about it but we got to meet you guys! Totally made our day. The following month we came back and hiked Mt.Marcy, the tallest Mountain in NY! Keep on making great episodes. You inspire us to keep on trekking.

ADK 46ER #9946 here. I wanted to let you guys know that I really appreciate how you showed all the viewers the thought process of when to climb and when not to climb. Too many people come to these peaks thinking it's a walk in the park and not realizing what they are really getting into. I'm glad you chose to not climb algonquin from the back side with full packs on as this is one of the steepest climbs of the 46. I also was impressed at your choice not to climb Colden during a thunderstorm. Most of my peaks were done in May and October so I feel your pain as far as the rain is concerned. Great video and also great example of responsible hiking! Keep on trekking!

As someone who grew up in Pennsylvania and travelled west several times as a kid, I always thought the east coast mountains were pretty boring, always being surrounded by the ridge and valley systems of Pennsylvania, covered in trees so you can't really make out the geology, views obstructed by canopy. Maybe it's just that I've been around them for so long, I had longed to move west. Then I saw some of your videos and realized, I just don't know enough about my environment to really embrace all of the amazing things around me. Perhaps the scenery isn't that of jagged rock and intense peaks, but still offers an incredible amount of things to see if you know what you're looking for. Watching these videos has encouraged me to learn a little be more about all of those plants and trees I've been passing up and turning hiking from just walking in the woods, into an adventure. Thanks guys, great videos.

I enjoyed this episode immensely. I hiked this area 50 years ago. I still remember the icy cold waters and the awesome shear drops of the mountains especially Mt Colden. I remember the lean-to shelters as having their own breed of aggressive mosquitoes (we were too environmentally conscious to use insect repellent). I do however have a comment to add about the philosophizing at the end. The comment that if people that don't have what they need they can be driven to aggression and hostility. I could justify stealing food. I cannot justify stealing a Gucci bag or big screen TV. There is a difference between needs and wants. Realizing this difference is the single most important key to personal happiness.

Fantastic episode and the music was brilliantly done, especially that last song. It's great to see more and more people start to explore what this state has to offer. I've spent the last 25 years backpacking here and it never gets old, not even the fickle weather. It's kind of a weird coincidence but check this out...Sintax77 was on Wright Peak looking for the wing of the bomber about 6 weeks after Robby and Thomas were there and on September 15th I did Gothics, Armstrong, and Upper Wolfjaw which is only about 8-10 miles away from where you were hiking. The wild thing is none of us knew what anyone else was doing and we all ended up planning hikes in the same small area (and we all filmed it). That's impressive considering how big the Adirondacks are. Thank you for all the hard work you guys put in and hopefully you'll be back for some more adventures here. There is an abundance of great hiking in NY.

@@AdventureArchives There is one area that I've been fascinated with for the past few years now and have done the same loop hike through the area 3 times, the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness. I've dubbed the loop "The Pond Tour" as it goes past 7 ponds and finishes up at Pharaoh Lake (plus a nice climb over Pharaoh Mtn). The Northville-Lake Placid Trail also runs through the heart of the ADK and there are various section hikes you can build on that. The NPT is your classic "green tunnel" as a lot of it passes through very secluded parts of the park in dense forests. There is a section of it that runs along Long Lake that is just stunning. Having watched you guys for a long time I kind of know what you'd be looking for in a trip and the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness would definitely fit that bill. Big skies, lots of water, and a 2,500' mountain you can climb with a killer view from the top. The loop runs about 22 miles but most of it is easy going. Much shorter trips can be built off of it as well. Coming from the Putnam Pond trailhead you could hit Putnam Pond, Grizzle Ocean (pond), and then head to Pharaoh Lake. There are 5 lean-to sites around the lake (#5 being the best one and they don't get crowded during the week) and most of the ponds have a lean-to as well. I'm sure finding a site for some tents/hammocks won't be an issue (I've only stayed in the lean-tos while hiking there with a tent for backup). I'd be more than happy to send over the GPS tracks and/or whatever would work best. I think I have a write-up around here somewhere.

@@AdventureArchives I was kinda disappointed you guys hiked the most popular and busiest hike in the ADK. The "High peaks" are overcrowded and trails are eroded. I live in Wilmington..just a stone's through away from Lake Placid. Suggestions for hikes: 1. Pharaoh Lake wilderness..43,000 acres of ponds, streams and one of the biggest interior lakes in a wilderness area....and lots of mushrooms. I was an assistant forest ranger there in 2011-.very appropriate for backpacking. There are two mountains- Treadway(moderate) and Pharaoh Mtn-steeper. If you hike past Rock Pond to Lily Pad Pond(or other way around) there is a 75 foot waterfall...just awesome..and not overcrowded. Favorite spot is Oxshoe pond. 2. Northville- placid trail. Usually is a 2 week backpack..like a mini AT. Can be done in sections. Runs the length of the ADK from Lake Placid in the north to Northville in the south. 3. Cranberry Lake loop; a 50 mile loop around a beautiful ADK lake. As for paddles: 1. St Regis Canoe area...tons of ponds and some short carries. 2. Bog River Flow/Lowes Lake-18 mile canoe trip near the Oswegatchie River. 3. Lake Lila in the William C Whitney Wilderness area. 1/3 mile carry to an interior lake. Many wilderness camping sites..including some islands. Sites are first come first serve. Can paddle to and day hike to Mt Frederica. 4. Stillwater reservoir is an interesting place too. Those are just a few suggestions..there are tons more. Best time for any kind of activity in the ADK is August to 2nd week in October. Spring brings black flies..July deer flies...if you like bugs. If you guys want a through hike..my husband or myself can arrange a pickup for a car relay.

One easy way to identify Black trumpets is that they usually grow in a big cluster. So if you find one, chances are you'll find many more. One of the tastiest mushrooms in my opinion! Beautiful video as always!

I did not honestly know that the Adirondacks were this beautiful. This is like the grand tetons, the porks of Pacific northwest and smoky mountains combined.

I haven't been to the Adirondacks in about 15 years. This was refreshing , thank you!. Spent a lot of time in the heart of the Adirondacks along 28 and 28N; North Creek, Indian Lake, Newcomb, Old Forge. Would hike, camp, paddle, fish. Also whitewater rafting each April, down the Hudson River gorge, in the freezing cold. Ah, that's what I miss about NY. Don't miss the city at all.

Gorgeous!! 🙌🏼 that’s my kind of forest! Looks a lot like here in northern Minnesota in the Boundary Waters or Superior Hiking Trail where it’s moss and lichen covered trees and ground! Love it!
