griffin has such a way with words. i mean seriously, he's really fuckin good at narration! and yeah, that last magnus rushes in literally made me cry. this campaign was so god damn funny, and yet so sad and beautiful, and amazingly acted/written/played at the same time!
Michael Hämmerle yes, but a lot of the time they have voice-overs that tell you just about the whole movie’s plot. I see a lot of movie trailers and ask myself afterwards, “well, they showed about everything. Why should I pay to go watch the actual movie?”
Remake the world based off Griffin's descriptions and any maps he's made, clone Griffin repeatedly so he can be all the npcs at once, and slap Justin, Travis, and Clint into the right clothes.
@@milomcilrath233 Until I got to that episode (and even after) I thought it was Hooty from The Owl House lol. I know it's not supposed to be / this show came out before that character was made, but it looks like him
See I saw this before I ever listened to TAZ and I remember thinking "That fucking clown elevator is gonna be quite the villain." and then he was just... a helpful but disturbing NPC...????
Whoever storyboarded this animation deserves a fuckton of respect. They showed nearly all of TAZ, kept it alien, strange, mysterious, fantastical and unimaginable, only hinted at some of the medium sized plot twists, completely left out the more emotional parts of the story and the Main Plot as to not spoil them.. just, so artistically done. Bravo!
“It’s there own damn fault” god, that’s so powerful and foreshadowing without being outright clear. It could be mistaken of them just being goofballs. Amazing
Took me a second lap at the whole Balance arc to realize that “Hey, what's your name? I'm about to tentacle your d*ck.“ is actually how Kravitz and Taako met. A real meet-cute XD
"And I tell ya what, if we ever meet each other in infinity, you can apologize to me and tell me you were wrong." Clint fucking crushed me with that line. Positivity in the face of cosmic absurdity and impending doom. Never fails to gut me. Don't sleep on Clint.
"John - thanks for the chess game, and… Kiss my ass, you sanctimonious bastard." Crazy to think that Merle meets John and plays out an over-half-century long relationship with him, right to this line, in _one episode._ Just brilliant storytelling. Shimmering, glimmering collaboration. I'll never find words to adequately express it. But you know. We all know.
I think the most painful part of it is how Magnus is reaching out towards Julia, with an expression like he's longing for it so much it hurts. The artist(s) did a great job making it feel like just a full on gut punch.
One thing I love about this trailer? It shows so much but spoils nothing. Nothing in there was enough to be able to predict any major plot points (Or funniest moments actually). Just a smattering teaser of all TAZ has to offer. The perfect trailer to beat all my dnd friends over the head with to make em watch it.
Yes I am so glad it doesn't because this video kinda sold my on listening to it in first place the and I am so so grateful for that. plus now I'm watching it again right before listening to the final episode and catching all of the quick little scenes they reference
Yea! I was watching it and I was thinking just that, like if someone with no knowledge watched this trailer they wouldn't have anything spoiled but they would understand the feeling and the composition of emotions and feelings that come with listening to it. Its like a perfect trailer
Yes! I showed this to my boyfriend to persuade him into listening, and now we just come back and rewatch this sometimes and see how many more scenes we recognize
Yes! I've been coming back to this ever since I started listening, and I love seeing which scenes I now know the context of! I'm on The Eleventh Hour so far, and I'm loving it so much
The first time I watched this trailer was when I was at the end of the series, I was constantly pausing and rewinding to get a glimpse of all the details that you only see for a second!
TAZ is over a hundred hours long, even cutting it down you'd still be looking at Lord of the Rings-movie-trilogy-length if you want to even remotely preserve the pacing and humor of the whole thing.
WAIT THIS IS LIKE THE 666TH TIME I'VE WATCHED THIS VIDEO AND I JUST REALIZED WHAT "and the creator of those creators" MEANS. ITS CLINT. HE'S THEIR DAD. IM SO STUPID.
No, it means the fans. They said in some episode of TAZ (maybe TTAZZ) That they call their fans creators because of all the stuff they create for them and “fans” doesn’t do that justice
don't mind me just making my yearly pilgrimage to this holy ground. been re-listening to balance for the first time since the finale while i'm recovering from a surgery and man i have to say i didn't realize how much i missed this show and how fucking GOOD this arc is. like it's absolutely unreal. especially since i'm relistening to it for the first time and noticing all the foreshadowing that's been going on since the very first lunar interlude, it really makes you appreciate griffin's writing.
Dude. I flipped when they found the skeleton with the cane in wave echo cave. When the director mentioned it in like ep 8 or so, she mentioned the bad guys very briefly, and I was slike "oh shit"
There are so many quick moments that happen in this and when you catch them, you can't breathe either from laughter or sadness. Magnus sees Julia, Taako rages when his show is over, Merle pulls down Magnus' pants, Taako reaching out to save Magnus...so good!
Holy hell I watched it for like the fifteenth time and noticed the scene with Taako shoving cooking supplies off of a counter and you can see Sazed in the background and holy HELL
Taako has Quantum Hair, that only exists in a specific state while it's being perceived. The moment it's no longer being perceived, its state of existence changes.
I literally just spent a week listening to the entire thing. I did (in the most literal sense) nothing else. I got up, ate, sat on the couch listening to it for seven fucking days. And Id pay to do it again if the entire thing were animated in this amazing style. 10/10, fantastic
i know this comment is old but ive just finished the suffering game after a good straight month since i started listening with very few breaks and im so upset with myself for going through it as fast as i did because now i know its wrapping up and i miss it already :(
@@chabashirq4528 don't worry, a new season has just started with Travis as DM! It's the perfect time to jump into the new season. I get what you mean though, I did the exact same thing. The graphic novels are still being released at least! :)
Update: Just finished TAZ Balance arc and I lost track of how many times I cried during just one part of the finale ALONE. You guys are amazing storytellers and comedians and I don't think anybody else, any other group of people, could have ever created this. I'm grateful the stars came into alignment to make this podcast series and that I'm alive to hear/live it with you all. This helps me be glad to be alive.
This is the platonic ideal of a trailer. It shows us so much, tells us exactly what The Adventure Zone is, and doesn't actually spoil any of the big reveals.
Nay! This is a trailer for a Podcast series called The Adventure Zone (the audio/dialog *is* their dialog), specifically, The Balance arc, which is A) Finished (so you can binge the complete story! .. It'll take you, like, weeks, but you can! No getting to the end and waiting in agony!) B) Very good. (I.. may have cried at a few points). It can be found here: www.maximumfun.org/shows/adventure-zone?page=10 Starting with "Here There Be Gerblins, Ep 1"
I showed this to my friends who've never listened to TAZ before, and my favorite part of sharing it was just pointing out all the stuff from 1:29 to 2:11 and every second repeating myself "That actually happens. That actually happens. That actually happens." This trailer makes no bullshit up, every second is accurate to the story events of the podcast. Which, for the weird stuff like a town in a bubble going apeshit for a split second then being fine once again, or the instantaneously understandable and awesome stuff like Garyl, really makes me wonder why my friends haven't listened yet. I showed them this trailer almost 2 months ago, I think. I need to up my salesmanship game.
Do they like DnD, My friend got me to watch "here there be gerblins" to show me what DnD is like, then tricked me into watching every single fuckin' episode I love her so much
My friend showed me this at his house on a whim while I was visiting him during Christmas break. We were both pretty sleepy at the time and it was so bizarre that I had no idea what was going on. I almost didn't start listening to the podcast cuz I'd never been a podcast person, but I convinced myself to give it a chance and MAAAAAAN am I so happy I did! I became legit obsessed with the Balance Arc. I can't listen at work so I BLAZED through all 69 episodes in my evening free time.
@@douglas98465 ironically, taz (and other mcelroy content) was my workplace soundtrack. I blazed through each episode multiple times, im currently doing it angain in quarantine
Up to 2:15. I saw this video well over a year before starting Balance, which I’m nearing the end of now. My heart dropped as soon as Magnus was given true sight in the Suffering Game and I recognized that final redrobe scene, had to come watch this again immediately
A friend I met online actually recommended me the podcast, of whom I lost contact with a while back. I need to thank them sincerely, because it was such a _fucking OUTSTANDING_ podcast.
Honest to god, this is one of the main things that got me into TaZ. Years of knowing about it from tumblr fanart, this piece is what has stood out the most, and this is the one thing that's always had me thinking "I'm gonna listen to it some day". The music, the editing, the sheer amount of chaos that make it so intriguing despite not giving away anything, this is the best goddamn trailer ever produced. I've listened to Balance now, finally, and now I love it even more when I can finally recognize the different scenarios. A job well done.
the fact that griffin just decided to do music a few arcs in takes the series from great to fantastic. plus its all him, with the exception of his plantasia covers and the original mort garson as the intro music. the music is honestly my favorite bit, griffin indeed is a capable storyteller, but his music elevates every moment its in. the hype of the final fight in the suffering arc, the eerie, crystalline sound of the crystal kingdom, the lone guitar strings that soundtrack the epilogue, its all absolutely brilliant.
Probably just a congregation spell like light. I don't remember it being made out of light at that point in the story. They were probably just having fun hamming up the video.
Guys my girlfriend got me into TAZ a few months ago, and I just finished it last night. Gosh darn McElroy’s, I’ve never felt so invested in any characters as much as these three lovable doofases. Thanks for all the laughs and tears and good times, and I hope that you’re all doing well
Magnus's nails! Taako's invisible hat! The name cards! From the creators and creator of those creators! The pause of violence after license to kill! Garyl! Julia! LUP!!!! Every frame of this is perfection, I can't stop watching it over and over. This trailer showcase why TAZ basically saved my life last year and continue to make me so happy.Good job✋🏻 and congrats to everyone that worked on this!
You wouldn’t have to spend time animating all of the player talking, just the characters doing and saying the stuff that happened in the episode. (Of course, that might actually make it longer, since it takes more time to show something happening than to say it does...)
Actually, the episodes would probably only be about 30-40 minutes if they excluded all the outside player talk. Actions in DnD are only about 6 seconds of in game time so it would probably work out.
Hey, critical role did it and got 10 million dollars and is making a full series, so, I think the taz comunity could get 2 million and make 2 or 3 20 min episodes at least!
I haven't listened to the entirety of the Balance Arc, but this trailer really spurred me on to keep listening, and now I am addicted. It's been incredible, picking out moments and recognising them as I listen to the episodes.
Noticing the Sizzle It Up clip the second time watching BROKE ME. Noticing Sazed in the background of that clip when going back to it a third time DESTROYED ME.
about 4 years ago TAZ reignited my passion for art and set me down the path to become an animator. I'm in school right now and can finally appreciate how much fucking work this must have been. It's so good!
I honestly would adore an animated series for this, but I also know that to make a quality product it would be a huge undertaking, and I don't think they have the time, honestly, in between all the other stuff they have going on atm and going forward.
P.B. Falkor nah the mcelroys described it as a trailer for the podcast itself, sort of an onramp for new listeners. an animated series would be dope though!
i cant believe this i just started TAZ a week ago with my friend and i. am so god damn floored right now. your campaign is so fun and interesting to listen to and this animation is incredible. THESE DESIGNS are incredible. thank you mcelroys...
Oh maaaaan. So many of us fans envy your position right now, getting to listen to everything with fresh ears. Just when you think things get real in the story? They get real-er. More than several times. Real-er is a really real word also. Hopefully by the time you finish the massive Balance Arc, there'll be half another major world/story for you to start off into. Welcome aboard
i was midway through balance when i started making my dad listen to it. it had officially ended by that point but i was a latecomer. i could only see my dad over the weekends but he loved it SO much and every weekend we would listen to it practically nonstop, in the car if we were going somewhere, on speakers if we were home or at his studio. i think it rekindled his old love for d&d. he started playing d&d with his friends and even started making dice towers for them. we listened to all of amnesty (loved that too) and some of grad together. he passed away unexpectedly in april of this year but i'll always be thankful for this podcast for bringing me and my dad together so much when i was having a rough time trying to connect with him. some of my favourite memories with my dad were made because of this podcast. i can't thank you guys enough.
I watched this before listening to the balance arc. Every once in a while I check back in to see what new references I can spot. It’s an absolute joy, excellent work!
I know this is probably terrible but I really love the part where Merle says “God lied” and it syncs up with the music. The animation and the editing is just so perfect and I love this video so much.
Duuuude, this is so fucking awesome!!! The colors, the desiiiiiigns, the animation itself!!! The way you formatted the trailer too, that balance of epic and silly that TAZ is so great for just. Ahhhhh!!! This is such a cool trailer!!! Really amazing job
I watched this and a few animatics long before I ever listened to TAZ. I just finished it about an hour ago and went back to watch all these again to see how well it held up. My god, this is amazing. I don't know if they will ever make a show out of The Balance arc, but if they ever do, I will throw so much money at it.
