That apology post on Instagram was nothing sincere. Will Smith displayed an insane amount of ego and entitlement with what he did, and watching Chris Rock stand there stunned while trying to continue doing his job made me incredibly sad for the man. The Oscars personnel are an absolute JOKE for not removing Smith.
Did people not forget Kanye storming the stage.. I'm so surprised there are no security that is immediately if anyone would have come up on the stage Security grabbed their hand and lead them back to their seat.
True but if what Joe said is true and they hashed it out backstage I guess it’s all good. But since it started in front of a camera and ended backstage it leaves us going “???” but oh well.
Smith publicly displayed how emasculated he feels in his messed up marriage. Over the top response poured on a guy who was defenseless against him. He pretends to be a tough guy in films and proved that he is an extremely weak man in real life. He didn’t hurt me, but all adults should be saying the same thing to him: “Grow up and get your house in order.”
I feel like this point isn’t made enough. People wanna have all these conversations about “society” when this situation is much more about interpersonal relationship and an unstable actor
I don’t often disagree with Joe but I do on his take about the aftermath of the slap. I absolutely think the academy should take away his award or some other extreme measure. In all other walks of life you would get fired from your job, expelled from school, sued etc. It’s not like it’s some new social norm that slapping the shit out of somebody at a company function is not ok. Everyone knows this. I say make an example out of him. Talk about privilege. Who else can get away with that shit?
I agree too. People have been cancelled and their lives ruined for saying words. No way should somebody be allowed to assault somebody and just go on as normal.
No, because what you need to understand is that punishment and fear is not a good long term drive. As much as you like to believe that celebrities deserve more punishment because they’re spoiled.. it’s not really true. The solution to this kind of behaviour isn’t to destroy the career of everyone who does it, because it just creates fear and no resolve. If Will was a terrible, awful person then the academy would have used this opportunity to jump on him and end him officially.. as it goes, even though most people are pissed off, it’s really hard to be too mad because at the end of the day he isn’t a terrible person and what he did was really stupid and shit but was barely even violence and certainly didn’t physically hurt Chris. It’s sad that people get so angry that they fail to see the fact that Will is a human and is making mistakes publicly, which must be so stressful. Will has made a fool of himself.. there’s really no need to keep digging him into the hole that he’s already dug. He needs our help.
I thought Alopecia was just another one of Jada's lovers. Thanks Will for informing us of this incredibly serious medical condition that Joe is also battling.
It's not even proper alopecia, my nephew has it, no eyebrows, no hair on any inch of his body, she looks cool as fuck with short hair, full eyebrows, don't see the issue
Oh you bet he had an insanely offensive comeback for "keep my wifes name out of your fucking mouth" Which would make will sprint back on stage 🤣 but he said "I will" and continued. Chris Rock is a badass
give me an 's', give me a 't', give me an 'a' give me a 'g' give me an 'e', give me a 'd', (actually, I'll be giving out the 'd') we got "stag...d" duh. Why? You would have to think like a quantum computer to understand.
A man can show love and respect for his wife without getting physical over words. The gentlemanly action in this situation would have been for will to simply reach over and hold his wife in loving support while shaking his head at Chris's joke. That simple gentlemanly action would have spoken louder than any words or actions, and would have garnered Will tremendous respect. Now he has lost respect. Being a gentle man (Gentleman) doesn't imply weakness, but a sense of maturity, class, and refinement.
Where I come from, if someones wife would be insulted, it could end up with a couple teeth knocked out. Rock was still lucky because he got "b**ch slapped. I cant imagine Smith walking down the ally later on, and say what? "Hey Chris, would you kindly stop insulting my wife in front of the crowed?" You must be deeply brainwashed (as is most of these days) or you have access to pretty strong meds. Some men still go by the old ways, some men have still dignity, some men still have their values intact. Take it, or leave it and live in delusions.
exactly. instead of going up to attack a person he should have comforted his wife. except I dont think their relationship was like that which is the truly sad part.
@@Ozymandias1337 The way I see it. Will always had a sense of humor, he's been in the showbiz for ages. Have we seen anything like this before? Is he a kind of individual who has anger management issues? I doubt it. So when you see a guy like that snaps, this must've been serious for him. Will this cause him trouble, most likely, but he was aware of the consequence the moment he made up his mind to do what he did. You may not see it that way, but he certainly did.
@Anyday Now when jim carrey was at his peak in that time hollywood was full of cool guys, great movies, great tv series, best rappers, best singers in that era, now all garbage movies,tv shows, songs 🤷♀🤷♀
I'm black and I lost all respect for will, that was the biggest simp move of all time... Hats off to Chris Rock for being a professional in that situation!
Couldn't have said it better myself, bro. It was the simpiest of simp moves. No man has ever simped so hard before in this time-space continuum. He simped so hard that a black hole opened up beneath his feet and consumed his respect, dignity, and appeal.
FACTS! As a Black dude, most of us don’t stand for shit like this. But the others are VERY loud. There is still a great many of us who believe in gentlemen, classy behavior.
The most disturbing thing about this entire event is how many people actually, wholeheartedly, vehemently believe Will Smith was justified in using violence against words.
I’m black and disgusted by what will did. I will not support anything he does ever again. The people who are defending Will would be condemning him if he were white. I’m tired of the insane hypocrisy.
It is simple he did something that was bad. He needs to be punished in some fashion and then people just need to get on with life. Stop making it the biggest issue of our times.
That’s no different than cancel culture. Should he be punished? For sure. Should he be able to come back & reform himself? For sure He made a mistake It’s disgusting But I don’t judge his entire life on this one event Just my opinion
It's makes normal people sick. Even liberals told me imagine if will was white. They would have drug him out by his shoelaces. Instead they give him a standing ovation for assaulting someone. But what do we expect from Hollywood pedos
sat at the front row seat like a throne, slap the jester for a very mild joke, sat back to his throne while receiving a standing ovation, received award with tears on how justifiable his actions was and attended the party while dancing his night away. i was like wow, the life of an entitled celebrity sure is something else....
I had this same kind of thought. My thought was more like- he literally thinks he’s untouchable. He was smirking walking back to his seat because he mows nobody will do anything. The hats the Elite for you
Will Smith didn't just slap Chris Rock, he slapped everyone at the Oscar's and everyone watching. Everyone was STUNNED. Like WTF was that? Chris Rock's intial reaction was everyone's reaction. He said "WOW, Dude." Will's emotional screaming right afterwards confirmed what we suspected. He was out of control. Chris Rock was DYING to verbally light his ass up immediately after all that, but to salvage some dignity & to restore order for the millions invested in this year's Oscars he took a deep breath, gathered his composure and continued to DO HIS JOB. Props to Chris Rock for being an adult & not an overly emotional juvenile like Will Smith.
I heard that the presenters often have writers from Academy awards writing their bit/humor, they also rehearsed what they're about to say. So what Chris joked about might even be written by someone else and Rock was just delivering it. I hope that if it is, he'd sue the Academy Award for not giving him any security/protection. The fact that he gathered himself and kept on presenting made me respect Rock so much more.
I know people will form a lot of differing opinions thats natural ‘ my opinion is The whole issue is stage managed for numerous reasons, its one of those “Acting Slaps ‘’ and the tears and BS afterwards made me gip, HOLLYWOOD BULLSHITTERS, they are not normal .
Dude AGREED shit was lame af. Chris handled it with class though, this will hurt Smith the most in the end. Though, Chris will be a meme for this and that’s a loss in of itself. Now I will not ever comment on this topic again, and move on with my day.
The fact you have to patiently explain to so many people that violence as a response to hurt feelings is, yes, actually wrong in 2022 is a sad indictment on our society
Smith casually walked up into a stage, assaulted someone, was able to take his seat, refused to leave, collected an award, got a round of applause from his peers then made a speech about how he's a victim.
Smith casually walked up into a stage, assaulted someone, was able to take his seat, refused to leave, collected an award, got a round of applause from his peers then made a speech about how he's a victim. I'd call that privilege.
@@KarlJayce yeah they definitely are trying to save face, there is no way in hell they asked him to leave and when he refused they STILL hand him the award after? That’s cap
according to Chris Rock’s brother, they haven’t talked And Chris Rock only apologized to Wanda Sykes because he felt like that whole situation ruined their night hosting the Oscars
Imagine apologizing to somebody else after you were smacked, simply because you felt bad about ruining their night. If that legitimately isn't class-personified, than I don't know what is. Kudos to Chris Rock, he's a better man than I could ever be in that situation.
Honestly it breaks my heart to think about the hurt and humiliation that Chris went through, in front of millions of people. And then for him to watch the people in that room give your aggressor a standing ovation as he makes himself the victim... damn Someone shared a clip with me and it's just Chris immediately after Questlove wins and is making his speech, and Chris is in the background looking so lost and sad. Breaks my fucken heart. Especially since he was bullied as a kid. But at least he will be making money off of it. He's got this.
I hope god is real because if he is then the apocalypse is real, and if the apocalypse is real then hell is real AND if all that is real then the world will one day drown in fire and blood. Humanity should end. There is nothing worth saving.
Honestly, Chris Rock should have charged Will Smith for assault. I know they're "friends", but still to attack someone in public and not actually handle the situation in private is just ridiculous. If anything that charge wouldve taught Will Smith the hard way about consequences
Even tho Will smith is one of my favorite actors he just showed the world and Chris that he had enough. And lost. Chris understood that so he didn’t flip out or press charges. Will apologize. Chris saw his pain and accepted his apology. Will Smith might have won an Oscar but took a huge L on being “cool calm and collective”..home alone with it. Chris ticket sales boosted so he over that slap and enjoying his bank account numbers increasing 👍🏽
"Will Smith will not tolerate other men making jokes about his wife. He will however tolerate other men having sex with his wife. This is a man of principle." - Matt Walsh
And like Joe Rogan said, "where does it end?" If violence is okay, what are they limits? Can I kick someone in the nuts? Can I hit them in the head with a heavy glass ashtray? I just want to know where the line is.
Hear me out, and I don't support this thinking but it could be rationalized, perhaps WS is just over-invested in his wife's happiness and pleasure? Her smashing AA was pleasurable, so it's ok. CR joking at her expense made her upset, so it wasn't ok 🤔
They could all make $0 at the box office and they’ll still be dressing up in designer suits and dresses and giving each other awards that used to mean something
I'd like to thank Smith for exposing me to the genius of Chris Rock - he doesn't figure much in the UK but now I'm watching all his stuff. Chris is such a legend!!
My appreciation for Will has flatlined. Anyone who condones this blatant lack of control in response to a something so minor, need to realign their moral compass.
"And Chris Rock even apologized" No, Joe, he apologized to Wanda Sykes backstage because he felt terrible for distracting from anyone who won or might win that night.
It's possible he also apologized to Will afterwards, I mean if he was throwing apologies to his fellow hosts he may have chucked one at Will just for the hell of it.
So what you're saying is that Chris Rock apologized just like Joe said. Joe never said Chris apologized to Will, he said he made a public apology which he did. And were not even sure what happened because reports claim that Chris did apologize to Will back stage, at least according to people who were working the event.
The definition of condoning violence is giving someone an award an hour after physically assaulting someone with millions watching. No one stopping it, no one helping the person attacked and continuing on as if no violence has happened. IE above the law.
If criminal charges are too extreme, and taking away his award is too extreme, and escorting him out of the building is too extreme, then we just don't consider violence to be extreme.
Chris's apology was at the after party he went to... where Wanda came up to him, "I'm so sorry Chris, are you alright?" This is where Chris apologized to Wanda. She asked why on earth are you apologizing?! Chris told her it was because he knew it was their night (presenters) ... that they were doing a great job... And that that whole thing spoiled things for them. That's a gentleman for you. That night, at the comedy show, the crowd loved on Chris... So cool.
Wow, a black man acts like a white conservative and thinks they of others and you think he’s worthy of praise for acting like a human being? Black privilege right there
This idea that Will Smith was “protecting his wife” is a LIE. To protect is to keep safe from harm or danger. Jada was not under any threat of harm or danger at that point. If Chris Rock would have went on a long rant verbally attacking Jada and wouldn’t stop, and then Will Smith got up on stage and slapped the crap out of him to make him stop, that MAY be in the category of “protecting her”. That clearly was not the case. What Will Smith did was retaliation. Because of something Chris did verbally, Will retaliated physically. As far as “protection”, he did no such thing.
You don't know what other jokes Chris Rock still had up sleeves until Will slapped some sense into him. Pre-emptive strike and it worked, not a single joke since lmao.
ORORORORO!!! I spend half of my day sleeping! ORORORO!!! Then I sometimes get up and tell you that I am a famous content creatorORORORORO!!! Please don't sleep while driving, dear grant
It was very classy of him to keep his composure, and I think he did it out of respect for everyone watching. It's the ultimate "the show must go on". Had the circumstance been less public we would be commenting his reaction very differently.
Darkwing Dave, quite true. He moved into the realm of the serene. I saw a vision of Dick Gregory thru Chris Rock's behavior. I'd exile Smith's from the SAG and begin the de-gloryification of them.
But would he have been disrespected if he'd defended himself, giving kids a lesson in how to treat a bully? If it had been a savage Gervais as the host, would it even have happened? Gervais stated he wouldn't have joked about JPS, but rather her boyfriend....
That last statement made me think of every human being who’s life was completely altered due to one bad judgment. Everybody isn’t blessed to be Will Smith and some people have to suffer years of consequences for even lesser actions. Will Smith’s action is somewhat justified by being “pushed to the limit.” So just imagine someone going through far more worse than Will Smith and pushed to their limit? Theirs no remorse for what their going through and it’s kinda sad imo that it is that way.
Chris Rock beat a bully within an inch of his life with a brick. He knows all about those limits. And this is the pearl clutching. People are appalled that he wasn't arrested, but had it been Richard Gere and Bradley Cooper, the conversation would be a tad different.
We plebs have to fight back when those more powerful than us want to crush us and justify their cruelty. Sometimes war is unavoidable. Humans are often vile disgusting creatures who lie to and decieve themselves about what they really are.
Don't fucking hit me! Period! Take their Screen Actor's Guild union cards away. end his blockbuster BS anyone in a high budget flix is going to bring home the bacon. Studios need to stop relying on fucked up gimmicks like being a ninety minute commercial for the Military Industrial (Covert) Complex, or making the commercial work by inserting skillless Smiths in the script to draw crowds.
“I was sickened by the standing ovation, I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse.” Jim Carrey's resposne is deadset on the money! And yeah sue his ass for ~$200m and see how smug Will Smith is then!!!
Really did you 🤡🤡 Jim Carrey 💩 all over the second amendment over ten years ago . And disrespected Charleston Heston . As well as called Trump supporters terrorist . Pull your head out of your butt
"With a single petulant blow, Will Smith advocated violence, diminished women, insulted the entertainment industry, and perpetuated stereotypes about the Black community." - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
I have nothing against Will, and I have been a fan of his work for a long time. But after what he did to Chris, I kind of hope that the biggest and baddest comedians and entertainers will just casually taunt him and Jada to prove he won`t do shit to someone who can actually take him on. He would never do what he did to someone like Rogan or the rock. I feel so bad for Chris, he didn`t deserve that
I firmly believe Will Smith wouldn't have done that to just about ANYONE, for example, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy (can you even imagine???), or even Kevin Hart, who is also much shorter than Will Smith, but Kevin is an A-list comedian and Will wouldn't dare (Chris Rock is A-List in my book, btw).
Although Will wasn't arrested, charged, and held accountable, I believe the damage to his reputation this incident has caused is a far worse punishment for someone of his stature. The man who was once looked up at as the embodiment of charisma has been dragged through the mud on practically every news channel this entire week. I believe your reputation is the most valuable thing you've got, and he's got some major, MAJOR work to do if he ever wants to get that back to close to what it was before.
I mean i understand your point, and i somewhat agree, but "is a far worse punishment" just doesnt sit right with me. "far worse" is a pretty strong statement.
Sorry this just shows us once again that celebrities and politicians are above the law. If two everyday citizens get in a fight and then say they don't want to press charges against each other the state will still pick up charges because they want that money it didn't used to be that way but ever since policing for money has come into effect which happened when they gave all our jobs away. But this is nothing new who cares some people don't know who cares nobody knows nothing anymore anyways
We can blame the white supremacist Caucasians that are using this moment for their own purposes, like Judge Jeanine Pirro who couldn't help herself from making a "the Oscars are not the hood" comment on Fox News, and the numerous other racist hottakes going on right now. Of course, none of this would be possible without Will so yes, he's still to blame.
Rather than raging on Will, can we just take a second and admire Chris Rock's master class in de-escalation? You could tell he was about to say some shit, but took the high road instead. I've never been a Chris Rock fan, but that dude handled that better than most.
@@jaytruther1908 No reason in particular. I don't dislike him or anything, and nothing against him at all. Just not my taste. One of those we-like-what-we-like kinda things. Not a big fan, but not a hater, either.
@@facepalmdaily4404 that's cool bro, you should watch Everybody Hates Chris the t.v show. It's hilarious and gives a deeper look into his life growing up. He was bullied as a child and for Will Smith to come at him like that in front of the world is traumatising I'm sure.
Hey Joe! According to people that went to the Chris Rock show in Boston last night, Chris told the crowd that he has not spoken to ANYONE since the incident no matter what the mass media says. He will release a statement in due time. Chris says he's still taken back by this whole thing.
just sad celebrities and politicians are treated on a whole differen't level than others, and the saddest part is the others uphold their actions in most cases
What blows my mind is the Academy saying "we told Will he had to leave but he refused" Is that how it works? If I'm at an event and do something warranting my expulsion, when the security come to me and ask me to leave I can just say "No, no I don't think I will" then everything just proceeds as normal? Absolutely wild.
Def believe I’m going to try this tactic in the future 😂 and I’m sure it’ll end with them using my head to open the door as they throw me down the steps out of the building
If you were a millionaire it's a different ball game, you can blame the "American dream" which seems to be just garner enough wealth that then puts you above people without.
That's because it was fake. The slap was so stupid. Chris reaction seemed staged. The Oscar's asked him to leave but he wouldn't?? Yeah right. This is all going to plan. Chris then puts his ticket prices up??? Nosebleed seats 190.cmon
If Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made the joke Will Smith would not have slapped him. That alone tells you that violence isnt the proper response to what happened. We don't live in a society where the strongest man in the room makes the rules. We use our words and everyone justifying it just dont want to acknowledge that their role model made a mistake.
@@jerome25greatness78 not necessarily, Eddie Murphy clowned Iron Mike in front of him and an audience at some awards ceremony years ago, can't remember if it was the Oscars but yeah Eddie was mocking Mike's voice and there was no BS.
I never would have known about: Chris's joke, Jada's hair loss, Jada sleeping with their son's friends, and Will being a creep kissing his son in the mouth, if Will hadn't made such a global spectacle.
Rener & Ryron Gracie from Gracie University (their father is Rorion one of the founders of the UFC) & the Gracie Breakdown YT channel. Well they offered free classes to both Chris & Will, but it would be hilarious if Chris knew some BJJ or just something & lit up Will.
Imagine if it was Joe on stage instead of Chris Rock. 20 seconds later Joe would have Will cradled in a choke hold whispering "Just sleep Will, go to sleep buddy".
Will Smith disappointed me as a Black man. He set us a back two decades in the eyes of people who have had little interaction with Blacks, and have formed prejudices based on negative media representations. In their minds, his behavior was evidence of the violent Black man in real time. “You can take the man out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the man!” I can hear it now!
I disagree that Will shouldn't have been escorted to a police station, fingerprinted and held until being taken before a judge the next morning, as every other person who took those actions would have had to do. Giving a green light and continuing to reward the person afterwards is a horrible message to send to society that makes everyone less safe.
I agree that celebs aren't treated like common folks, but most people wouldn't be arrested for that. That's a "visit the scene, talk to everybody there, is the victim OK? Yes? Do they want to press charges? No? OK, we're done here" kind of situation.
What is more disturbing than Will's actions is the fact that the Academy completely condoned his actions by not kicking him out of the venue immediately.
Time and time again, I find myself wondering, How does Joe keep his train of thought going for like 3 hours while being just mind-blowingly lit... I have to keep coming back to the question because I keep losing my train of thought.
