The All American Marlin model 60 

Model 60 was my first rifle at the age of twelve i went to Kmart and bought so many bricks of ammo the guy behind the counter knew me and just started letting me buy them without my parents being there. The good old days.

I love my Marlin Model 60, my wife bought it for me in 1993' - it's been a great rifle for 27 years! Texas

I can connect with this video at several points: first, thanks for the plug and endorsement of taking a Hunter Safety course. You are correct that many states do require passing this course in order to get a hunting license. I am fortunate enough to teach the last 4 hour portion of the course every other Sunday after church here in Texas. The first portion of the course is done online by each student. Secondly, I had an old Model 60 back in the seventies and cannot for the life of me remember where it went. Used it very frequently on the ferocious Arizona ground squirrels that were abundant in the Flagstaff area back then. And like you I recently re-acquired another M 60, but, this time fell in love with a 50th anniversary model I found online. This model has a real walnut stock with real cut checkering etc. And finally, like you I put a complete spring kit and upgraded components in it when I tired of the almost 6 lb trigger pull and the failure to feed issues which seems to plague some of the new Marlins. On another note, I moved to Texas when I retired. It has been a real adjustment as most of my hunting life was in Arizona and Nevada. Texas is only 5% public land. There is a huge culture of paying big to hunt. If you are not connected, it is real costly to hunt on the many ranches that do all they can to make it easy to hunt whatever you want to harvest but at a substantial cost. I really miss the 65-70 % public land in the west. I really enjoy seeing the area you hunt in. Beautiful woods. I envy you. As I'm now in my early 80s, I may not experience such bounty in this life. Keep up the down-to-earth homey approach to your videos, as many of us are with you in spirit.

Revelation was the name for the Western Auto version. My father owned a Western Auto store in the early 1960s and I still have the Revelation after 62 years. It was my 1st .22.

I have one I purchased back in 85 , still shoots perfectly with thousands of rounds through it and a $10 scope. Dozens of ground hogs are no more and even a couple of coyotes went down to the model 60. Great gun thanks for the video.

I just added a Marlin model 60 to my collection. It has the stainless steel barrel. I took it to the range last week and ran 100 rounds of CCI mini mags through it. Not one misfire! Great rifle!

I just got gifted one.. it was a gun I could not afford back in the 70's and since then I have few 22 rifles. My buddy had one in the back of his safe and just gave it to me. what a hoot it is! I got a cheap russian scope just to mess with and was shocked a how great it shot. Mine now is a 70's with the silly pressed in squirrel on the walnut stock Long barrel and 18 shot. no hold open.

I've owned several model 60's, and several 10/22's. The Marlins were always more accurate out of the box. The model 60 I own now just might be the most accurate rifle I've ever owned!

Have a 60 my dad gave me in 1961.. still will put bullet in same hole at 75 yds. Great gun. Probably give to grandson soon. Love your videos

Good stuff. The Glenfield 60 I bought for less than $50 at K-Mart in my late teens was my second rifle. They sold thousands of these guns. Since then, I've accumulated half a dozen more Marlin Glenfield model 60's (both magazine and tube fed variants) because they are such a great value. None of them have polymer trigger guards. My used squirrel stocked Glenfield 60 like yours in great condition was only $100 out the door. I also appreciate the look and feel of a classic, wood stocked .22 rifle.

This made me get out my marlin 60 out clean it and went plinking!

My first rifle i learn to shoot when i was 6. The marlin model 60 18 round with tasco scope. My farther purchased it back in 1979 and still has it to this day i go by there just to keep that rifle cleaned and oiled. That firearm holds alot of memories of the old days. Thank you for your videos

I bought my Glenfield at Kmart back in 1977. Still have the original box. Several thousand rounds thru it and still an awesome gun. No new parts.

I bought a Marlin model 60 back in the mid 1980's. It was a great. I never had any problems with it, but I always kept it clean. I eventually traded it in on another gun and I wish I hadn't.

I just bought a 50 year old Glenfield model 60 with the squirrels on the grip for 115.00. Absolutely unmolested and fires great. Love it

This is a very relaxing, informative & fun video to watch! I like learning & always do watching your videos. The cleaning part was a real treat for me, I’m about to go start cleaning them all soon @ my 10 yrs old sons request to go shooting soon. We only run the .22,s because they are so much fun & affordable too now thankfully. I have collected some real decent ones that all need cleaning. My 1982 Marlin model 60 is one of my favorites to shoot, along with my 1947 Remington 550-1 with CB shorts & several of my old Target & Match pistols. All of them feed & run real well. Learning the ammo they all like was fun to experience, I see that’s part of the fun with .22,s I never realized when I was younger & into larger caliber items. Thankfully there is lots available to keep all my .22,s happy however, finding the S&K, ELEY & RW ammo is something I want to try, also Lapua. Whenever I do get the chance to set up my own targets I set them up very similar to how you do because I learned it’s best & fun back when I was a kid. Thanks, nice groups!!!

Great video my friend, I had one of these as a youth about 45 years ago, Great memories. You inspired me to get another one of these Marlin Glenfield .22 so I just went on a gun auction site and just purchased one. I can't remember either why I ever sold my first one, I guess it's always trying to find the ultimate .22, although I have more accurate rifles than the model 60 the bottom line is the Marlin 60 is a great gun and can hold it's own and is a lot of fun. Keep the great video's coming. Thanks for a well spent hour of great memories of so long ago.

I have a Marlin model 6079 Limited edition that was a special order I think for OTASCO in 1979. It has gold plated trigger, squirrel and oak on the stock and 22in barrel with the 18 round tube. I've had it since I was 10, it was given to me because I was born in 1979. Great shooting gun, but picky on ammo. Only thing it lives is the CCI standard velocity. Every thing else upsets it in its old age lol 😆 great gun, its my favorite beside my Daisy Legacy .22 single shot bolt action I got when I was 8

My first firearm at age 13 in 1965... I could not afford much ammo so was very judicious... accounted for a truckload of squirrels and other assorted game and varmits... still have it but the Weaver 3-6x s ope gave out some years ago... will give to grandson... a great gun, well worth the $40...

I agree it is. I also believe it shoots better out the box than a 10/22. Been there done that.

I have one, and I like it. I also have the model that has the M-1 style stock. same firing mechanism, but shorter.. more portable.

I recently acquired a model 60 made in 1988, it has the 22” barrel and 18 shot mag tube, last round hold open, guess they still made a few in the late 80’s like this?

Great video. I'd tell everyone to not overtighten the bolts especially at the trigger guard. The guard breaks easily and it's going to cost you ~$60 for a replacement. Also, you can use your serial number to lookup the date of manufacture online.

I have the mod. 60, 10/22 and the Winchester mod. 190. Of the three, my favorite is the 190 Winchester. that being said, they all shoot well.

Took your advice rather then drilling the fore end I removed the tube to mount swivel to the tube

I had one 30 years ago, that I sold. I put 200 to 500 rounds a week thru that on the shooting range, for all the 10 years I had it.

I live in Ireland and the model 60 was my first .22 but it had two draw backs for me first was it didn't like subsonic ammo and wouldn't recycle, second you couldn't fit a silencer so I changed to a 10/22.

I've never owned a model 60, but I do however have a model 99 M1 that i bought 3 or 4 years ago. It's a pretty neat little rifle with wood over the top of the barrel and the magazine tube sticks out of the forearm just enough for you to get a hold of it. I had to put a scope on it because the rear sight was missing when I bought it so if anyone knows where one can be found please let me know.

When cleaning the rifles, you use the same type of bristle end to push the cotton pad through or does it differ from the one you first use to loosen the dirt up? Thanks, great review of the guns, makes me eager to get out and find a good round my 22 favors as well.

It is 2021 and you can't find .22 ammo at good prices. Hoarders buy it off the shelf as fast as it is stocked and sell it at very high prices at their pawn shop. Average price is .25 to .35 a round. Crazy.

My 25M seems to need a patch down the bore. I'm thinking the microgroove fills faster.

I really wanted to like this rifle and enjoy it ----no one talks about it but it has a very serious flaw in the early days I have gone through five or six and got tired of it because it would not work the flaw is a faulty ejector which bent The wiredownward and I just didn't know how to fix it but I believe it's been corrected and nobody mentions it which is a shame because I really think it's a great rifle

Mine starts with 11 million so 2000 minus 11 n some change is 1988 ish or 1989 and that was when the barrel was shortened from 22” to 19” and capacity went form 18 to 14 rounds plus one in the pipe but who would do that right? N e ways $150 @ a pawn shop and she cleaned up so nice 👍 thankfully and I was surprised at the accuracy 😊. The whole reason I bought it was I don’t see them often and been hearing about how great they are with accuracy and reliability so now I have one and it’s sighted in and the inky thing left to do after two good cleanings is refinish the stock or leave it alone . It’s birch with no engravings and needs some love but I m not sure what color , maybe clear birch 🌳 or a gray stain with a matte finish or gray with 2 coats whitewash and make it a snow shooter . Either way it will look brand new and it should for how good it has operated for two days now 😂. Edit . A day later and it took two hours to strip and sand and steel wool, I rubbed boiled linseed oil on it and am glad I did , will continue to do for 3-4 days and see what can build up , it’s still matte looking but smooth . I finish wood for a living so this was easy for me and it’s damn near perfect compared to others I ve seen . Thinking of just going tru coat finish if I can’t get the linseed to stack up to a gloss I like because the grain is too good on this stock to pass up for what it is . I wish I could show you .

Gun ownership is personal preference,.....A 10/22 is built like a machine and is a fine gun. A 10/22 is far more dependable. But there's far to many great 22LR rifles out there. But I prefer the tube fed gun's that are 3 in ones. A 3 in one shoots 22 short,...22 Long,....and 22 Long Rifle. And yes there have been many variations of 22 rifles. But the Model 60 out of the box was more accurate than the 10/22. Ruger and Marlin can both do the same job. I disassemble the guns and clean the bolt and trigger group in paint thinner and a tooth brush,... and the barrel with hope's No. 9. Then I run a patch with Thompson Centers Bore Butter on it down the bore,... on all guns.

I think the 10/22 is more popular. I have both and I like them both. I have 3 Ruger 10/22s and 1 Marlin 60.

Marlin recommends jacketed ammo with micro grooves.

Mine liked plain old rem thunderbolt.

People can say what they want about the Marlin 60's... & I know the Ruger 10/22 is more popular but I wouldn't give my Marlin 60 for the Ruger 10/22 I've had one all the way back to my childhood when I had a REVELATION Made by MARLIN... you could get them at the WESTERN AUTO Stores

Ruger 10/22 don't need last round open, since they are safe to dry-fire.

I really wish the pricing was still accurate.. I just paid 300 for a pre 1986 model 60.

M60 is the GOAT

Can you tell me what the difference is in the stock of a model 60 and a model 99G? I just found a near mint cond glenfield marlin model 99G Barrel with its guts in great shape that I would like to pair it up with a stock. Problem is finding a 99g stock. I was thinking about using a model 60 stock. I wonder is that would work? what do you think sir?

My brother had one in the 60s all it did was jam with every type of ammo put in it. The bolt did not stay open on the early guns.

Any advice on improving the triggers?

I have the same 22 rifle with a squirrel on the stock, but i dont understand why it says westpoint-and marlin model 60, so its the glenfield marlin model 60? Im confused

I had one Marlin model 60, it would not shoot straight. Low and left, at 50 ft the shot would land 9 inches off center. Found another one, much better!!!

How often do you clean the inner magazine tube?

my glenfield does NOT have a lever by trigger guard that locks the action?....back..think it is called action...is this normal for some of these rifles ?

I've owned a couple of 60s. Both of them were very finicky. CCI was the only ammo it would shoot reliability.

Shallow isnt really the word for it! Dont fire pure plain lead amo out of one of them. Unless you have some of my bullet lube. None of my miracle juice? Then make sure they are copper plated or they will strip on the first one instead of spin, lead her up good & now your shooting a smooth bore in stead. I'm fussy about accuracy haven taken part in the serious acquisition of raw wild fur & of taxidermy quality. I kid you not,that marlin is capable,(kind of like a woman) you just need to know what to give them & what to feed them. Some animals have pretty small ears! So 10 round groups need to be consistantly very tight,at 50yrds. That marlin will do it. Just take those factory sights off & throw them away! Get quality douple peeps or a good eye piece. You know buy her something nice & feed her large dia..22lr amo in hi velocity & with copper plated projectiles in a nice clean bore,prepped by patching it out with my miracle juice bullet lube before that clean bore has ever been fired. You can prep bullets with it too

Ruger 10/22 is a better rifle, and they own Marlin now

I’m glad you are not in the tactical stuff. Us these firearms as they were intended ,they are not assault fire arms. Those that want to play Rambo should join our great military branches. Doesn’t even cost you anything to fire assault weapons, Hell the taxpayers even foot all your bills too.
