@@dcayus I haven't had a ton of time to fight with it, but I have not been able to get it to work with my steam deck dock. Hello! Thanks for covering those. I'm a user of older wired version of this controller and its almost perfect. The only issue I have with that controller are bumpers - I like the fact that they used rubber domes instead tactile switches like in xone. The big issue with them is that they only register if you press them in the middle plus they require a substantial force to press them. As a speedrunner I can tell that this small issues makes the controller not a good recommendation for ppl who want to have fast bumper response. I'd be pleased to hear if someone tested bumpers in the new wireless version.

8bitdo just keeps getting better and better with their gamepads. But personally, I would like for them to bring back the Super Famicom and Super NES versions and give them a proper carry case and phone mount. I've had mine in the SF version for 5 years, and it's still my main for both phone emulation and NS play. Also a nice detail is, depending the version you get, the box will have the top view design of it's respective console that's inspired from.

@@james.b.mcgill I said a proper carry case *and* phone mount. The word proper going to both accessories. Ever since the SN/SF30 Pro controllers dropped, they did have a carry case and phone mount available. But you have to buy them separately. And the phone mount is rigid. It's only movable part being the clamp to hold the phone. Which forced you to play with the phone mounted on the gamepad on a specific angle, unlike other gamepads that not only come with built-in phone mount, it's adjustable. The next phone mount has to be that way. Not to mention, it covers the indicator lights and pair button. So, to access them, you have to remove the mount.

I'm so glad I waited for ETA Prime's review before buying. Now I know that this "ultimate" controller is not so ultimate after all. The only upgrades I see over the Pro 2 (my favorite controller right now) are the Hall sticks and the left stick position (although I don't mind the PS style too much). The charging dock and included dongle are nice bonuses, but they add nothing to the experience of actually using the controller. With the Pro 2, you get Switch, X-input, D-input and even a Mac mode. And you can pair a different device in any of those modes, including a retro receiver or USB dongle. Plus, 3 of the modes have 3 profile slots each (Mac mode does not support profiles for some reason). In summary, an expensive new product that falls short of the previous king. All I want is a version of the Pro 2 with Hall sticks. That's the only thing keeping it away from perfection

One thing to keep in mind: The Bluetooth version of the controller has the buttons laid out like a Nintendo Switch. The white one has Xinput because you're also supposed to use it on an Xbox, hence the layout and color coding on the buttons. I don't think the black one works on Xbox.

I had a bad experience with my previous 8bitdo switch controllers and found that many of the cheap Chinese controllers use the same chipset. After a couple months they would refuse to connect even with firmware updates and the batteries completely died shortly after. Hopefully they've stepped it up a bit in the qc department.

I'm a huge fan of 8BITDO controllers and got a bunch of them here, but they're all the 'retro' style, without analog sticks and now I'm buying an analog stick gamepad, so the question is... should I stick with this one or the Gulikit itself? Like I said, I'm a huge fan of 8BITDO, but the GuliKit looks awesome too and for 8BITDO being using their sensors, it's because they know what they're doing. So... hard to decide... help me! :D

@WhyKlef

I'll tell you this much. I bought the Gulikit and while yes, it is a good controller. I run into many compatibility issues in titles, the sticks, while being hall sensor also have a very unusual sensitivity, not like those big brand ones. To be fair, so does 8bitdo out of the box but the difference is 8bitdo has such amazing software, you honestly can't go wrong after tweaking to your liking. Gulikit on the other end does offers customizability as well but from shortcuts on the controller itself but it's (at least to me) one of those overly complicated things to use because there is SO MANY SHORTCUTS. You essentially need the manual opened at all times to know what you are actually modifying. Also, the Gulikit does not have the back paddles, the 8bitdo does. And last, think of the 8bitdo as a premium controller built around what the big international brands do where as the Gulikit is more of a "chinese" type premium gamepad, buttons are more clicky than "membrane" mushy. Honestly, my Gulikit hasn't stopped me from preferring the 8bitdo Pro 2 even though I much prefer asymmetric sticks. I'm picking up the BT version, I just wish they had a solution with mass market ABXY layout but oh well.

The lack of easily replaceable battery pack is a deal killer for me. Both my Pro+ and Pro 2 controllers have had issues with the battery deciding it need to stop charging (or the controller would drop and reconnect bluetooth intermittently when on their battery pack). Moving to AAs always resolved the issue, but I've since moved to an Xbox Series X controller and am very happy with the results.

The only question I have is can it be overclocked? 95% sure that will be a no because generally only playstation controllers(1st or 3rd party) can be overclocked. Having an 8 ms reduction in input lag is comparable to going from 60 fps to 120 fps, so it is a huge difference. Other than that, this looks like a perfect $70 and under controller. I do want to try the high end Razer Xbox gamepads, but I'm not paying $150 for something that will develop drift so I've been sticking to $70 and under gamepads.

I'm such an old fashioned gamer who lived through every generation of cartridge based consoles and still prefer arcade sticks over gamepads but really need a controller that will last. I've been so beyond happy with my arcade stick for 8-BitDo so I will probably get a controller from them also especially since they are anti-drift. Thanks for the review.

I have been trying to find a solid and reliable PC controller for a while now, and they all leave a lot to be desired. - Elite Series 1 USB port failed - Elite Series 2 has drift issues on the left joystick - Razer Wolverine Ultimate, though overall nice, doesn't have the best feeling face buttons or D-Pad (It was hard playing the Capcom Fighting Collection on that thing). I am hoping this creates a seamless experience on Windows where I can just lift it out of the cradle and get to playing! :)

I've picked two of the bluetooth versions and they are amazing, for those wondering if the 2.4 G dongle can handle more than one controller it can't, but of course if you picked two controllers you are going to have two of them so you'll have no problems at all. Also, he didn't mention this but the charging docks not only charge the controller, they work as a USB extender so if you have the dongle "stored" in the dock, you actually have the dongle connected to your device too so you don't have to worry about having all your USB ports populated.
