I should have seen this video before buying the updated version of Ospery Comet, those two bags look just the same except for small differences. The Parsec is an ideal one for me because of its simpler design, and its ability to stand on the ground. The Comet always slips and fall on the grount even if you packed a all lot of stuff in there. Thinking about switching to the Parsec.😂
I'm currently phasing my aestethic from tactical looking bags over to more minimalist bags. This one seems great and I love the name. I just can't get over the lack of bottom straps.
You won’t find bottom straps on a backpack that is designed for every day use in the city/travel. If you want bottom straps in order to attach things under it you need to be looking at a different category of backpacks. 😃
Osprey replaced my old Osprey Parsec when it developed some internal coating tears. They were very helpful and offered an equivalent $ replacement. Then the customer service rep said the Parsec was coming back as a 26L vs the old 32L. But they didn't tell of the kickstand feature. Basically, it is an internal frame. So, no flex makes it difficult to kick under the seat of an airplane. Also, the rigidity also makes it tough to ram in the overhead. So, I tried the TNF Recon, heavy, stiff, not good. Bought the new Nebula 32L, love it.
I haven't used a hip belt since 1981 when I backpack the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Now I use a backpack for my personal care on with my Away larger suitcase for air travel. Once we get to our destination, I pull out the OSPREY REMNANT 17L for sight-seeing.
Great review! I was wondering if you had experience putting it under an airplane seat and if it’s too big or rigid to fit under there and still have good legroom? Thanks!
Hi Desys, Great channel! I recently tried the Parsec in search of a nice EDC bag and it was a bit too much for me! Have you tried the new Osprey Aeode day pack? looks interesting! would you have any idea for an everyday EDC bag? something between the Osprey Nebula, maybe the new Aeode and Apogee? or even Aer?
Hey, I just found your channel and I loved the review. Personally, I just bought an Osprey Daylite+ for hiking/travel, but I’m trying to inform myself about other good backpacks from Osprey, and this one looks good too. Nice and thorough review, I’ll definitely check out your other reviews! Also, if you ever review the Daylite+ backpack, I’d love to hear your thoughts about it. Pura Vida! 🤘
It looks very similar to the nebula which I love, but I wish it had load lifters. The nebula is slightly bigger in capacity but it’s a well designed bag for my needs. This one would be a good choice if I was to go for a smaller backpack.
Sniped this a few months ago as personal item when I travel. It's making for a great camera bag when I hike... I use the Peak Design capture clip on the strap & their travel tripod in one of the bottle holders. Cheers!
@@Ra79rait's going to depend on the airline. For Frontier or Spirit? Most likely they will count it as a carry on. I work at an airport and use the aphelia as my EDC. The Apogee/Aphelia is too large to fit under the seat on American the last time I flew. I have a small backpack from Amazon that I hate for a personal item. I bought my niece an Osprey Comet as a gift and she was able to use it as a personal item on Southwest.
Thanks so much for doing the video on this bag, Desy. I've been on the fence of whether to get this one, the new Tropos 32, the Osprey Axis 24, or the latest Osprey Radial. The Radial in particular seems like a good alternative to this bag because its unexpanded form is 26L, but can expand to 34L, & has a number of features similar to both the Parsec26 as well as the 2019 Tropos, like the kickstand & Airspeed back panel. Its back panel can also be adjusted for various heights, & the mesh pocket on the front is more usable than the zipped pocket on the Parsec 26. I originally went for the Tropos 34 instead of the Radial, but as a bike commuter who doesn't always need the full 34L I'm starting to regret not getting the Radial, so I'm interested in your thoughts. Thanks again! Great review!
thanks! I like how the radial can expand, however the biggest thing I don't like is the concealed water bottle pocket. If you have a rubberized water bottle, its much more difficult to get into into the pocket as theres too much friction. That's why I stuck with the tropos / parsec, where the water bottle pocket is open and much easier to access. I access those pockets a lot as I also put in sunscreen, kids water, or an umbrella
Curious is the kickstand collapsible or is always extended? I'm debating on this vs Fjallraven Raven 20 for a trip to Japan and then to use it for EDC at home. It will just be a daypack with cycling and hiking in the mix.
Thanks for the good review! Could you do the new tropos and old tropos comparison video? Since you said you prefer the old one's front pocket, I wonder what other differences are there from one another!
I just picked up the Tropos and it's basically the Parsec's big brother and I can confirm a 40oz Hydroflask fits with space to spare. I'm pretty sure the pockets are the exact same size on the Parsec even though it's a slightly smaller bag overall.
Thank you very much for a great review - just wondering how do you see the Parsec in comparison with the Apogee that you reviewed previously? I will use the bag for EDC /day trip with kid/ flight travel and occasionally hike.
I much prefer this over the Apogee. I'm not a fan of the concealed water bottle pockets. Parsec also has that air mesh back panel, and parsec also stands up on its own!
so yes and no. if u cram it up full, you will have to squish it under the seat. But the problem is that it's a tall bag so its going to stick out quite a bit. I would not recommend this bag to be put under a seat! FYI I have been using the tropos more than the Parsec lately. I just came back from a trip actually! I used the Tropos and the Wandrd Rogue which I put under my seat
Do you mean the strap or compartment so you can put the bag over the handle of luggage? If so, look at 4:05. There is a gap between the mesh panel and the actual back of the backpack, with holes on either side so you could pass the luggage handle through. Hope this helps.
Hi desy. Is this bag super rigid/ stiff? I use an eddie bauer stowaway backpack which is basically a sack with shoulder slings haha. It was 20l and i needed a bit more room, so im considering this one because it doesnt look like a juvenile school bag or a hikers bag. So im kinda used to a bag with no structure, but it was also not super stiff. Im just worried that this will be too heavy or too stiff for something like walking to work.
hey, so yes there is structure to the back because of that kickstand. But its a very lightweight bag and the rest of it is pretty soft. So yes its rigid in the way that you can't squish it into a ball, but u can flatten it if its empty
thanks! i got it from altitude sports online. weight is similar, but this one is WAYYYY more comfy than the Surge. I like the organization of the Surge, but comfort is more important to me!
@@DesmondCheng yes, totally agree, I ended up getting the Osprey tropos and surge, and returned the osprey. It is more comfortable but I need the pockets on the surge ~~~
the aer is a more premium backpack. its overall heavier but has a lot of pockets / zippers / organization. if u want something more simpler and lighter in weight, then go with the osprey parsec or tropos. but if u like the looks and need the organization, then go with AER!
@@DesmondCheng thank you ☺️ I’m gonna go with tropos! I have an open budget and that got me really confused. But having stayed with - I feel brand Osprey speaks to me more and I walk a lot, so it’s definitely going to be more comfy - lighter and given that I live in India it’s hot here so the airspeed shall be a boon I’m guessing. Thank you for you response :)
I know i'm a bit late to the party, but i personally prefer the stuff pouch on the new tropos/parsec because i mostly use it to store my jumper for quick access, so the zip on the old one wouldnt suit my used case. Great review otherwise and very informative
to be honest, nebula is not on my radar because it doesnt have a kickstand and doesn't have the air mesh. so i probably wont be reviewing that bag anytime soon!
I just got this. First impressions is that's its almost perfect (for me) other than the waist strap. By far the worst part about this bag. Annoying, flappy and even puts weird pressure on lower back. I'm thinking of getting the wings hemmed off.
You could always just remove the bottom strap and just make sure the "wings" are flipped out instead of in when you put it on so they're not putting pressure on your hips. I just picked up the Tropos with the same wing design so I'm right there with you. 🙂
Desy Cheng is a nice guy, but he's ready to sell us any backpack the brands send him or give him. In the long run, this creates a real credibility problem...
