Whipping Post was on the album "Live at the Filmore East" in 1971. Oldest brother Duane, the lead guitarist and slide, was killed in a motorcycle accident just outside of Macon, Ga. in Oct. of 1971. Berry Oakley, the bass player was killed in a very similar accident in almost the same spot the following year. "That Guy with the voice" is the younger brother Gregg Allman and he passed away in 2017. Even with the deaths of both Duane and Berry the band went on to great success world wide. And Gregg Allman had a very successful solo career as well. You might wan to check out "I'm no Angel" I'm really sorry that you were deprived of the greatest Rock Music of all time!! The late 60s thru about the mid 80s produced some amazing work!!

Live version at the "Fillmore East" in 1971 is a MUST. In fact, that album is in the Library of Congress. It is hailed as one of the best, if not THE best, live albums of all time. PS- Whipping Post, "Live at Fillmore East" goes for like 22 minutes. PSS- Gregg was 23 and belted out vocals like a 60 y/o bluesman! Duane was 25. Hell, the entire band was barely old enough to drink.

..I think I was about 10 years old (1986) in Croatia ,former Yugoslavia then ..I don't remember if it was a weekend or a weekday, and of course I had the energy and curiosity to wander around and explore my little town around 8-9pm in late summer.. I slowly crept up to the window of the basement in the city center and of course there were several boys, 7-8 years older than me 'rolling' , sipping beers, chilling and listening to records. The sound of that Duane electric guitar and voice of Greg was the discovery of something completely unknown and new for me.. I fell in love with rock and roll, blues, soul... I have never forgotten that first discovery and feeling of listening the gramophone records and Allman brothers music...the stale smell of beer, moisture, 'cigarettes' all-mixed in the basement..😏🤘

To be straight up Southern, u need to fry up some chicken (the Southern way. No air frying) & put some Texas Pete hot sauce. A side of collard greens, homemade Mac and cheese & some buttermilk biscuits or my booger biscuits. Booger biscuits may sound bad, but a full course of my homemade food flew from North Carolina to Texas with my son who is a soldier in the US Army. He carried ALOT of food to his girlfriend and her mama & grandmother. He said when he woke up from being jet lag & all the food was gone. Those 3 women ate a whole batch of my booger biscuits 15-18 biscuits plus an entree and 2 sides & blueberry cobbler. They called me to thank me & ask me for the recipe.

@@pamelascott5702 lol...I don't know what collard greens are, and our biscuits are sweet and you dunk them in your tea.
@pamelascott5702
@pamelascott5702 5 лет назад
Patrol Gaming our biscuits are fluffy & soft(if made correctly, lol). But, I have made sweet potato biscuits- I think u guys may call them yams. But, my booger biscuits are made with sour cream and sharp cheddar cheese add to the biscuits flour. Collards are a green leafy vegetable that are cooked a side meat like ham hocks, fresh sausage or fat back. If you get a chance or ever find an American Southern type restaurant let me know if y’all enjoy it. I have a friend in Liverpool & his mum sent me what they call biscuits. I think it is the same as what you speak of. We call those cookies. But of course we have a HUGE variety of cookies. If you know or have heard of Popeye’s chicken or Kentucky Fried Chicken you have seen what I mean by a biscuit. A guy who was born in my hometown went on American Idol which is filmed in California (on the other side of the pond) & one of the things they picked at him about was when he mentioned that he was having a great time but he was missing home bc he missed the sweet iced tea and biscuits. Lol. My son randomly called me one day after he was stationed in Texas complaining that he was about to die bc Texas didn’t have any sweet tea and definitely no decent biscuits. What’s the name of that song, “Don’t Know What You Got ( til it’s gone) by Cinderella.
@matthewdrake4385
@matthewdrake4385 5 лет назад
Patrol, in the southern part of the United States, iced tea with sugar is a favorite. And the American version of biscuits are not usually sweet, but can go with just about anything for about every meal. Moreso popular with dinners of chicken, pork or ham along with rice, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes. Some places call it soul food, country cooking or comfort food, because it makes you feel comfortable and fill your soul, as well as your stomach.

Is there a live version? Hell yeah there is ... abou 25 minutes worth! Other suggestions: "One Way Out," "Ramblin Man," "Jessica," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." All awesome live.

@@PatrolNation Allman Brothers 'Live at the Fillmore East' album still is one of the 'must haves' for any collector. That one concert lasted until early morning the next day and set the precedent for extended jam concerts in the future. There are tons of informative videos if you fancy looking into their backstory, just incredible, I think you'd enjoy it.

Thanks for bringing back the memories of my younger days. Nothing like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Marshall Tucker to get a taste of Southern Rock/Blues. Another band that may have not had the same popularity but had a good sound, was Black Oak Arkansas, especially when they sang with the amazing Ruby Starr. Unfortunately she left us way too early.

If there was only one band I could listen to, it would invariable be the Allman Brothers Band, they have been my favorite band for going on 50 years now, and they will be played as I leave this world along with Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic". So much passion and soul, and to think Gregg was in his early 20'S when he first laid down the vocals to "Whipping Post", other worldly.

The pioneers of southern rock. If you have ever heard a song by them it would have to be "Ramblin man"...and that would be a good recommendation as well!
