Opo the crazy dolphin. A major NZ tourist attraction when rugby, racing & beer were the national pastimes and TV was a thing of the future. Opo's popularity was probably futher enhanced because the pubs closed at 6pm & were not open on Sundays. Today Opo would be escribed as a happy dolphin!
If this was in the USA they would have captured the dolphin and charged admission to a crap aquarium. Props to the New Zealanders for letting Opo interact on his/ her terms. Also gotta love the kid whose ball Opo was bouncing around looks pissed while everyone else cheers.
I love my country... right now near me we have a baby Orca that got himself into trouble we are looking after him.. we are hoping he gets with his pod... the baby Orca is named Toa.❤️🇳🇿
I'm Opo the friendy dolphin - The kids think I'm I - T - When l give them all a fishy back ride And a game of ball in the swishy tide I'm one fish that'll never get fried And served in batter for tea And I live at Opononi by the sea - 0 - po 0 - po 0 - po Everybody loves him at Opononi Bay He's such fun for old and young They all want him to stay He's Opo the friendy dolphin He's friendly as can be If you should want to learn to swim
omg, I was born in 2010!! Omggggg My mom was born in 1972! My great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great,GREATTTT!!! Grandmother was born in 1788 and she met opo! My mom told me! and i never knew this! Omg! i cant believe my family met opo!
Its so unfortunate that every dolphin that adopts humans as its pod, eventualy dies from human interaction. Opo supposedly died from fisherman fishing with gelignite (its like fishing with dynamite)
does anyone notice the rampant gay sexual innuendo ...the gay dolphin , gay island, he was roused by the ball.......true gentleman that likes to get his deck swabbed? wtf i know its the 50's but that cant be coincidence lol
It's not gay sexual innuendo. New Zealand's is a different culture with words sometimes having different meanings than they might have in other countries. More to the point, for those of us who grew up during the '50's, gay was a term used for lively, fun, etc. The term gay for homosexual men came into common use a little later. I can remember frequently hearing the term gay the way it is used in this video, referring to a fun time or fun party, etc. One doesn't hear it used that way here in the U.S. so much anymore, surely because of the connection the word has to homosexuality.
