those "off camera" moments that he illustrated show that he has an actual understanding of Dragon Ball beyond what the writers of the show and some fans think it is.
For real. I found some of his slice of life panels on pinterest and I was wondering if they were from Toriyama. I legit think he can replicate old Toriyama better than Toriyama himself during his late career
Fenyo truly is. blessing for this franchise, whether it's his fan art or his promotional work for the series. Goodness, he's so good. It's incredible how adaptable he is in replicating each distinctive era of Dragon Ball and even finds ways to mash them together. Absolutely love this man. You did a great job of covering all of those strengths of his. Also, how did that manga thing you were entering in turn out?
Yeah I didn't really know that he could channel Yamamuro's or Shintani's style so well until I was browsing through his catalogue of work for this video. Quite outstanding indeed! And from my knowledge they are still marking the applications for the contest so I'm guessing it might be a month or so until I get the results :)
@@forgottenrelics1197 I'll bet. I respect you for putting in the effort for it though. I'll be reminding of myself of time consuming projects once I start working on this animation I have planned out
This man deserves to draw the Dragon Ball Super manga. I wish there could be a petition or something. Not that I hate Toyotarou, I just think Fenyo is leagues better. It would ACTUALLY feel like a direct continuation of the Dragon Ball manga rather than looking like a fanmanga.
Yeah I have nothing against Toyotaro and his style but personally I believe that when you are working officially on the manga and continuing the story you should aim to be as accurate to the author's art style as possible. And as you said it would feel much more like a direct continuation. But honestly though Nakatsuru would be my number one pick to have drawn the manga, he has the most experience and has filled that role before with Toriyama's other series such as Dr Slump and Cashman. But regardless I still understand Toriyamas decision in choosing someone from the younger generation to carry Dragon Ball forward
To be fair, the manga has resembled Toriyama's style more in recent chapters. And it has definitely not looked like a "fan" manga since the Moro arc. But I don't think it's reasonable to expect that the manga be kept in the exact same art style for the rest of time anyway. Toyotaro has shown great improvement, plus he has worked on the story. He doesn't deserve to lose his job.
Ever since I discovered Fenyo’s RU-vid channel I’ve been inspired by his art in DB legends and other promo art. Thank you for making this video, I hope to see a video on the art style of dragon ball legends and if you know who does the colouring for the promo art please share😊
Awesome to hear and no problem dude! Honestly I really want to find out who is colouring the legends art as well haha so I definitely will mention his name if I ever find out :)
Fenyo has a special kind of talent to not only reproduce Toriyama's exact art style, but also replicate Yamamuro's work and blend his old are with his new one so perfectly.
Yo I'd be cool if you reviewed the dragon ball mobile game card arts, such as Dokkan, Legends, and that one jp only browser game that ended recently. Specifically I'd like to know your opinion on dokkan's aura effects and such.
I too love the different stylistic takes on dragon ball art. I really loved Yuki Hayashi's take on db art in Dbs Broly . During gogeta blue section of the fight . Man I loved it.
Yeah man couldn't agree more, absolutely love that part especially where he lifts his arms out and yells. Its such a dynamic shot filled with insane expression. Really wish I could watch it again in cinemas
@@forgottenrelics1197 It was soooooooooooooooo goooooooood. If any dragon ball movie or series comes back, I want to see more of him and his style. But I think he is a freelance animator so mostly he might appear in movies if he ever came back. (I might be wrong). That gogeta section of his was sooo beautiful man . Really modern dragon ball art can develop sooo much.
oh yeah, speaking of Fenyo, I actually follow him on Instagram and Twitter. His art style is so Toriyama and Z Esk. That's what's interesting about his approach. I really wish I could become a dragon ball or just just like him. Well I really need to practice drawing and coming up with my own uniqu Art-Style and combining it with Dragon Ball style.
I think Fenyo is pretty good and is on par with Toriyama, probably in 2nd place (making Toyotaro be in 3rd place). The only issue I have with Fenyo's style is how the ears stick out like a sore thumb. Other than that, he's a good contender.
@@6thman34 Young jijii would be tied with either Fenyo or Toyotaro. His style is really on point with Toriyama's angular style in the Buu Arc, which is what I like. But at the same time, Fenyo replicating nearly all of Toriyama's roundness and angularness of the cheekbone is impressive. I like Toyotaro's spin on DB characters and how soft the lineart is. But maybe he should take his time with certain poses and panel layouts. So in my honest opinion, Young Jijii is pretty much tied with Fenyo more than he is with Toyotaro.
@@ogge9304 I'm not implying that the ears are bad. It's just that when I look at Fenyo's drawing, the ears are the first thing that I notice. In other words, they're pretty notable. And I can as well see how they're similar to Toriyama's ears.
Man, if only Toriyama decided to replace Toyotaro with Fenyo, that along with choosing Shintani, would be the best thing that could happen to Dragon Ball.
Fenyo is truly awe inspiring in everything he does. I learnt so much about Dragonball art its from this video and the comment section. Like Fenyo has a RU-vid channel
Oh yeah, the video i suggested, it would be awesome if you did a video on the best key frames in all of Dragon Ball to the specials and the movies. keep up the great work bro
if you ever review art from Dragon Ball Legends, I wanna hear your thoughts on Golden Frieza, Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black, and the PUR Final Form Cooler
This video is amazing keep up the amazing work I've been drawing 4 awhile and I like 2 think im good but your videos show me time and time again i can get better and for that i thank you
I’ve been absolutely admiring Fenyo for so long now on Instagram, and I just saw this video in my recommended. And it really brings me joy seeing that he’s getting the recognition he deserves. Badass artist.
Forgotten relics I am an old subscriber few months ago I found this channel called fenyo art I watched one of his videos and was fascinated me the most is how he does the sketch its amazing I think he can literally draw anything from just simple shapes.
Awesome to hear from you! And yeah a lot can be learned from his tutorials, the element of breaking characters down into shapes is a great way to draw from imagination and is one skill I have been trying to learn :)
Excellent video as per usually, I've been binging your other DB artist reviews too. It's been great watching them during covid especially since I've got more free time to draw. Also who do think is the most underated offical Dragonball artist?
I think Nakatsuru is slept on by many newer fans, especially when it comes to his skill in drawing manga and replicating Toriyama's style such as in Dr Slump Returns which I doubt many fans have even heard of haha. And glad to hear that some of my older videos have provided some entertainment during the lockdown
When i got to know the fenyo art at 1st i got fooled thinking it was an original toryama art it is amazing on how he captured the essence of the characters!
Man, Dragonball, specifically Toriyama's art style has always been a major influence on me. This video has opened my eyes to small details in my art that I've never even thought about before. Great video!
IMO I think Fenyo_n should replace Toyotaro as the artist for Dragonball Super. If he could have done THIS style for SUper then it would have been a truly great series. Even if the stories are garbage and direction. Toyotaro's muddled panels often have given me major headaches. Especially his OVER use of Grey tones. When I read the Black Arc the absolute horror of greytones used gave me a migraine. 40 odd-pages of it. And the way he CRAMS panels INTO a single page is too much. It makes it feel very claustrophobic. The expressions on his characters are awful, to downright bad. And the fact that he clearly does it digitally makes it worse, as he seems to just copy and paste one body and manipualtes the head. As I had noticed in a scene with Supreme Kai, Beerus and I think Vegeta? It just looked like the same body with a different head. The clothes and hair are too static, with his clothes being legit squares and rectanges, and the hair he draws being VERY thin and sharp. The extreme angular artstyle is also very... distracting to look at. If Fenyo_n wasn't a freelance artist.. I wish he would have been chosen. Rather than Toyotaro. YoungJiji I can see why he isn't even on the list, since he hasn';t shown to be a dynamic artist for Dragonball with his own fan-works just traced and recycles scenes throughout the original run.
I will never understand why Toriyama didn’t chose him. Don’t get me wrong, I like some of Toyotaro’s ideas, but Fenyo definitely seems worthy of being Toriyama’s successor.
There's a post on insta where he did a manga page for goku showing the Super Saiyan forms to Oob, check that out and my god would he be good at doing the dbs manga.
