Moe Norman was quite a character and I always get a new perspective on him when I rewatch this now historic . VHS recording of his clinic that day at Larter's At St Andrews GC. in beautiful scenic Manitoba's Interlake. VHS camcorders had just come out and this was my first attempt at anything like this. What a day that was. Hope everyone enjoys it for what it is and what it is worth.

Moe gave me a lesson in Daytona Beach in 1970. No half hour for $50.00. Just grabbed my hand and squeezed till it hurt. "Hold on like that at the top." Then he walked away. Probably look 5 seconds and then he walked away. Best lesson I ever had but my hand hurt for 2 weeks.

Teacher said now you see and feel the difference I said yeah but that's not what amazed me was not how the club flew outta my hands it was the fact I blasted the ball with no effort and it went straight in the fairway and the power still took the club from me 😂 thank you moe

Moe didn't miss a fairway for 6 years....he once used the same tee for 4 years. Moe played a lot with George Knudsen (incredible iron player, 8 PGA wins) and they'd bet on EVERYTHING. $$. One bet was $100. for every pin hit. In one round, Moe hit 6 pins. For fun, in tournaments, Moe would occasionally tee off with a wedge and hit into the green with his driver, for par or birdie. Lee Trevino said it best....'somebody should have taken Moe under his wing, he would have cleaned up on the tour' He wasn't a country club boy, no one helped him, they even chastised him. Golf lost something very special. He returned home. 41 course records, 3@59, 4@61. Hole-in-ones became boring, he lost count.

At 7:03 Moe says he keeps his "hands out of it". For his next shot at 7:27 you can see that most of his swing is just hands. If you use the "," and "." you can move backwards and forwards frame by frame and you can clearly see that most of his swing is perfectly timed hands. His hands start moving when the arms are right before the ball which creates all the speed. The closer your arms are to the ball when you start moving your hands the more accurate and harder you will hit the ball, which is proper coordination. The rest of the movement is only to get aligned to the target and that is what Moe does so well, primarily by reducing rotation by a wide stance and being short and not by keeping is "hands out of it". Don't listen to what golfers say about their swing, watch what they do.

Moe was and probably always will be the best ball striker ever. Not to mention the best aim with his shots. His effortless attitude helped me to realize the harder you try to hit the ball, the harder it is to hit the ball. Swing as if you’re making a chip shot and you’ll likely hit it better and just as long as when you give it your all. Golf isn’t easy but it’s easier when you take it easy. Be mo’ like Moe.

To me he has one consistent winning style amoung many styles. It's not an exact science. He's a bit full of himself, "That's why I'm one of the best strikers of the ball" , he's got one great message though "same every time" absolute consistency. 👏
@tomkowalsky
@tomkowalsky 8 месяцев назад
Actually, he said the best striker of the ball that’s ever lived. But he’s just repeating what Nicolas Faldo, Garry player and many other said. He never made that up himself. That’s what they said about him. I believe he’s so full of himself because Golf is the only opportunity he has to feel the feeling of greatness. Clearly, in every day life he’s an oddball living in his car and not fitting in. It’s not unusual for people to find the one thing that they are better than anyone else in the world and experience that feeling of greatness. Whatever you wanna call it it’s valid and he’s earned it and that’s all that matters.

Have any of you noticed Moo's foot position starts open and then becomes closed towards the end of his practice round?
@tomkowalsky
@tomkowalsky Год назад
I did notice that , but isn’t he actually going from short Clubs to longer Clubs ? So with the wedge 9 8 and seven iron I’m usually a little more open. But as I get to the longer Clubs , I usually close my stance a bit to try and square up the blade. Does that make any sense?

This man knows what he is doing Don't listen to him when he says anything Try and do what he shows you He is not going to give away his actions and performance The way to learn the Moe Norman swing. Is just watch and watch and watch until you snap what he is doing And then you will understand why he hit the ball with so much ease He is a wonderful joker most amazing man Just watch watch watch avetuly you will see what this man does When I snapped it .I hit my driver between 60 and 80 yards thither and as straight as a whistle. I am 67 years old and has never enjoyed my gholf so much It's just amazing Thank you very much Moe Norman R I P

First and foremost The first thing Mow does he retypes his grip about 4 to 5 inches down the shaft Nobody mentions that Secondly look at mow norman hands it never ever passed his belly button nomatter what club he used The way Mow explains the way he plays is just talking bullshit Just take your tv remote remote put it on supper slow Mow Then you will see Mow He is a fantastic guy. Full of jokes He just corrected himself to many moving part What a joker But I still love the man had a lot off humor Fantastic bal striker Know go take a club and do what Mow does And I promise you that you will strike the ball better than you ever dit Mow doesn't think shortest back swing ever Practice and you will see how your performance will change Never ever let your hands pass your belly button The power band is only coming into place when it passes the belly button Look at a snooker player his pull back Is always the same Never changes Ist only the speed that counts So enjoy I promise you that you will understand and start playing easy golf What ever Mow tells you what he is doing look carefully he doesn't do what he says

Can you confirm that those yardages were what Moe said they were?
@tomkowalsky
@tomkowalsky 4 года назад
I can. And each club had a corresponding group of balls in the fairway. The ball kids went out and picked up the wedge pile then the nine iron pile then the five iron pile then the three wood pile. You get the picture.

Very nice to hear testimonies like this. I love his idea of keeping within yourself and swinging gentle and forgetting about distance....yet even at that age was getting nice yardages. Moe Norman has shown that simply hitting balls can be an art I just love watching that unorthodox beast of a swing that shuts up all conventional theory. Love his personality aswell. Thanks for sharing this.
