Moe Norman was quite a character and I always get a new perspective on him when I rewatch this now historic . VHS recording of his clinic that day at Larter's At St Andrews GC. in beautiful scenic Manitoba's Interlake. VHS camcorders had just come out and this was my first attempt at anything like this. What a day that was. Hope everyone enjoys it for what it is and what it is worth.

Moe gave me a lesson in Daytona Beach in 1970. No half hour for $50.00. Just grabbed my hand and squeezed till it hurt. "Hold on like that at the top." Then he walked away. Probably look 5 seconds and then he walked away. Best lesson I ever had but my hand hurt for 2 weeks.

Moe was and probably always will be the best ball striker ever. Not to mention the best aim with his shots. His effortless attitude helped me to realize the harder you try to hit the ball, the harder it is to hit the ball. Swing as if you’re making a chip shot and you’ll likely hit it better and just as long as when you give it your all. Golf isn’t easy but it’s easier when you take it easy. Be mo’ like Moe.

What incredibly wise words and observations. I could not agree more. When I try to focus and hit it good I never do. The nonchalant I don’t really care but I do attitude is what really works. No matter how easy I swing the ball still goes. Thank you for watching and for such inspiring comments.

Teacher said now you see and feel the difference I said yeah but that's not what amazed me was not how the club flew outta my hands it was the fact I blasted the ball with no effort and it went straight in the fairway and the power still took the club from me 😂 thank you moe

To me he has one consistent winning style amoung many styles. It's not an exact science. He's a bit full of himself, "That's why I'm one of the best strikers of the ball" , he's got one great message though "same every time" absolute consistency. 👏
@tomkowalsky
@tomkowalsky 5 месяцев назад
Actually, he said the best striker of the ball that’s ever lived. But he’s just repeating what Nicolas Faldo, Garry player and many other said. He never made that up himself. That’s what they said about him. I believe he’s so full of himself because Golf is the only opportunity he has to feel the feeling of greatness. Clearly, in every day life he’s an oddball living in his car and not fitting in. It’s not unusual for people to find the one thing that they are better than anyone else in the world and experience that feeling of greatness. Whatever you wanna call it it’s valid and he’s earned it and that’s all that matters.
@paultweedley2026
@paultweedley2026 5 месяцев назад
@@tomkowalsky yea agree, he did pass away a good while ago. It's bound to be good for your ego if the eletes where saying "best stricker of the ball" and "he knew he would always hit it straight " , although I wonder why he never won a major and acctually never played in most of them? Could it be that deep down he himself believed he was good but not quite good enough to be at the very very top of the game?

Moe didn't miss a fairway for 6 years....he once used the same tee for 4 years. Moe played a lot with George Knudsen (incredible iron player, 8 PGA wins) and they'd bet on EVERYTHING. $$. One bet was $100. for every pin hit. In one round, Moe hit 6 pins. For fun, in tournaments, Moe would occasionally tee off with a wedge and hit into the green with his driver, for par or birdie. Lee Trevino said it best....'somebody should have taken Moe under his wing, he would have cleaned up on the tour' He wasn't a country club boy, no one helped him, they even chastised him. Golf lost something very special. He returned home. 41 course records, 3@59, 4@61. Hole-in-ones became boring, he lost count.

Have any of you noticed Moo's foot position starts open and then becomes closed towards the end of his practice round?
@tomkowalsky

I did notice that , but isn’t he actually going from short Clubs to longer Clubs ? So with the wedge 9 8 and seven iron I’m usually a little more open. But as I get to the longer Clubs , I usually close my stance a bit to try and square up the blade. Does that make any sense?

This observation has come up before. There is really very little point in showing the ball flight when the ball goes exactly the same every time and perfectly straight. You could literally walk out into the field and throw a hula hoop around his balls. There’s nothing to be learned by watching the golf ball fly into the same path and landing the same spot every time. The lesson is in watching the man swing the club. Watching his Takeaway. Watching his position at the top. Watching his finish. Watching his balance. You learn how to swing the club by watching the person with the perfect swing swing the club. Not watching where this ball goes as soon as he hits it and never seeing him finish. I mean seriously what is there to be learned by watching the ball travel 195 yards in the straight line every time and land almost in the exact same spot? You want to see the person who hit it and learn how they did it.

@tomkowalsky didn't say show every shot. I know the purpose of a Moe vid. But we don't even see once if it's where it is. And it would be fun to see when he intentionally hooks and slices. All of that can be shown while still mainly showing and focusing his swing.
