WE visit Fred's modest grave in Chatsworth, San Fernando Valley. Not a long distance from him, we find the same simple grave of Ginger Rogers. They had a few dried flowers, but we brought fresh ones. We wonder if ? somebody take care now of their graves...
The night Fred died, I cried. I was a dancer and he was my idol. That night I dreamt he danced with me. Perhaps he did, who knows where we go and with whom, when we dream? He was SENSATIONAL !
Back when the actors and actresses on screen had real talent , charisma and star power (basically the opposite of today). The true Golden Age of Hollywood.
How wonderful to see this now so many stars so many memories - my favourite all time dancer Mr Fred Astaire, my mother and grandmother introduced me to him in my youth and I’ve never looked back, I watch all his film and have all of them on dvd to watch at my leisure - absolutely amazing talent and there will never ever be another like him
They dont make'm like this any more!. Astaire was a dazzling genius, raising popular dance to an art form accompanied by wonderful songs from great American Song Book. I simply love David Niven's witty introduction.
Grace, Beauty, Sense of Humor. Love , Passion and Perfection in every move , every single gesture-This is Fred Astaire's Magic! Thank you so much for sharing those fantastic moments of his Virtuosity!!!!
Well said Ladies. I wish I had said it myself. I can feel his magic because of the virtuosity of your words. As a writer, thank-you for this exquisite comment.
@@markdaniels2092 Wow! How absolutely extraordinary of You- A Writer to say something so wonderful to us! You Sir Made our day!!!!We meant every word ! Fred Astair 's art is a rare , unique , wonderful gift to to us from Universe!!!
The many people who adored this dancing Moaning Minnie are just as heartfelt as I am. I love Fred. Ever since I was a girl in the 90s, I watched his feet, and I tried copying his moves. Fred, you are my favorite.❤
In later years I read that Fred said that Ginger "really sold their films"...Ginger was more than just a dancer...she was a terrific.. academy award winning actress( for "Kitty Foyle" immediately after their last collaboration of 1939).
INCREDIBLE. BEYOND BELIEF. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! FRED ASTAIRE . THE MASTER... THE KING......THE LEGEND..... THE GREATEST HOLLYWOOD DANCER ENTERTAINER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. THIS SALUTE IS SHEER JOY.
I simply adore that there's always going to be a desire for the classic arts of Dance and music. I am one! I adore the time Long passed😢l am 72 And grew up on watching these ahhh-some movies!!. THANK You so much ❤🎉😊
Fred Astaire was one of Hollywood's greatest artists, the man Porter and Berlin .. Gershwin..Mercer.. etc. wrote their songs for and the man everyone studied to learn how to dance....one of a kind you will never see the likes of him again....
I am very proud to make the first comment. I just finished my book, describing my 47 years in totalitarian country, called Soviet Union and then teaching for 30 years in the United States. Being a Ukrainian/American scientist, I continued my career in the USA achieving status of full professor and department chair of American university. Being a PhD in Biology, nevertheless, I have managed dancing over 40 years as an amateur dancer, touring with a dance team many countries in Europe and Asia. At Kent state university I was teaching dsnce class in addition to my other four mandatory classes. I could resume my amateur dancing after Ukraine will win the war against Russian invasion. Fred Astaire was and still is my inspiration - an incredible artist.
WOW! THEY COULD DANCE UP A STORM! FRED ASTRE, ELONORE POWER, GINGER ROGERS AND TO MY SUPPRISE JOAN CRAWFORD ♥️ BEAUTIFUL DANCING CELEBRITIES 💃 ♥️ ❤️ 😍 🎶 😀 💃 ♥️ 🎉LIKE SWANS, ALMOST FLYING THROUGH THROUGH THE AIR!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I think Begin the Beguine is truly outrageous. Eleanor Powell was the Queen of tap. She died of cancer one year later. Such a tragedy. She was so philosophical as well.
The Stanford Theatre in Palo Alto, owned and operated by the Packard Foundation, is continuing its tribute to Astaire with double bills each weekend through April 14, 2024. The Foundation has played a major role in film preservation and offers the public the opportunity to see the best of the Golden Age of Cinema films on the screen in its beautifully restored theatre, where, by coincidence, I was last night. $5 for seniors ($7 others) for 2 films!
I can’t get enough of Fred Astaire. In reality he was a perfectionist who practiced forever. And the end result: he makes it look so easy. He is mythic indeed
I grew up with him as my idol of grace elegance, and something that is completely removed from our wall today it’s nothing but trash and garbage. I always wanted to be Fred Astaire and I’m one I didn’t want to be his partner I wanted to be Fred Astaire I dance in my room to a Victrola I’m 76 today and I had a beautiful voice which I lost after 911 I sang in the master corset Philharmonic. He was my elegant idol of wearing the best the smartestand his stance in his approaches that he was a prince princess, and treated women as elegant as gorgeous and elegant
Ginger said she had an unbreakable engagement in New Orleans. In her absence Eleanor Powell paid Fred a brief but memorable tribute, and the secret ingredient of his dancing- Hermes Pan- was also on hand.
Once a prestigious award, now is been given to people who have done nothing for the movies like Steve Martin, George Clooney, Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Nicole Kidman, in stead of international symbols of the cinema like Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, Kevin Costner ...
Surprised they left out the dances with Rita Hayward. Just saw them again and they equal or are somewhat better than almost any of the other dance partners. She is lighting fast i The Girl Gets Rich as well as a routine that escapes me now. However, they were all fantastic.... check out those routines.
I'm an old dancer and Fred Astaire was a tiny skinny guy with big hands who got the women because he could dance and that's all. I could stand him in some of his dance routines but after a while, he was a bit stale and wasn't as perfect as most portrayed him.
@@Farmergirl7 if she had a previous engagement, it could have been arranged that she at least could make a short film giving thanks to Astaire for their years of collaboration, without showing her head to toe, so no, I don’t buy your theory.
@@mogomarkas3187 at her age maybe that was impossible due to medical conditions. Maybe dementia? Something she or her family don’t want known. Why think badly of her?
Life was so different then more class hard to even have class in white house now we no who imagine young people looking up to that just saying . 5:42 5:43
